Willing to take a 100k+ cut and still no job offers

Is the job market just cooked or am I doing something wrong? I need to get out of my job cause it causes me so much stress I started having panic attacks and insomnia and I had to see a mental health professional…at my job people are constantly laid off and disappearing.

Due to a combination of toxic politics with my product owner throwing me under the bus and getting stuck with bad projects I feel like I’m on the chopping block. I got a ‘meets’ at mid year but my boss told me verbally he was not happy.

I have applied to hundreds of jobs got very few callbacks and zero offers. I went so far as to apply for jobs in lower paying industries like government and healthcare where the pay is less than half what I make and still nothing. Am I blacklisted or something? 4 years ago I got two offers in a month. I feel like I’m going crazy at this point…

$1.4 M at 35. Job is making me sick. Should I quit?

About half in taxable brokerage, half in retirement. I am paid well but my job is very stressful and toxic and I’m constantly worried about being laid off or PIPed.

I started having panic attacks and insomnia due to the stress. I’ve tried to look for other jobs including take a 100k pay cut with zero results. Current expenses are low at about $50 k a year but probably want to buy a house at some point.

Should I just quit at this point? I got stuck with some bad projects and got caught in some toxic politics with my product owner throwing me under the bus and I feel like I’m on the chopping block every day. Only thing is if I quit I lose my health insurance and I don’t know if the stress of not having money coming in will be worse then the stress I’m under now

Has anyone been able to find a job the last couple of months?

I constantly hear about how bad the job market is but I also know a few people who have found a job the past year or so including my friend who was PIPed from his job but then got into FAANG. I have a job that I can’t really stand and have recently started looking. So far no interviews though. Honestly not sure what to expect but hoping I can find something sooner than later. Is it close to impossible right now or is there hope?

How to protect your mental health at work in this economy?

My job has gotten bad to worse this past year. My team got cut by almost half and the remaining had to pick up all the work.

I’m busy and stressed all the time and leadership is not appreciative at all and I’m constantly being told I need to do more and that with AI I should be able to do the work of 3-5 people. They have started using a tactic where they constantly layoff the “bottom 10%” and then rehire to create churn so that you feel like you need to do whatever is asked that to have a job. I worry about being laid off and losing my income but I’m so stressed sometimes I want to quit.

I feel sick to my stomach all the time and I have tried to look for jobs but it’s hard to even get an interview these days. I try to go to the gym and spend time with loved ones but it’s hard for me to get my mind off everything. How is everyone protecting their mental health these days and is there anything I can so I don’t lose it?

Anyone feel like work has gotten so much less fulfilling with AI?

We use AI agents for all coding now and I have not written any major codes from scratch for over a year. Most of my time has shifted to writing prompts to generate code and then using subsequent prompts to troubleshoot and make edits. I feel like my pure coding skills have eroded so much.

On top of that my workload has increased significantly that most times I am just using prompts to push out changes and just meeting the bare minimum to close it out as I have to meet deadlines for each release. Sadly I feel this is the future. Gone are the days where you just buckle down and write out an entire code. I feel like I am losing a lot of the passion I had. It doesn’t help that layoffs have become so rampant and the culture is going downhill as well.

My job is is making me sick but I need the income

Anyone else in this situation? I’m so sick and tired of being sick and tired of my job. I have a typical corporate job and the culture has gotten worse and worse the past few years. I work in a matrix environment with little structure, leadership is very pushy and difficult to work for, constant layoffs, always being pulled into tough situations where I’m expected to solve problems for things that aren’t even my responsibility. No one cares because the job market sucks for my field (analytics) and leadership is constantly looking to downsize. I keep looking for jobs but can barely get an interview

I’ve been trying to deal with it through therapy, developing hobbies outside work (gym, doing something fun with family and friends every weekend) and of course saving as much as I can and investing so that someday I can get out of this situation…

But at this point I’m so far from getting to financial independence. I’m only in my mid 30s and can’t imagine doing this for another 20+ years and sometimes I think if I would even be able to keep a job as my industry seems be quickly obliterated by AI and offshoring. I’ve been barely spending money cause I just wanna build a nest egg but I’ve been getting so frustrated because I see numbers of 2-3 million before I can even think about…how is everyone finding balance in this economy?

Anyone feel on the constant edge of a mental breakdown in this economy?

Hi all, I am corporate worker in mid thirties and I constantly feel like I’m having a mental breakdown. I have acquired a 1.5 M net worth but I have no idea how much longer I can hold out. My workload increases every day and on top of that I constantly deal with nasty politics, activity tracking, stack ranking and layoffs are getting worse and worse and my mental health is in the gutter.

