Does 100% on-device AI help conversion, or only retention?

I am the solo founder of Stepzy, an iOS walking and workout app. I recently shipped an AI Coach that explains pace, heart rate, zones, duration, and recent performance entirely on the iPhone using Apple Intelligence.

No workout data is uploaded, there are no AI API calls, and it works offline. I expected privacy to be the strongest marketing hook, but early conversations are making me think users care more about the first useful insight than the architecture.

I am now treating activation as two stages:

  1. The user sees one explanation of their own data that feels genuinely useful.

  2. They return on another day and use that insight loop again.

For other iOS founders, has on-device processing improved store conversion for you, or does it become valuable only after someone already trusts the product enough to install?

I moved Stepzy’s AI coach fully on-device — the marketing benefit was clearer than the technical one

I’m the solo founder of Stepzy, an iPhone + Apple Watch walking and workout app.

I just shipped an AI Coach that reads workout context and gives feedback on pace, heart rate, zones, duration, and recent performance. The implementation detail I expected users to care about was Apple Foundation Models. They mostly didn’t.

The positioning that landed better was simpler:

• your workout data never leaves your iPhone

• no account is required for the AI

• it works in airplane mode

• there’s no cloud AI bill hiding behind the feature

That changed how I’m thinking about marketing technical features. “On-device AI” is the mechanism; privacy and reliability are the outcome.

I’m still testing whether the clearer hook is “a private AI coach for your workouts” or “understand what your workout data actually means.” Which one feels more concrete to other app founders?

Feature: AI coach that runs 100% on your iPhone. Giving away 1 year of Pro

I’ve been working on a new feature for Stepzy called AI Coach, and it’s finally ready.

The idea is simple: instead of just showing you numbers after a workout, Stepzy actually helps you understand them.

AI Coach can:

  • Give you personalized feedback after every workout
  • Explain what stood out in your pace, heart rate, zones, duration, and recent performance
  • Suggest what to focus on next time
  • Coach you based on your entire day
  • Let you chat directly with your workout data and ask follow-up questions

The part I’m most excited about is privacy.

AI Coach runs entirely on your iPhone using Apple Intelligence.

No workout data is uploaded.
No AI API calls.
No account required for the AI.
It even works without internet / in airplane mode.

Your health data stays on your device.

I also redesigned Stepzy’s main experience to make much better use of the full screen, so there’s now a lot more useful information without making the app feel like a spreadsheet.

🎁 1 Year of Stepzy Pro

>To celebrate the launch, I’m giving away 1 year of Stepzy Pro for free.

>If you’d like to try it, comment below, I will share code in DM!

I’d genuinely love feedback, especially criticism. Stepzy is still evolving and a lot of the best improvements have come from people pointing out things I completely overlooked.

AI Coach requires iOS 26 and an Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone.

Thanks for checking it out ❤️

I changed Stepzy’s positioning from “step counter” to “your movement story” — feedback?

I’m the solo founder of Stepzy, an iPhone + Apple Watch activity app.

The marketing problem: “step counter” is clear, but it makes the app sound interchangeable with dozens of utilities. For Stepzy 2.0 I’m testing a more emotional position: help people look back on the story of their movement, not just today’s number.

The product now supports that with:

- a shareable yearly Boarding Pass

- activity patterns and workout personality

- cinematic 3D route flyovers

- richer workout details and heart-rate zones

- polished share cards, awards, themes, and widgets

The App Store listing still needs the practical keywords, but the campaign creative leads with “Your year, told right.”

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6758810944

I’m also running a small Reddit giveaway for 20 one-year Pro memberships to get real feedback on the new positioning and share experience:

https://www.reddit.com/r/StepzyApp/comments/1uz3e4q/stepzy_20_is_live_giving_away_1_year_of_pro_to/

For other iOS founders: would you lead with the emotional “movement story” angle, or keep “step counter” first and use the Boarding Pass as the hook?

Stepzy v2.0 drops this week. Giving away 20 free Pro codes

Been heads down on this one for a while and it's finally close enough to talk about.

The short version: your yearly stats are getting a full redesign. Instead of a plain summary, your year comes together as a Boarding Pass, total workouts, time, distance, calories, January to December, plus your workout personality (Outdoor Explorer or Weekend Warrior, curious which one most of you get).

The other big one: 3D route flyovers. You'll be able to watch your walk or run play back as a cinematic flyover over real terrain and buildings, not just a flat line on a map. Pinch to zoom, adjust playback speed, live stats as it plays.

