Why does the party that doesn't want to get divorced hold all of the cards?

I am just about at my wits' end in trying to get my divorce finalized. Yes, I am in the vast minority because I am a college-educated male trying to divorce my college-educated wife. Apparently that only happens like 10% of the time, but that's neither here nor there.

This entire process has been me conceding little bits here and there, just trying to get this finalized. Her family is backfilling her bank account to cover all of her attorney fees, while I am slowly bleeding dry with my attorney. We are 5 days away from what is supposed to be hearing to settle the divorce, and yet she continues to not give an inch on shit that doesn't even matter.

She never wanted a divorce because I was her doormat and gave her everything she ever wanted, and clearly she doesn't want the gravy train to end. It just sucks that she ends up holding all of the cards and I have to concede away nearly everything, one little bit at a time.

Anyone have a local bank or credit union (Portland area) they recommend that doesn't suck?

I used to use (and love) Gorham Savings Bank, especially because they never resold their mortgages to other companies. Ever since they were merged / bought out by Maine Community Bank, their service has gone straight into the toilet.

I am looking to get set up with a new bank / credit union that doesn't suck. Anyone have recommendations?

Anyone ever actually receive payment in the form of goods or real estate?

I distinctly remember the MPRE and my professional responsibility class hammering on the various requirements to be "paid" by a client in the form of goods or real estate, but have never done so in practice.

I'd love to hear stories from those of you that actually have. What did you get? Was it worth the ethical hoops?

New patient / first order process was flawless

Figured I would join the chorus of satisfied folks on here. After agonizing over whether to take compounded tirzepatide for months, I finally took the plunge after extensive research and went with Rift.

I filled out all of my new patient paperwork and submitted everything at about 330 PM this past Sunday. The doctor reviewed everything and approved the prescription at about 2 AM on Monday morning.

I went with Apothecary, but I had no idea they were going to stop production soon. The pharmacy had a shipping label created by 9 AM, and actually shipped at about 3 PM yesterday. I'm fortunate to be in New England and relatively close to the pharmacy, so everything arrived at about 1030 AM today. The BUD on all three vials is November 26, 2026.

I just took my first dose a few minutes ago and found the little pamphlet the pharmacy included to be very helpful.

Looking forward to continuing the journey here, and here's to weight loss!

Does wearing sleeve garters make me look like a tool?

For some reason my right arm always has a ton of dress shirt showing when I have my suit jacket on, compared to my left sleeve. Until I have the time and money to get the sleeve shortened, I've been wearing sleeve garters on my dress shirt. The only people who see it are my coworkers in the prosecutors office. Otherwise I have a suit jacket on in court.

On a scale of 1-10, how big of a tool do I look like with sleeve garters on?

How much can GPA and class rank overcome being at a lower-ranked school?

Title says it all. I'm currently #1 in a class of 95 at a T90 school. Is there any rule of thumb as to much GPA and class rank can overcome a lower-ranked school? Are federal clerkships out of my reach? Tax LLMs at prestigious schools?

Clueless about what color tie to pair with suit + dress shirt combinations

https://imgur.com/a/Ct0zW0w

I apologize first and foremost for the stupid questions, but I am trying to expand my suit options beyond what I have currently, which is a black suit and white dress shirt.

I recently purchased a dark navy suit and a charcoal suit, along with the light blue and black dress shirts, all pictured above.

My first question is whether there are any issues pairing any combination of my three suit colors (black, charcoal, dark navy) with any of my three dress shirt colors (white, black, light blue). I recognize that a black suit + black shirt combo, or a charcoal suit + black shirt is probably a no-go.

Assuming the other combinations work, which color ties would work for each combo? I will be in court for work constantly, so I can't go with any absurd Better Call Saul color combinations.

Thank you!

STBXW blew up mediation

Apologies in advance for a mixture of a rant/venting session.

I filed for divorce in February. My STBXW did not want to get divorced. I won't get into the long story of why, but I have been done with the marriage for a while. We have two young kids. She wanted to wait for a court-appointed mediator, which would have taken 3-4 months to be assigned, if we were lucky. I believed at the time (and still do) that she wants to drag the entire process out as long as possible.

I offered to pay 100% of the cost of mediation, as long as she promised she would approach it in good faith. She agreed to do so. 2 months into mediation, and there wasn't much to show for it. We were slowly inching toward an agreement, but still far off in some regards. We had the basics agreed to regarding 50/50 custody. We were scheduled for an in-person mediation session next week, to hopefully get us closer to the finish line and avoid a trial.

I got an email late last night from the mediator, telling me that my STBXW has rescinded her previous offers and is now basically demanding primary custody, which would have the trickle-down effect of changing child support, spousal support, etc. It was such a terrible move on her part that even the mediator said to me that she didn't want to waste my time/money having us meet next week.

What really blew my mind was that in the email she sent to the mediator, she completely fabricated "quotes" and made me out to be a terrible person. Needless to say, I have cancelled the scheduled mediation and asked the mediator to close out the account and refund me whatever is left of the $4,000 retainer I put down. If I'm lucky, I'll get about $750 refunded, so $3,250 down the drain and nothing to show for it.

I told my STBXW that she blew up mediation and had wasted thousands of dollars of money I didn't have, so nicely done on her part. At this point, we will be going to trial and will spend thousands upon thousands of dollars to each get a worse outcome than if we would just have agreed to something. Such a waste.
