Settings > Battery... questions

Pixel 9 Pro XL.

When I go to 'Battery' it tells me I have 89% battery capacity compared to new. That's good I guess so far.

The issue is when I then go to "Battery Health Tips". All 4 options when clicked upon come up in Japanese. I don't read Japanese. Plain old English would be fine.....

Is this a setting I can change, or does everyone get Japanese when you click on these options?

If it's just me, how exactly do I change the language to English.

Legit Manix 2 LW old model?

Just picked this up online. I was pretty sure it was a clone, but from looking at it, it looks real to me. What are the typical differences between the real knife and the clone?

Old model Manix 2?

I see a listing for "Old Model" G10 Manix 2 knives. They supposedly have a hollow grind blade as opposed to a full-flat grind. Is there any benefit to one over the other? Does the old model have any collectability? I can't tell from that image which grind this is. Please educate me a bit.

Manix 2 XL spring?

I'm considering trying out a lighter spring on the above knife just to see the difference. Yes, I realize the stock spring will break in, and I also realize I can leave the spring compressed for a week or two...

The Manix 2 and Manix 2 XL use the same springs (ball cages and ball bearings)

I've seen reference from others on the Reddit to get the 1986K46 spring from McMaster Carr. That spring is rated at 5.3 lbf/in. https://www.mcmaster.com/product/1986K46

I'm curious if this 5.3 lbf/in spring would be considered a 'medium' spring or a 'light' spring or something else.

McMaster Carr also sells similarly sized springs that vary in spring rate from a high of 8.5 lbf/in down to a very low 0.8 lbf/in.

Does anyone know roughly what the stock, 'medium', and 'light' springs are rated for in terms of spring rate?

NKD - Manix 2 XL

A few weeks back I posted a thread showing the extremely splotchy, stained scales I received on a brand new knife. Dark brown splotches all over the brown micarta. Many stated that the staining is normal and "that's the way they all come."

I returned that knife and re-purchased the identical model.

I wasn't sure what was going to arrive this time so I ordered some carbon fiber Flytanium scales just in case ...

I've attached images of both the returned knife and the new one I received today. HUGE difference in the look of the scales.

My advice, if you like the used, dirty look of the brown micarta scales you receive, fine. If not, return the knife for a replacement. At some point Spyderco will hopefully get their quality control on point. Don't settle for something you don't like, even if the masses say that's the way they all come (even though you've seen them come in looking pristine too).

AWT scales - finish choices?

For those of you with AWT scales what's your experience with Cerakote versus anodized? Scratches, chips, anything?

They say the anodized (Type III hardcoat) is far tougher than Type II hardcoat, and Cerakote, but I'm curious what your experience has been with your daily carry knife.

I'd probably prefer the Type III, but some of the colors I like more aren't available in that finish. Also, they mention with the two anodized hardcoats, "slight cosmetic variations such as minor color differences, mottling, visible grain, or small rack/contact marks, and small spots are normal and expected. " What have your experiences been? How bad can it be?

Do the red Spyderco boxes typically have clear seals on one end?

I just returned a Manix 2 XL (Crucarta) to a vendor due to horribly stained micarta scales. Light brown micarta that had extremely dark splotchy patches within the resin.

This particular knife came in the typical red Spydie box, but with a circular, clear, adhesive, tape seal on one end of the box that needed to be cut to open the box.

I asked the vendor if he/she/they could inspect the new replacement to ensure that the scales were as they are supposed to be before sending it out to me. If the boxes are sealed, I assume they cannot open them to inspect each one. But, If the vendor themselves apply the sticker then I assume they can inspect the contents (as long as the sticker is not applied when they first receive the knife, before warehousing it).

So, have your Spydies arrived with sticker-sealed boxes? Is that the way Spyderco sends them out to vendors?

Dressing a new folder?

I'm curious what you guys do when you get a brand new folding knife.

I watched one video where a guy took the knife apart and polished the phosphor bronze bearings with a polish impregnated polishing cloth before putting it back together. I never thought of doing that! That led me to wonder what other people do when getting a new (higher end) folding knife. All I typically do is lube the pivot, protect the blade with a protectant (while assembled), and Loctite the screws.

Do any of you polish the area of the blade/frame/liners where the bearings ride?

Do you typically remove all the screws and use some purple thread locker in them?

What is the typical routine? What would be the ultimate routine?

JB Outman Distributing?

Anyone here purchase from the above company? They seem to have some very good pricing on certain items so I'm wondering if they're legit.

NKD Manix 2 XL Crucarta

Arrived today. My first Crucarta. Not all that enthused with the way the micarta is colored. Looks very dark in splotches especially near the ball cage. Does this appear to be normal for a new knife? I see no signs of wear or usage, except for the extremely ugly scales!

It will be my EDC at least for now so I realize the scales will patina with time. Just wish they weren't so black in spots. Gonna either try some mineral oil or some Frog Lube on them tomorrow to see if I can even out the tone.

Brown Crucarta hardware upgrades?

Just picked up a Manix 2 XL in Crucarta. I went looking online for images of Manix' with aftermarket hardware, trying to see some different color combos. Seems if anyone has the brown (tan?) micarta scales they leave the original silver hardware in place.

Does anyone here have any images of a Crucarta knife with stock scales but colored hardware? I'm looking for some inspiration.

Best oil for corrosion protection?

Today I ordered a Manix 2 XL in Cruwear with brown micarta scales.

This is my first knife in Cruwear. I understand it has the potential of getting a patina if not oiled. It doesn't have to be food safe, but if it is I guess that would be a plus.

I have Frog Lube, mineral oil, and about 20 other gun oils.

I understand Camellia/tsubaki is good too, but what oil is good/best? Can this protective oil also be used for the pivot or would I be better off with 2 separate products, one for corrosion and one for pivot?

Also, would whatever particular product(s) you recommend be good for the brown micarta without permanently staining it? I have a micarta scaled BM Mini-Rukus auto, and a Kizer Sheepdog both with Micarta, and Frog Lube was applied to the micarta without issue. It temporarily darkened the scales but like mentioned it was temporary and didn't leave stains.

Thoughts?

Developer Options?

I have a PW4 45mm. I just enabled Developer Options on the watch somewhat accidentally by repeatedly clicking on some things.

Is there anything in Developer Options I should switch (enable) to make things work 'better'?
