A reminder to actually use your body care

I was going through my stuff today and found my Bom Dia Bright Cream tucked away with a bunch of other things I hadn’t looked at in a while. Obviously, I opened it thinking summer would be a good time to start using it again, but as soon as I smelled it I noticed it had that weird old lotion smell that products get when they’ve been sitting around for a long time.

I went through my emails to find the order confirmation and realized I bought it three years ago???? I didn’t even consciously decide to save it or use it sparingly, at least not for this long, and I wasn’t keeping it for some special occasion either. At some point it just ended up somewhere I didn’t see very often and once it was out of sight, I basically forgot I owned it. Three years passed without me even realizing how long I’d had it and now I’m throwing away something I bought because I wanted to use and enjoy it in the first place.

So I guess this is just a reminder to actually use your stuff! It’s really easy for me to keep reaching for the same few products and put off using newer stuff, but the money’s already gone and keeping something untouched doesn’t somehow preserve its value, especially when so many of these things eventually expire or go bad anyway. I’d much rather finish something and feel like I got my money’s worth than find it years later and realize I barely got to enjoy it at all!

Rejected for an event but they told me to apply for an internship

I applied for a McKinsey event just out of sheer interest (I’m an engineer and have no prior consulting experience) and got a call from a recruiter today where she told me that I wasn’t selected, but apparently they still liked my profile and would like me to apply for a regular internship instead. I was told that I would be moved straight into the interview process and I just need to apply before the deadline ends.

Is this something that they commonly do? Isn’t the bar for a job way higher than for these events? Has anyone actually ever gotten in via this route? Would appreciate any insights!

I just tried the Le Labo City Exclusives today!

My taste in fragrances has changed a lot this year and I’ve been really getting into soft, skin-like luxury scents (which unfortunately tend to be very expensive). Needless to say, I just came back from my local Le Labo boutique to smell the City Exclusives!

It was pretty busy but I still got to smell most of them and honestly I was surprised by how many I ended up liking.

My absolute favorite was the new Shiu 25! It has this really nice mix of pink pepper, orris and a smooth skin-like amber that just did it for me, so I ended up buying a sample to give it a proper wear.

A very close second was Vanille 44. It’s a gorgeous, elevated vanilla and I definitely see myself buying a bottle at some point. The only reason it wasn’t my number one is that it reminded me quite a bit of other fragrances already on my wishlist (like Cuir Béluga and Dans Paris), so it didn’t feel quite as unique.

Gaiac 10 was actually really interesting because it smelled a little BBQ-smoky for the first couple of minutes before turning into a really pretty woody skin scent. I was honestly a little underwhelmed at first, but as soon as I got home my mom told me I smelled amazing and immediately said she wanted a bottle herself, so I will give that one another chance!

I also really liked Tabac 28 and Mousse de Chêne 30, although I don’t think I’d actually buy either of them. I definitely want to retry Osmanthus 19 too because by the time I got to it my nose was completely exhausted and I was barely able to pick up any notes, which is a shame because it sounds so beautiful on paper.

Has anyone else here tried the City Exclusives? I’d love to hear which ones ended up being your favorites!

Oh and I also stopped by the Byredo boutique afterwards and completely rediscovered my love for Animalique, so I guess my wallet isn’t getting a break anytime soon.

Almost 2 years post-op with thick skin

Left: pre-op, middle: cast removal, right: 20 1/2 months post-op.

My rhinoplasty journey has honestly been such a rollercoaster, but I wanted to share some semi-long-term results as someone with thick skin.

Looking back at old pictures, I genuinely don’t even remember it looking this bad right after surgery (I think I was just avoiding looking at myself and being a little delulu) but I really did look like a clown. I don’t see a lot of people talking about it, but honestly my entire face was kinda deformed for a good 2-3 months, especially my lips, and I just looked a little off for a while.

For the first 14-16 months, I also didn’t feel like my nose changed all that much, but over the last few months it has finally settled into my face and I’m genuinely so happy with how it looks now. It isn’t 100% straight from the front btw, but I honestly don’t mind since I feel like it gives me a bit of character. I also got my lip and chin filler redone during recovery and lost a bit of weight and now I’m finally at a point where I actually love my side profile.

If you have any questions as a thick-skinned girl, feel free to ask! Recovery is really rough sometimes, but it does get better 🤍

Empfehlungen für schöne Spots in Frankfurt?

Ich bin Ende des Monats mal wieder in Frankfurt und werde ein wenig Zeit haben, die Stadt zu erkunden. Was würdet ihr mir da empfehlen?

Danke euch!
