Wood for new exterior storm sashes

My storm sashes are too far gone to be worth repairing and have weirdly placed muntins. I have the know-how to mill up stock from raw lumber, build, and glaze the windows. But I’m absolutely stymied when it comes to species.

Historically, it would have been old growth heart douglas fir or yellow pine in this area. There were probably other local species used on the very oldest buildings here, but I’m not sure what they were.

Anyway, I’ve heard of people using modern pine or cedar. Pine doesn’t appeal because of durability, and I’m having trouble finding clear cedar. Someone suggested jack pine, not sure if it’s available locally. The lumber mill sold me some sapele (mahogany) but it’s too expensive and a real pain to mill. And it’s a tragedy to paint it—it’s gorgeous.

Can anyone recommend something suitable, with rot resistance, that isn’t going to cost me a kidney?

Glue up board

I’m trying to source a glue up board approximately 3’x6’ (can cut down from 4x8). I’ve used one before that has a shiny white layer on top and the back was brown and pressed together very firmly to leave a regular pattern of indents. I can’t find anything like it.

Need a material, not sure what it is

I’m looking for this white plastic grid to use as a surface on which to remove hazardous materials from windows in restoration. It will drop the flakes into a collection bin for temporary containment.

What should I Google to find it?

Missing decorative millwork (repost to add photos, d’oh)

Our 1920 vernacular/farmhouse in New England has a distinct “ghost” where we think a decorative element may have been. We are curious if the ghost reminds anyone of any mass-produced or period-likely decorative carving or plaque. My guess would be wood, and I have a guess as to what the shape could be based on the ghost, but I’m curious if anyone sees something they’ve seen before.

Please note that woodwork throughout the house is very plain as showed in the second photo. It is maple downstairs and something much softer with prominent grain in the kitchen and upstairs. There are absolutely no decorative elements to any of it. Even the newel post and spindles are extremely plain and square. For that reason I’m frankly surprised to see a hint of a curve in this house, which is centered on the panel above the fireplace. We believe all the woodwork in the house is original besides the mantle top, and there is absolutely no decoration in wood or metal anywhere on the property, which originally housed a dairy farming family with a horse stable.

Paging u/mach_gogogo because it’s such a thrill to do so!

Looking for hinge overlay shim/spacer

I am looking for a 1/32” spacer for the Blum Compact series hinges shown. I can only find them for the Blumotion series. First photo is my hinges, second photo is what I am looking for, except it is for Blumotion.

Is there a compatible product available? Will the Blumotion spacer work for my hinges? If neither, what would be the best solution?

I am adjusting a poor installation by someone else where the doors rub against each other. The existing install features three different kinds of sloppy work errors, so micro-adjustment by 1/32 might be needed.

Wood hyacinth or wild hyacinth?

I got these at a plant sale, assumed they were the native type and didn’t listen carefully enough to what the seller called them.

The two plants are the same variety, one is looking prostrate because she just dug it up and it hasn’t recovered yet.

Please estimate your typical AHI range.

My impression is that most people on here have great numbers. Just trying to get a sense of what people achieve.

Under a 10’x20’ patch of MFR, raspberry, wild grape, burning bush, barberry, oriental bittersweet and god knows what else, I found this.

How do I protect it? It was fully shaded, now it’s in full sun. When can I move it to a more suitable location? I so don’t want it to die.
