I’d love to read some books written by the “enemy” (highly debatable) of the Vietnam War, especially written by soldiers on the ground. I can imagine them wondering, “why don’t they mind their own business?”

My mom is almost 80 and never saved a penny in her life. She got lucky and married a financially stable guy when she was around 55 who has generously taken care of her. He has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 bone and liver cancer.
I understand she may qualify for his SS benefits ($2k) but because all his assets and income are ‘family business’ (including the house they live in) and there will be five surviving siblings of his i don’t expect my mom to receive anything when he passes.
I love my mom but she’s a HANDFUL who takes up a lot of space. My partner of 26 years, who loves my mom, has already told me if I insist on her moving in she will move out. The truth is I don’t want to live with her either.
I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how you handled it? My thinking is subsidizing an apartment for her despite trying to make up for lost time on my own retirement savings.
It’s tough because when my grandparents needed assistance they could cover their own financial needs.
Not that it really matters because I have a loving relationship with my mom now, but after my parents divorce when I was seven my mom moved far away and didn’t contribute to my growing up in any way.
I have a Drumbrute and am interested in programming and 3/4 beat. I’ve read that the way to do it is to use 12 bars instead of 16 but I’m struggling to wrap my head around that in practice. I’ve searched YouTube but perhaps my keywords are weak because I’m striking out.
I’m relatively inexperienced with drum machines but have put together dozens and dozens of simple songs with parts to use as a guideline for band practice when our drummer is unavailable.

I was working out of the El Capitan Forest Service Camp (rip) and had befriended the cave guide. One day we both got off work early and decided to venture deep into the cave way beyond the little portion dedicated to tours.
It was awesome in there. We had to descend and then climb (to get out) a 15 foot (ish) cliff using a rope. There was another stretch about 35 feet long where I had to lay on my belly and pull myself uphill with my fingers. Made me glad I wasn’t claustrophobic.
The Alaska Room was a huge cavern that had apparently been carved out by water eroding the karst. It was littered with rocks and boulders on the floor and my memory is that my flashlight barely exposed the ceiling, although it was almost 30 years ago and memories can exaggerate things.
I must have thought these were interesting features of the cave. In the third pic you can see my feet as I’m climbing out of view.
It was a blast and I was covered in mud when we made our exit from the cave. I later found out what we had done was frowned upon by the bosses because of the risk, but we had told my coworker and gave him a timeline. I later found out it was only the second time the cave guide had descended that far.
I’m cleaning out my garage and found a stack of photos from that summer. Most of them are party pics with my friends and a midnight swim at Buggies, but these three were from my cave exploring. I don’t expect I would have the courage or flexibility to make this same trip today.
He said only he and Nora escaped alive, and there were all the rotting bodies. Was there some sort of civil war?
Also, it’s interesting that there are countless freaks but so far in game not one person has turned. Perhaps all survivors are immune and it’s airborne. That would explain the full body suit O’Brien wears.
