For fellow runners: how quickly did running mileage decline in the third trimester?

I'm 32 weeks today and was able to hold 50 miles a week for 30 weeks. Last week I went down to 45 because running definitely felt much tougher overall. It could have something to do with the raging heat wave in the south east but it could also just be how pregnant I am. I figured it might make sense to continue to drop 5 miles a week until my due date but just curious how others have "tapered" for child birth.

For women who kept their last name...

Did you hyphenate your baby's last name or give your baby your last name as a middle name? My last name is long and difficult to pronounce (9 characters) vs my husband's last name is 5 characters, simple, and you cannot possibly mess it up. I don't want my last name to just die as it's very important to me. Ironically, I am not close with my father at all but his parents practically raised me and that's why the last name is so important to me. I'm wondering if I should just skip giving my girl a "normal" middle name (like Marie) and give her my last name as a middle name. I don't want her to have to constantly spell out a long hyphenated name for life as I know firsthand how difficult it was growing up with a last name no one could spell or pronounce...

9 days out from baby shower and still so much we need

This is my first baby so maybe this is completely normal but everyone really hammered into our brains not to buy anything until after we have our shower because we'll get so much. We did get some things for free through family/friends/local FB groups so we do have a basinet, some clothes, infant tub, changing pad, etc. but my baby shower is in 9 days and only 35% of our registry has been purchased. My husband and I are in a fortunate enough position that we can buy everything we need if we have to but I'm just confused and stressed (story of my life lately). We have 24 RSVP's for the shower (with a few children). We are having a girl....what are the chances everyone is ignoring the registry and just buying us cute clothes that we won't necessarily need? I truly don't mean to sound ungrateful! I have always been one to shop the registry or give money and not just bring what I thought was best. From other moms who have been there, how did this turn out for you?

Nursery furniture decision fatigue

28 weeks pregnant this week and still have not got any furniture for the nursery (we are furnishing it ourselves and have registered for just about everything else). I will admit I am someone who experiences decision fatigue/regret with many purchases/decisions, but with a baby it's a whole other level of pressure from social media with everyone who has the picture perfect $2000 nursery furniture set. A few thoughts/comments below on where I'm leaning.

The main reason I don't want to spend $1500 on a crib/dresser is because I like matching bedroom sets and so unless I go with pottery barn, (which I've heard many a horror stories about buying baby furniture from them) then it's probably not realistic that the furniture I pick now is going to grow with them that long if I want them to match. A lot of kids furniture companies offer matching toddler beds but I am not really a fan of the price vs quality that many of the major brands have. Babyletto for example, I love the look but have heard the wood quality is not great and scratches easily. I don't want to pay $400 for a crib that will be ruined just from me being too rough with it.

I am leaning towards just getting an IKEA crib and a changing table. The nursery has a full closet so I could just get some wire drawers from the container store to put clothes both hanging and in drawers in the closet. The total cost would be significantly less than many of the other big kids furniture brands and then I won't feel as bad when we sell it on FB marketplace and upgrade to a matching bedroom set once baby is older (5-6?).

This leads to my main questions of, does it really matter what nursery furniture we pick or is it all temporary? And, will I be fine without a dresser or should I pivot to my second option of no changing table and just getting a crib and larger dresser to double as a changing table?

Sincerely,

A first time mom who is tired and overwhelmed

Third trimester moms, how much are you still running?

I'm 27 weeks and 3 days today and hopefully will still run around 53-54 miles this week. With entering the third trimester next week, I'm curious how much others are still able to run and when the shift is going to come. I def have had two weeks where there was a noticeable slow down in pace. One maybe a month ago and one this week. But all in all I'm still feeling good and about a min slower than my easy pace pre pregnancy. My Dr has said the baby will tell me when to cut back/slow down but so far she hasn't really told me to stop so I'm just curious when that might be coming.

Ceiling fan and light cutting out for a second

We have a ceiling fan/light downstairs and two upstairs in our bedroom all controlled by remotes. They all three will randomly cut off/flicker and immediately come back on (both the light and the fan). I don't believe the light bulbs are the issue since the fan is cutting off too. Any other ideas of what we can check or should we just hire an electrician to come take a look? It's really frustrating that all these light/fan issues somehow didn't come up during the inspection at all but we turn the light on and after maybe 90 seconds it's already flickering every minute or more.

Babyletto Performance Ivory Boucle + cat owners

Any cat owners out there have the Babyletto Kiwi Power Recliner in the Performance Ivory Boucle? I've never owned furniture of that texture/material and just curious if your cats are tearing it to shreds.

Does working from the home with childcare actually work?

Question for all the parents out there who work out of the home and have someone come to their house to help care for their children. Do you find you're actually able to stay focused or is it easier to have the child out of the home in daycare? Expecting our first child in October and my husband and I both work at home (me full time, him around 60% of the time). We are touring daycares now but obviously I'd prefer to just have her under my roof at all times. Is that realistic or will it pull me in 17 different directions having her in the home while I'm working?

Babyletto Dresser/Changing Table

Question for people who have a dresser/changing table from Babyletto. Is it annoying that the drawers don't open all the way?

Small Ikea Hemnes Dresser as Changing Table

We have already been given a soft changing pad but I'm wondering from those who have also used the Hemnes as a dresser/changing table combo. Is it easier to have a plastic/wipeable changing pad? I'm worried with no changing table topper the soft one will move around too much. Would love to hear what others using the Hemnes (or a dresser with no topper) have done.

Go-To Stitch Short Fit

I know it's a new arrival but does anyone know if the go-to stitch short has the same fit as the go-to fleece short? I'm 6 months pregnant and the go-to fleece shorts have a nice oversized fit, hoping these are similar.

Pregnancy boobs and running

Was an avid runner prior to getting pregnant (regular 70 mile weeks last summer). Then got long COVID and took a good chunk of time with no running or only 10 mile weeks. Struggled with some Achilles injuries right when I got pregnant but have finally built myself back up to 50 mile weeks at 19-22 weeks and still going!

I still feel relatively normal sized for being pregnant and can luckily wear my pre pregnancy running clothes still but my boob growth is insane. I was a 30DD sometimes 30D prior to conceiving and according to the abrathatfits calculator I am now a 32H. Help...what sports bras are we wearing for running that minimizes bounce and chafe? I bought a few from ON that I love (size M D-DD) and they really hold everything in but the chaffing the first two runs has been unbearable. I wanted to order a few Lululemon energy high support bras but I'm worried as those are size based they might not fit a few months from now. Appreciate any insight from moms who have been there, done that.