Also in this update:

- Redesigned Home with an hourly activity timeline (see exactly when you were moving)

- Heart rate zone breakdown on every workout

- 12 new Awards to unlock

- New share cards that actually look good when you post them

- A widget fix for the steps-showing-zero bug some of you flagged (thank you for the reports, this one's been annoying)

>Update drops this week. To celebrate, I'll be giving away 20 codes for a full year of Stepzy Pro once it's live. Details and how to enter go up in a follow-up post the moment the update ships

If there's one thing from this list you're most excited about, drop it below, genuinely helps me figure out what to lean into next.

Check Driver Assistance System' warning on Calligraphy? Check your hand position first!

Got this random warning at 620 miles after 2 days of driving. Spent a few minutes worried something was wrong since the car is brand new.

Texted Hyundai support and they nailed it immediately. Apparently the Calligraphy trim has a driver monitoring camera (not just steering torque sensors like lower trims) that watches your hand position. If you drive with one hand at the top of the wheel like I do, your arm actually blocks the camera lens.

The car interprets this as you deliberately covering the camera and throws the Driver Assistance warning.

Fix: just keep both hands at 9 and 3 position. Warning disappeared immediately.

Confirmed via vehicle health report too, zero actual faults. Pure user behavior issue, not a car problem.

Posting this in case anyone else gets spooked by this warning early on. The Calligraphy's monitoring system is more advanced than I realized, kind of cool once you understand it's working as designed!

VIN built March 2026, 620 miles in, loving the car so far.

2026 Palisade Calligraphy Hybrid - Walk Away Auto Lock not working with Apple CarKey?

Hey everyone! Just picked up my 2026 Palisade Calligraphy Hybrid AWD a few days ago and absolutely loving it so far.

One thing I can't figure out is the Walk Away Auto Lock feature.

Here's what's happening:

  • Proximity unlock works perfectly, car unlocks as I approach ✅
  • But walk away auto lock is NOT engaging when I leave the car ❌
  • I'm using Apple CarKey on my iPhone as my primary key

A few questions for the community:

  1. Does Walk Away Auto Lock work with Apple CarKey or does it require the physical fob?
  2. Is there a specific setting I need to enable in the infotainment system?
  3. Could this be related to the pending OTA software update?

I checked Settings but couldn't find the walk away lock option.

Anyone else experiencing this or found a fix?

2026 Palisade Calligraphy Hybrid - Dealer confirmed hardware fix coming in ~1 month for power seat recall (Recall #296)

Just picked up my 2026 Palisade Calligraphy Hybrid AWD yesterday and wanted to share an update on the power seat recall for anyone waiting or concerned.

Dealer confirmed two phases for the fix:

Phase 1 (already done): Software update applied before delivery. Currently the tailgate needs to be open to fold 3rd row and press-and-hold is required for seat switches. Minor inconvenience but totally livable.

Phase 2 (coming ~1 month): Hyundai is sending actual hardware fix to all dealers. Once parts arrive they’ll call you to bring it in, free of charge, takes 1-2 hours.

For anyone who was waiting on the recall to buy, the software fix makes it completely safe to drive right now and the permanent hardware solution is right around the corner.
Drove 100+ miles in first 2 days, getting 36 MPG real world. Suspension is buttery smooth. Brown Nappa interior is gorgeous. No regrets whatsoever.
Happy to answer any questions! 🤍

Stepzy, a clean and simple iPhone step tracker for daily motivation

I recently built Stepzy, a simple and modern step tracker for iPhone. The goal was to make something that feels clean, motivating, and easy to use without being overloaded with unnecessary features.

Stepzy helps you track your daily steps, view trends, build streaks, and understand your activity in a more visual way. It also syncs with Apple Health, so your steps and workouts stay connected in one place.

Some things Stepzy includes:

  • Daily step tracking with progress goals
  • Weekly, monthly, and yearly insights
  • Streaks and awards to keep you motivated
  • Workout insights like calories, distance, heart rate, and zones
  • Apple Health sync
  • Privacy-focused design, your data stays on your device
  • Built specifically for iPhone

I wanted the app to feel like a lightweight fitness companion, not another complicated health dashboard. It is made for people who just want to walk more, stay consistent, and understand their progress clearly.

App Store link:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/stepzy-smart-step-counter/id6758810944

Would love to hear your thoughts, feedback, feature ideas, or anything you think could make it better. Thanks for checking it out!
