Why does the conversation around Claressa Shields always turn into comments about her looks?

I’ve been thinking about this lately, especially after seeing all the discourse around the Papoose/Remy situation.

Unfortunately, I still use Facebook because of family and friends abroad so I am often exposed to entertainment news and so on.

Whether you like Claressa or not isn’t really the point here.

What stands out to me is how quickly things shift into attacking her appearance. Every post seems to include people calling her “manly,” saying she looks like a man, questioning why any man would want her, or making jokes about how she looks. It’s like her accomplishments get completely overshadowed just so people can focus on her appearance.

This is a woman with multiple undisputed titles and an Olympic gold medal. One of the greatest boxers of all time. And yet, her achievements are often treated like an afterthought compared to the same recycled jokes.
What surprises me even more is how often this comes from other Black women.

We’ve had so many conversations about the masculinization of Black women, especially darker-skinned women and women with athletic builds. We talk about unrealistic beauty standards all the time. But when it comes to Claressa, those same stereotypes suddenly become acceptable to repeat.

You don’t have to like her personality. You don’t have to agree with everything she says. But why is her appearance always the first thing people go to?
I really think this is bigger than just her. The comment sections under almost anything involving her make that pretty clear.
Am I the only one who finds that worth questioning?

I can’t believe this is happening right in front of our eyes

Long time lurker here without any words to express the horror I feel for this…
It feels like we’re watching history repeat itself over and over AND over again.
I remember the case of Queen Opp and Chelle. We literally watched abuse unfold online, and to this day that woman is still free. Chelle was a grown woman with obvious disabilities.
Now we’re watching Jr., an innocent child who never asked to be born into this situation.
Every livestream, every clip, every incident is happening in public. Thousands of people have seen it. Whether it’s concerns about neglect, suspected drug use, unsafe environments, or treating him more like content than a child, people have been speaking up for a long time.
The world is scary as hell.
I genuinely don’t understand how it can feel like nothing meaningful is happening. Are the people responsible for protecting vulnerable children aware of everything that’s been documented? Are they building a case? Are they waiting for more evidence? I honestly don’t know.
What I do know is that I hope we don’t end up looking back one day saying, “The signs were there all along.”
This little boy deserves better man…

Which one of these non-main character death hit you the hardest?

• Missandei – beheaded before Daenerys’ eyes
• Jacaerys – brought down by arrows over the Gullet
• Laena – chose dragonfire on her own terms
• Tommen – stepped off the Red Keep.

Yeah they weren’t like the main protagonists, but I think for sure all four left a lasting impact.

For me, it was Tommen. I knew it was probably inevitable, but I didn’t expect it to happen in that episode!! There was already so much chaos that I thought he’d survive. The way he silently walked to the window after removing his crown and then freaking proceeded to jump off made it so much more heartbreaking.

’Knowledge is Power’ still makes me cringe and I gotta ask if yall felt it too

Ok so I am an 80s baby and I grew up on Fresh Prince. I just rewatched the episode where Will and Carlton find out Hilary dropped out and use it to blackmail her. Yall remember that one. They got her doing all this stuff around the house and then they parade her at the dinner table till she breaks and tells Phil and Viv herself.

I am not saying Hilary was innocent cuz she did snitch first to get the car. But watching it now as a woman, and honestly even back when it first aired, the whole thing felt heavy. It was not just a prank. It was two dudes holding a secret over their sister and making her dance for them in her own house. The humiliation part hit me in a gendered way fr. Like the joke was her shame.

Like I said, I am an 80s baby so I know we laughed at a lot that would not fly today. I did laugh then too. But I also remember feeling weird in my stomach then, and I feel it now. It is not about being sensitive in 2026. It is about seeing the pattern.
Because it reminded me of that other episode, ’Best Laid Plans’, where Will fakes a whole wedding just to get Monique to sleep with him. Again the punchline is him tryna get around a womans no. And we were supposed to root for him till the lesson at the end.

Maybe I am tripping but those two episodes sit different for me than the usual Will vs Carlton stuff. They feel less like comedy and more like watching somebody get cornered.
Anybody else feel that? Did yall laugh it off back in the day and now you see it different? Or am I reading too much into a 90s sitcom?
Would love to hear how other people especially women who watched that Hilary scene. I don’t think I am the only one. Or am I?

What happens if someone gets seriously injured, or worse, dies?

It's not far-fetched to think someone could get seriously hurt on Baddies, like hitting their head on concrete or breaking their back. That fight with Lex and Camilla where Camilla’s back was on the poles was really jarring to watch. One wrong move and that's a broken spine. Does Zeus even have a plan if someone dies?
Why do these girls seem to care so little about each other's safety?
I used to watch Baddies because it was entertaining, but coming here and seeing clips of fights that are more gruesome and have gotten worse over the seasons is honestly scary.

Audiobook casting call — which GoT voice are you hiring?

Mine: I'd take Charles Dance reading Dune. That "A Lannister always pays his debts" timbre doing the Baron Harkonnen lines? Perfect.
Who's your narrator and what's the book?
And also, RIP Max von Sydow, I included him as a tribute because his voice was also perfect for a narrator.

What makes people comfortable turning their relationship into content?

I know the influencer answer is "for fame and money," but that doesn't fully explain it for me.
When did it become normal to direct your own intimacy? You literally set up a tripod, stage a kiss or a cute moment, then review the take like you're an actor.
I see this constantly on TikTok and Instagram, and not just from big creators. Is the psychology mostly about external validation, or habit, or social pressure, or do people just stop noticing the camera after a while?
Genuinely curious, no judgment.

Edit: I'm not doubting the influencer motive, I'm more curious if there's an actual psychological concept behind it.
Like, is there a term for when documenting your life becomes the default way of experiencing it, so redoing a kiss for better lighting stops feeling weird? Or is this too new for psychology to have named it?