I have tried to look for other jobs but can barely even get an interview. The job market is just atrocious and it’s hard to even find a “low paying” job. I’m really glad I started the FIRE lifestyle relatively early as I don’t know how much longer I can deal with the stress. On top of that everything is crazy expensive from housing to cars to food. Makes me grateful that I found this lifestyle. I have so many colleagues that live paycheck to paycheck despite having a decent salary and I’m sure they’re feeling 10 times more stressed than I am at the moment.

Best way to train for long, difficult hikes with limited time

Hi all, I am planning on hiking in Patagonia in 6 months and will be doing lots of long/strenuous day hikes on both the chile and Argentina sides. I plan to hike for 2 weeks and complete several hikes around 14 miles and 4,000 ft elevation. I am in decent shape as I am a weightlifter and do the occasional cardio. However I do not do long hikes regularly and also do not live in proximity to any challenging hiking trails. I also do not have time to do long workouts and can only do 1-2 hr workouts 4-5 times a weeks. I do have access to a gym with lots of equipment

How would you train to prepare? I have hiked many national parks however the longest/most challenging I have done is 8.5 miles with 3,000 ft elevation and I have also not done a trip where I am doing a challenging trail almost every day. If I could get some advice from experience hikers on training I’d really appreciate it.

Do breast implants or fat transfer have less risk of complications?

I’m debating which to get. I’m not looking for a huge increase just a cup or so and was considering fat transfer as I have always had a sensitive body and worried about potential breast implant illness and I would also prefer not to have to deal with getting them replaced down the line but after doing research it seems fat transfer has many risks as well including poor retention, permanent cysts and necrosis

Which would you say would be best for a situation where someone is just looking for a small change?

Broke up with a wealthy guy now depressed seeing his new wife living in luxury

I dated a guy a couple years who was fairly well off. He has a company that owns a chain of movie theaters and restaurants but ultimately ended things as he was tough to get along with, had a hot temper and I always felt like I was walking on eggshells plus he was much older than me. Also at the time I was climbing the corporate ladder quickly in my profession and was feeling like a ‘strong independent woman’ and spending weekends getting fucked up at bars and having fun being single and preferred the thrill of dating guys my own age

Now a few years later I came upon his new wife’s IG and I see she got married at the Bel air, constantly going on vacations all around the world, new Birkin bags, plus they moved to Miami and now live at a penthouse on the waterfront and i ended up depressed for days.

I feel like a fool. My industry has been hit so hard by layoffs and I feel burnt out and tired from working. I feel like I could’ve had that lifestyle if I didn’t waste my 20s being stubborn and partying it away. I literally had a very wealthy real estate developer walk up to me and give me his business card and I never called him and threw it away. I just feel like such a stupid girl because I had the youth, beauty and intelligence to attract a successful wealthy men and I could have had that easy life but I was so immature and stubborn that I threw it away to party and be a career woman

What is the risk of being physically assaulted?

I’m currently a corporate worker and make decent money but have been thinking of a career change due to overwork and layoffs. There is a nursing program with tuition assistance I looked at with placement at a local hospital in an urban area.

My question is if I make this career change I will likely be placed in an emergency room position during night shift as this is the position that they are most in need. What is chance of dealing with physical and verbal abuse and in your opinion would it be worth it to make the career change?

It’s always easy to see things with rose colored glasses so I would love to hear an opinion from an actual nurse.

Is it normal to hate your job?

I have a corporate job and I make pretty good money but I wake up feeling stressed and sick every day and I have horrible insomnia due to burnout and toxic politics. It seems everyone hates their job though and I’m told to be grateful I have a job that pays the bills.

And yes I have tried to find a new job but so far no luck and it’s been hard cause I am already overworked and emotionally exhausted to the point I have very little energy to find a job. I’m getting to the point I want to quit. Is something wrong with me?

When the stock markets go up my motivation to work goes down

Anyone feel this lately? My investments are generating so much passive income lately that I have such a low tolerance for work but I also know that this bull run cant last forever and I need to get myself in check. I think I need to stop checking my brokerage balance so much 🤣

How do I can get the total of my investments over 1 year?

I want to sell off this stock as I need the money for a home purchase and I want to know how much is long term over 1 year so I can avoid short term gain tax but I have 8+ pages of stock transactions and would need to add them all together. Has anyone ever done this or figured out an easy way?

Maybe it’s Friday but I’m really struggling with motivation and dealing with the bullshit that comes with the corporate world. I’m at 1.2 mil invested but I’m only in my 30s and it’s not gonna be enough.

Im in this weird spot where I have enough of a nest egg where its been hard for me to put up with the politics and deadlines and power trippers but I don’t have nearly enough to retire and I can feel my tolerance for work visibly slipping. Honestly I worry a little that I’m going to just snap one of these days and I fantasize about quitting.

Has anyone felt this and how did you deal with it?
