Basically I work in a bookstore and this customer asked me where they could get books to learn about mythology “like Song Of Achilles” and I told her “Song Of Achilles is a good story but not entirely accurate” and they got pissed off at me. To be entirely honest I didn’t fully understand them because they had a really thick American accent (because of course they were a tourist) but at the end they shouted something like “rude and unprofessional” before telling me to kms.

Then she was forced to leave and the entire rest of the day I tried not laughing at the memory of it. I think I was on the wrong end of a bipolar episode or something.

My view on the disabled representation of Marvel Rivals as a disabled person

I want to preface that how people view their disability is an entirely personal thing. I personally dislike my disability and I don’t feel proud of it or consider it part of my identity but I also know that there are people who wouldn’t want to lose their disability because it’s part of who they are. Everyone’s views on their own disability is valid and by extension we all have different opinions on how disability should be represented. If another disabled person disagrees with me then their opinion is just as valid as mine.

Daredevil gets some criticism for how he falls into the “disability almost negated by superpower” trope, seeing as his other senses are so enhanced he almost never struggles with a lack of vision. I personally feel this is a limitation of the medium because Daredevil is a superhero who has to run around and fight people so he needs to be given more awareness than most blind people have. However, Matt commonly has storylines that show the emotional burden of having a disability and not being able to see the world around him or the faces of people he cares about, so I wouldn’t say his blindness is irrelevant. Marvel Rivals conveys his lack of vision in his gameplay by having him unable to see past a certain distance. I honestly think this is a fair compromise because his blindness is a very noticeable aspect of him even in gameplay but it doesn’t make it too difficult to play him. Given how it’s a third person game this isn’t something they needed to include, so the effort to have it anyway is nice to see.

Bucky has always struck me as a bit of an odd form of representation. It’s common for amputee characters to have a mechanical prosthetic that functions the same as a normal arm, which makes sense because it’s a way to include a disabled character without having to write their actions that much differently. The problem I have with this is that at some point it’s hard to remember they’re even disabled. If the arm is able to work identically to a regular arm and in some cases even has fake skin on it to look like a normal arm then it’s hard to feel represented because it’s hard to even tell he’s disabled. Marvel Rivals handles this in a very cool way because Bucky’s mechanical arm is able to turn into a mess of tendrils during his ultimate and MVP animation. While this is mostly just for the cool factor, it also makes for a really cool way to remind the viewer his arm is a prosthetic. Giving his arm loads of weird mechanical functions enforce it’s not a real arm and that Bucky does have a disability. It’s not much but it’s a lot more than what we usually see.

Hawkeye is actually deaf which a lot of people don’t know about. Some writers forget to include it because it’s not as central to the character as Daredevil or Bucky’s disabilities. As far as I can tell there’s not really any indicator of this in game save for him having an hearing aid in his base design although I don’t think his other skins include it. I don’t see any way they could’ve included it to the extent DD and Bucky had theirs included but it is a bit disappointing how Hawkeye’s deafness isn’t conveyed more clearly.

Moonknight is mentally disabled due to his dissociative identity disorder (also called multiple/split personality disorder) which results in him believing that he is actually three people who all have different lives and personalities. Marc is the main identity and is the one who has the Moonknight mantle. He is generally seen as a positive representation of mental illness especially in the show that focused on explaining how this type of mental disorder occurs. Marvel Rivals actually doesn’t handle this with nearly as much grace as he’s consistently portrayed with. Marc’s illness is often used for comedy like when he doubts his surroundings and is genuinely convinced he’s having schizophrenic hallucinations at times (for example, when Groot is killed Moon Knight says “That tree was real?”). This feels like quite a reductive disservice to the character because it takes what is a deep and fleshed out portrayal of a serious illness and makes it into a joke. Maybe I’m too easily offended, but if the punchline is “the guy doesn’t know what’s real or not because his mentally ill brain has lost its grasp on reality” then it’s not funny. I’m honestly disappointed about this.

If anyone else who has a disability disagrees or has their own opinions I’d be interested in hearing them. Like I mentioned, I think everyone is entitled to their own view on their disability and representation of that as a whole so I would like to hear how other people think this game handles that. In my opinion a disability should be present and clear in the character, that’s kinda just all I ask. I think it’s cool to show how disabilities really affect people especially when exploring a character not born with their disability but I don’t think that needs to happen for every character.

I feel like if Cyclops is a duellist then we should get Havok as a tank or support

His energy powers are more diverse than his brother’s so I think there’s a lot more potential for a vanguard or strategist.

I know they’d never do this but it would be so funny if they added Ghost Rider as a support and made him drive around in an ambulance

Return of my freaky head canons. These are completely deranged you have been warned

Bucky has an electrocution kink from how Widow likes to use her weapons on him.

Magneto uses metal sex toys to fuck someone without actually touching them and just masturbates to the sight.

Scott is telepathically connected to Jean, Madelyne, Emma, Betsy and Kwannon so if one of them orgasms it causes a chain reaction that makes everyone feel it. By extension Logan, Warren, Wanda, Seamus and John all feel it too.

Luna writes unholy amounts of smut fanfic about other heroes including her friends. She keeps this locked in a safe hidden inside her wall that has three layers of security.

Squirrel Girl also writes smut fanfic but unlike Luna she’ll gladly show it to anyone who asks and offers to write some of them too.

Emma read Luna’s mind and found out about the fanfic. Instead of leaking it she started planting telepathic suggestions in Luna’s head to write copious amounts of Jemma smut.

The reason Ultron has a fantastic 4 buffer is because it was a gift from Reed and Sue after Ultron agreed to be their go to partner for threesomes. He’s had to rebuild his body 11 times from that.

Punisher cums once every 4 months and there’s recoil on it.

Sai uses her psionic constructs to pleasure herself. She doesn’t make rose toys or anything it’s still swords and stuff. She just uses them as sex toys.

Daredevil loves wrapping his limbs around his partner to feel as much of them as possible. Also, he likes biting people.

Black Panther loves risky outdoor sex where he may get caught. The thrill makes him finish quicker.

Doctor Doom has sex with only his doom bots. Even when he was briefly married to Wanda, he only fucked them. He let her watch though and she still has the tapes.

The reason Quicksilver’s not in the game yet is because Hawkeye fucked him so roughly he can’t walk anymore.

Wanda got annoyed with Venom and Toad flirting with her so she set them up and is now somehow the godmother of their babies.

Deadpool and Wolverine’s assholes revert to their virgin tightness from their healing factors. Absolutely no one has a problem with this.

You can get the powers of anyone in the roster, but you have to let them rail you raw and rough. I’m going with Hawkeye, I think it’s worth it

I just know those cheeks clench from muscle memory every time he sees Jean use her telepathy because he’s so used to her psychically pegging him

Punisher has his logo on his shirt and his boxers? Does he own a brand or something? How does he have his logo on all of his clothes?
