Thinking of replacing my 2014 BMW 118i with an EV — sensible or dumb?

Currently considering switching to an EV and wanted some opinions on whether it makes financial/practical sense for my situation.

Current car:
\- BMW 118i (2014)
\- \~64k miles
\- Probably worth around £8k privately
\- Currently reliable, but I’m conscious that older German cars can start getting expensive once bigger maintenance items start appearing

My driving:
\- Around 10k miles a year
\- Commute twice a week: 100 mile round trip each day
\- Parents live in Wales about 280 miles away, but I only go every 3-4 months and don’t mind stopping once to charge

Other context:
\- I have home charging available
\- Good credit score
\- Considering using around £7k via 0% money transfer / balance transfer credit card offers on top of selling my current car
\- I can technically pay cash instead, but I’m exploring the 0% route because I’m disciplined with credit cards and the fuel savings should offset a decent chunk of the cost

I’m basically trying to work out whether:
\- Switching to an EV is financially sensible vs keeping the BMW
\- My mileage/use case suits EV ownership
\- Avoiding future BMW maintenance bills is a reasonable justification
\- Using 0% credit card borrowing for part of the purchase is sensible or financially stupid

Would appreciate honest opinions, especially from people who’ve made a similar switch.

Also open to used EV recommendations around the £14-15k range.

Trip.com issue in rebooking cancelled BA flight

My BA flight booked on Trip.com was cancelled and I was rebooked on another flight very early in the same day. The original flight was at 11pm and the new one is around 12 hours before that.

The new flight does not work for me so I had requested to be put on another BA flight scheduled just 2 hours before my original flight.

However I am having trouble with Trip.com putting me on that flight. They keep saying that they have submitted a request with BA, but that BA keep refusing the request despite the fact that there are seats on the flight. I have been going back and forth with Trip.com for many days now like this and am at my wits end. I had called BA and they also confirmed that seats are available but the fact that I booked on Trip.com, it has to be done via them. BA also said that they never received any request from Trip.com.

I really don’t know what to do here. My understanding is that the airline has a legal obligation to put me on another more convenient flight if available on the same day but I’m struggling with this. I’m worried that the 9pm flight may soon get fully booked due to Trip.com’s delay and I really cannot take a flight before 6pm as I have an important meeting to attend that day.

Would really appreciate if anyone can provide some insight on how I can handle this issue or any other advice.

Thank you!

Tax refund on Apple MacBook online collection in Spain

Hi I’m looking for some advice on how to claim a VAT refund on a MBA ordered for collection when I’m travelling to Spain from UK.

I am trying to pre order (for collection) a MBA 13 M5 32GB RAM from Apple Spain as I am travelling to Marbella on 18 June - 21 June. I need to pre order as the 32GB version has a 3 week lead time, so i need to order this well before i get there.

However the main reason I want to order it from Spain is that I can claim 21% VAT refund as I am from UK (a non EU country). I had previously done this for my watch but that product I had bought directly in the store and not an online order for collection.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to go about doing this? If I order online on the Apple Spain Website, how do I make sure that the VAT refund receipt will be provided to me by Apple.

Thanks!

Will my travel insurance cover this?

Was flying from Gatwick and had booked an airport parking through the comparetheparking.co.uk website. Chose the cheapest option (yes, I know my mistake) which said that I must call the parking company GAPS Parking 30 minutes before arriving so they can drop me off to the terminal.

I called them 4 times while on the way, but no one picked up. Not wanting to be late for my flight, I decided to just go to the Gatwick long stay parking instead. I ended up paying £102 on top of the £38 for the GAPS parking.

I know I can do a chargeback for the £38 (used credit card), but do you know if there is any chance I could get a refund of the extra I paid to Gatwick Long Stay? Had it not been last minute I would have paid much much less by pre booking.

I know this seems like quite a long shot, but would appreciate any advice. I get travel insurance with my Monzo Max account.

My favourite burrito spot has now been completely ruined because of the above.

I used to be a regular at a burrito spot (think chipotle) where there used to be a lovely South American and white person working who always had a positive attitude. One week a new Indian woman joined and instantly I recognised her bad attitude not giving a f about customers/tiny portions.

Slowly now only Indians working here and the place has been completely ruined. Dirty, tiny portions as if it’s coming out of their own pocket (it’s not a franchise), horrible attitude, no smiles etc.

Please stop. Or learn a thing or two about customer service. I say this as an NRI myself.

Got a second date with a girl I met online. I had asked for a second date and she’s up for “anything easy” on Friday evening?

What would you suggest?

Walk? Is dinner too datey?
Had gone for coffee for the first date so don’t want to do that again.

Thanks!

Does anyone know how soon the Barclaycard yearly spending tracker updates? I have 2 days to hit my 20k target (which I think I may have hit today) but my spending target hasn’t updated since last week.

Does anyone know if it should still count in my 12 month period if the tracker updates a bit later as I have spent the money within the 12 months

Hi folks

I wondered if anyone with an OCI card has managed to use the electronic immigration gates in India. I recent had an e-mail that OCI card holders can also sign up and use these and wondered how this experience has been? Is it seamless like we have in the egates in the UK? And does this mean we no longer have to do those useless paper landing cards saving me from the embarrassment of having to ask my fellow passengers for a pen
