What strategies have actually helped you stay consistent on these meds because I’m struggling...

I was reading about the discontinuation rates and they are honestly a little sobering. But there are clearly people who do stay on these medications long-term, and I'm trying to figure out what the difference is. Is it about finding a maintenance dose that's tolerable even if it means slower weight loss? Is it about having a really supportive doctor who helps with insurance appeals and side effect management? Is it just about having good coverage so cost isn't a constant stressor?

Struggling with blending sounds

I fear our reading curriculum has gotten too hard. My daughter just is not getting it yet. She's doing great remembering the letter sounds, and can say the word if I segment the sounds, but blending them together herself is another story. We are doing Logic of English Kindergarten. She's a little young for it but I thought she met the standards. She was doing so great until we started reading actual words.

Are there any curriculums that work on blending together sounds, or should I change gears and work on something else?

I'm not really pushing her super hard on, trying to just create a love of learning and routine.

Reading progress feels so slow

Any tips for helping my 1st grader jump from beginning reading stages to more advanced?

A little background…I know I shouldn’t compare but I just found out that my niece who is 2 months older than my daughter (attends a great public school) is reading chapter books. My daughter is still on Level 1 step readers and struggles. I’m just not sure how to help her make that jump from struggling to phonetically sound out every word (or guess based on pictures and context) to just recognizing words and reading more fluently. Because of the struggle she’s somewhat resistant to reading/writing practice. She loves nonfiction books mostly, especially about animals.

took the XTRA Muse out for a weekend and it was better than I expected

I finally got some time to mess around with the XTRA Muse this weekend and used it for a mix of walking clips, coffee shop shots, and some quick night street stuff.

A few quick thoughts after using it

Stabilization is probably the biggest thing I noticed. I am pretty bad at holding small cameras steady but most walking clips came out way smoother than my phone.

The size is also nice. I could throw it in a small bag and not think about it, which is kinda the whole point for me.

Shot some clips in X Log too and did a light grade in Resolve. Nothing crazy, just adjusted contrast, pulled back highlights a bit, and warmed up the skin tones. For a small camera it gave me more room than I expected.

Not perfect tho. The app took me a little bit to get used to and I still need to test more low light before having a strong opinion.

But overall I get why people like this type of camera now. It is just less friction than pulling out a bigger setup.

Anyone else here using Muse or Pocket 3 as a daily carry cam? Also heard the Muse 2 Pro might be coming out soon, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what it brings.

i spent past three months writing my literature review and had a meeting with my supervisor today...she literally y said that my review lacks depth. DEPTH. I just sat there listening to her feeling and feeling sad.

After coming home I started to vent to my friends that doing a research feels impossible now and the conversation turned into this weird research ai support group. it's funny how everyone has their own way for surviving the dissertation.

Like one of my friend is obsessed with perplexity for broad stuff, though we all agreed it answers with the terrifying confidence of someone who definitely hasn't read the full paper.

I told them how I dislike switching between 30 tabs and make notes, then someone suggested me Scira, the new update actually surprised me a little. being able to choose sources and watch the steps while it's working makes it feel less like blindly trusting a chatbot

after that i used scite and immediately discovered one paper one paper i was heavily relying on was getting destroyed by later citations genuinely sat there staring at my screen in disbelief.

We all agree that consensus has become a shortcut for when we physically cannot look at another 30-page pdf, and scispace is for those days when the academic jargon feels like a side quest we didn't sign up for.

overall i still think actual understanding matters way more than tools. but atleast now the mo suffering is slightly more organised

I still haven't figured out how to make my supervisor like me, i think that's one thi Al can't do..meeting her next tuesday. keep me in your prayers please.

In 2022, I was in the bariatric surgery workup. BMI 42, sleep apnea, hypertension, prediabetes. I was scheduled for gastric sleeve.

Then I heard about Wegovy. I canceled the surgery and tried the medication first.

3 years later:

Weight loss: 70lbs vs surgery (likely more)

A1C: 5.9 vs surgery (similar)

Side effects: Manageable nausea vs dumping syndrome (sounds worse)

Regrets: None

I'm not anti-surgery. It works for many people. But for me, the reversible option made more sense.

Hey everyone, my fridge suddenly stopped working and I need a replacement urgently. I’m in the GTA (Brampton area) and most stores I’ve checked are giving delivery timelines of a week or more, which is too long in this situation. For people in the Greater Toronto Area, what’s the typical delivery time you’ve experienced from local stores?

Also, how reliable are delivery timelines in general? I’ve heard experiences can vary depending on stock availability and scheduling, so I just want to know what’s realistic right now. Are same-day or next-day deliveries ever possible, or should I expect a few days at minimum? Would appreciate any recent experiences or suggestions.

P.S. I realized I forgot to include an important question, so I deleted my previous post and reposting it again.

This might be a weird question for this sub but do any guys here actually go to a local spot for facials or maybe some laser work? My wife has been bugging me to go with her because my skin is a mess from being outdoors so much but I really don't want to go somewhere that feels super girly or intimidating. Is there a spot in San Marcos that’s pretty chill and welcoming for guys who have no idea what they're doing with skincare?
