ZMF x PRS day

ZMF Bokeh Closed Stabilized with its buddy PRS S2 Semi-Hollow Reclaimed.

Interestingly they both produce woody warm vibes, so both together its just a good time.

Special Semi-Hollow vs Silver Sky

Hey yall! I’ve been looking at PRS options and would like to hear your take.

Current guitars:

- 2010 Gibson Les Paul Studio (Alpine White, gold hardware)

- Strandberg LE Fusion Titanium (I might sell this for one of the PRS options, still unsure)

What I’m considering:

- PRS Silver Sky Core (Tested the SE and wasn't into the pickup sound)

- PRS S2 Special Semi-Hollow (Tried the SE and liked it, the S2 balances better and lighter for some reason)

Budget isn't really an issue

Neck preference: I find that I wrap my thumb and rest it on the top of the neck a lot or play the e strings with it, so I much prefer rounded and shouldered necks, that's why the flatness of the Strandberg does not work for me.

Main music style (mostly clean):
Beach House, Clairo, Phoebe Bridgers, John Mayer, Mei Semones, Cigarettes After Sex, Mk.gee, Radiohead

Occasional overdriven stuff:
Foo Fighters/ Queens of the Stone Age (I think my Gibson covers this well)

In the ideal world is to get both lol. I'm sure the Silver Sky makes the most sense tone wise for the music style I like to play, but I love the aesthetic and versatility of the Special Semi-Hollow as well.

You may have seen my previous post about me contemplating on getting the S2 reclaimed wood due to availability in the long term. I know for the Silver Sky I'll never have to worry about that.

PRS S2 Special Semi-Hollow

This is basically my dream guitar. Especially the limited reclaimed edition, I am a sucker for natural wood.

This a truly stupid question, but do you think it will still be available to grab in a year or two in a reasonable used price?

Why am I not buying it now? One, it is sort of out of my price range (even used). Two, I am still learning, and I feel like having it in my hands feels like I don’t deserve it (yet). Three, I want it to be a reward to myself when I have considerably improved after consistent learning for a year.

My concern is that because its limited to 700 pcs, the used market might mark it up higher in a year or so. Im not exactly familiar with limited made guitars so let me know if I could be wrong. I’ve seen limited stuff priced cheaper used as well.

The only current guitar I have is a Les Paul Studio that my father gifted to me in 2010. Its a solid guitar though it is kinda heavy and the neck is not the most comfortable but I can still practice with it at the moment.

Contemplating on which Strandberg Model to get

My options are -

Plini signature edition (2018)
Boden Fusion (2020)
Boden OG (2026)

I am leaning towards the Fusion (for tone flexibility) or the Plini (mostly aesthetic as I love the wood grain on them)

My only worry is how much more improvement Strandberg has done over the years and will I be missing out on getting models from 5-6 years ago.

Budget is not exactly an issue but Im also eyeing the essential as I like the coral pink too lol.

Thinking of getting this as my first Strat

In picture is the American Professional II Smoke Guitar Center edition with chambered body, hardtail, and Seymour Duncan pick ups.

I have the Les Paul Studio 09 and was thinking of adding a Strat as my second electric guitar. Should I go for this or the standard Am Pro II?

Im into this mainly for aesthetic reasons, but also like the lightness and I dont really use the trem - but was wondering if its too much of a departure from Strat and if its safer to get a standard Strat.

Most efficient way to play?

Coming from acoustic guitars, I love that I can just grab it from the stand and immediately be able to practice. With electrics theres a little bit more faffing about with plugging it in the pedals/amp/turning knobs etc.

What have been your setups that make it super convenient to just grab and play?

I have messed with a few options:

  1. Katana 50w, plug straight into guitar and have the option to plug headphones on it.

  2. Tonex plug, possibly the most convenient option by being able to freely be in any room with headphones.

  3. Straight into an interface with DAW and plugins while im at my desk.

Would like to hear more from you guys if you have any quick setups that inspire you to play more.

What should be my next guitar purchase?

On my 16th birthday I was gifted the Gibson Les Paul Studio Alpine White (gold hardware) 2009, played for a while then stopped due to studies/work.

After a few years, jumped back into playing again and added a HSS Strat American Pro II that has some mods done to it (Guitar Center Sandblasted exclusive) so not exactly a pure strat.

Thinking what would be a cool third to diversy sound and feel. My main choices are:

  1. PRS S2 Special Semi-Hollow (mostly for the flexibility in tone)
  2. Gibson ES 355 (or any good hollow body guitar)
  3. Fender Mustang/Jaguar (just to have an offset, more compact guitar)

Leaning towards the first because I have this weird OCD where I'd rather have one of each guitar from a different brand lol. Let me know if you guys have any preference/ideas. Thank you!
