Finally Reading…Andersonville

This one has been on my “Want To Read” list for a long lonnnng time. Just started and preparing to devote most of my free time over the next week or two (or three) to getting this read (dad/husband/work so free time isn’t exactly abundant). I’m very interested in seeing how this lives up to its reputation and I’m optimistic it will be as good as I’ve been told. Enjoy your Tuesday night everyone.

Good Read (Quick/Interesting)

Very quick read covering the Secession Commissioners and Fire-Eaters leading up to 1860/1861. A topical examination of the question: was it really “States Rights” or solely slavery and racial ideology? Found at my local library for 1$, I can wholeheartedly say that it was money well spent. Enjoy your Saturday everyone.

Started Last Night…Hooked (The Demon of Unrest by Erik Larson)

You can’t go wrong with an Erik Larson book…but his writing on the buildup to Fort Sumter is incredible. I’m only about ~75 pages in and I’m hooked. Larson (IMHO) is one of the most engaging historical authors and it’s great to see him working on Civil War research.

It’s Fantastic…Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

I’m about 80% done…no spoilers, but this is a phenomenal book. I loved Recursion so I decided to jump into this one and I haven’t been able to put it down. Highly recommend for anyone into scifi or alternative realities. Very much looking forward to seeing how this ends

Just Started…Wow (Short Stay in Hell, by Steven Peck)

It’s only 104 pages so I’ll have it done by tonight…but just like the title says: wow.

I’m about 40 pages in…and this is honestly one of the most terrifying yet cathartic reads I’ve come across in quite some time. I’m on vacation with my wife and kiddo at the beach, and it’s been raining all day so we’re going to the movies tonight…but when I get back, nighttime pot of coffee and finishing.

I’m wondering how this ends…or if it ends (you’ll get it if you’ve read it). Also wondering if anyone here has read it (it’s not traditional fantasy…but certainly fantasy elements. Enjoy your evening everyone!

Great to finally see some recognition…

I read Between Two Fires about 6 years ago now…and then it was fairly “underground” or relatively unknown. It was hard to get it even on Amazon and I was super pumped to get a copy (this was the case for the physical version at least, unsure about the ebook). However it’s really cool to see that it’s blown up and is suggested by so many…and to see it featured all over. Gatekeeping books is the worst and it’s awesome to see Between Two Fires and Christopher Buehlman get so much recognition now. Needless to say: I wholeheartedly suggest this book

Finally Watched Alien: Earth…

So my wife and I never had Hulu until ~3 weeks ago…and then I remembered: “omg, I never watched Alien: Earth!!!”. Watched it over the last few days and I thought it was incredible on many levels. Very excited for Season 2…also very frustrated that I got on board a year after it came out

Happy Father’s Day!

Well my wife and son (almost 5) really outdid themselves…especially given the fact that my wife has told me repeatedly that she’s glad I love all things WH but she thinks it’s the weirdest thing she’s ever come across. Oh well…there’s hope for the son at least. Enjoy your Sunday everyone! (+happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there)

This was bad…real bad

Title sums it up…people were walking out of the theater. Several people boo’d. The ending was laughably dumb. Nothing made sense. Comically bad dialogue. Genuinely felt like an M. Night movie. If this wasn’t from Spielberg, I think would be universally known as a complete and utter disaster

Finished Fulgrim - What’s Next?

Just finished Fulgrim and I really enjoyed it (even if there were some parts that were a bit slow or needlessly long). I thought the body horror elements were really well done and the ending was a great insight into the expansion of the Horus Heresy…but now I’m at a bit of crossroad. My understanding is that I can sort of go anywhere from here and I think I’m gonna lean into the character/legion lore - specifically The First Heretic as I’m a Word Bearers guy. If anyone has any recommendations or insight, I’m all ears. Thanks and enjoy your evening

Gets Me Every Time…

Just finished another rewatch (probably in the double digits by now)…and man this ending really hits me every single time. As I’m getting older (41m) I realize (looking back) that we’re times where it actually was the last time all of us were in a room together or were enjoying a period of our lives before everything changed. Friends living all over the country now, many of us with families of our own…different careers and lives…all that stuff…but looking back on when we were young and the whole world was out there in front of us…this episode just captured it perfectly. Anyways, Community really is the best *Chang saying GAYYYY…LEGIT GAY*

Starting Tonight…

So I’ve read The Horus Heresy 1-4 consecutively…and as far as I understand it, after Fulgrim I can kind of jump around. Very excited to jump in as I’ve had it now for a week. Thinking about going down a Word Bearers path after this…we shall see. Enjoy your Wednesday night everyone

Just Arrived…

After reading Hours Hersey (1-4) consecutively…jumping into Fulgrim (as soon as I finish non 40k book I’m reading). Extremely excited to jump into this one…and then who knows where I’ll go in the HH world. Enjoy your Friday evening everyone

Just Started [The Good Nurse] by [Charles Graeber]

I am far from a “true crime” person but I work in healthcare (specifically GC and RM for a multi-hospital system) and this book always gets talked about…I’m only ~50 pages in and it’s very interesting (morbidly so). I think anyone who works in healthcare (clinical, admin, etc) would find this to be quite fascinating. Look up Charlie Cullen if you’re not familiar…
