Overly Religious Grandparents trying to convert grandson.
So my parents are Baptists and force fed me Baptism for my entire childhood including high school. I had my doubts starting senior year of high school and college was the nail in the coffin for my faith. If others enjoy it and provides value in their life, that's fine. But Baptists can be a little oppressive (like most religions) and think ONLY their God is the righteous one. Again... like most religions. They even told me growing up that Ghandi and Mother Theresa were both in hell because they weren't Christian/Baptist. Very fire and brimstone way of thinking. ONLY Baptist friends and extremely bigoted (truly believe every homosexual is an abomination to God and shouldn't exist). I'm often liberal when it comes to that and fight them on their bigotry. I even asked my dad one time, so what if i turned out to be gay? What would you have done. My own father said if that happened, he would've wished I was never born. That's the kind of mentality I'm dealing with here. My parents know I've veered away from faith and we don't bring it up. However, now they're watching our son from time and time and he's four and a half. Just this weekend, my son tells me how he learned about Jesus and God and how you can't say "Oh my God" anymore... only Oh my Goodness. Kids are sponges and I was waiting to have this conversation when he was more mature. I'm not saying he has to be agnostic like me, but choose what he wants to believe when he understands the ramifications. IMHO, brainwashing kids is kind of the Baptists' MO. They teach them young to tithe by putting money in the offering plate, and really drive into them how scary Hell is and why you need to be a Baptist so you don't end up there. How do I handle this if I don't want my kid being pressured into Christianity just like I was? Like they even told him the demon hunters from K Pop Demon Hunters were afraid of God because he's so powerful. Stop that. It's not your place. It's not your kid. Do I need to set boundaries? My wife was/is catholic and is basically agnostic like me; we've never gone to church together in our 11 years of marriage. Not only the religious aspect, but I'm sure my kid is going to encounter friends who are gay or the like, and he's going to hear the absolute worst venom from Grandma if he mentions it.
