Can't decide if I want to buy one
My girlfriend and I are buying a new car and we have already settled on buying an electric one. This will be the second car at our house, as we already have a big family gasoline car for long trips and big loads.
My girlfriend is currently driving a 2006 Renault Megane and it's ready to move on to greener pastures. She complained that it's a bit too big for her taste and that she would prefer something a bit smaller. So we did some research, called a few car dealers, did some test drives, checked availability and finally reached a decision: We're buying a Nissan Micra! We even got an offer: 30.660€ for a well-specced Nissan Micra Advance 52 kWh.
Since the r/nissanmicra subreddit is completely dead and the car is basically the same (the only difference being that the Micra isn't sold out), I'm asking this here. Just imagine I'm asking about the R5.
Then we presented our decision to two tech-savvy relatives (one of them owns a Tesla) to get their opinion, and they both (unbeknownst to each other) gave us the same answer: why are you paying 30.660€ for a small car if you could get a Tesla Model 3 for 35.000€?
And it's true, the base Model 3 in my country costs 35.000€.
So this realization threw our entire strategy for buying a new car out of whack. I still kind of like the Micra, but the price difference is ridiculously small. Honestly I would feel a bit stupid for buying it while knowing that a Tesla costs less than 5.000€ more.
What am I missing here? When I asked the Nissan guy for an extra discount he said that their cars are selling like hotcakes anyway, so somebody else will buy it if I won't
We don't really want or need such a big car, but the price difference is really small.
How could I mentally justify buying the Nissan anyway? I really like it not being Chinese or affiliated with a fascist for a start.
We have 2 small children (1 and 4 years old), and even though we already have a bigger gasoline family car, we will also want to use our new car for family day trips because of the fuel cost savings.
Is it possible to comfortably put 2 kids in child seats in the back of this car? And a foldable stroller and 2 small backpacks in the boot? I know this is not a family wagon, but I'm wondering if it's big enough for us anyway.
