SEARCHING FOR OUR DAUGHTER – PLEASE HELP SHARE

My name is Nguyen Huy Hoang. I currently live and work in Moscow, Russia.

My daughter, Nguyen Quynh Nga, was born on July 5, 1981, in Hanoi, Vietnam.

In 1989, she came to Russia with her parents while we were postgraduate researchers in Moscow.

In early August 1993, when she was 12 years old, she was abducted in Sochi, Russia.

At the time, she was approximately 148–150 cm (4'10"–4'11") tall, with dark eyes, thick black hair, and a slightly tan complexion. She spoke both Russian and Vietnamese.

For the past 33 years, we have searched for her in many places but still have no news.

We sincerely hope this information can be shared with Vietnamese communities in Vietnam and around the world, in the hope that someone may have information that can help us find her.

We are sharing a photograph of her at age 12.

This post is being shared as a request by poet Nguyen Huy Hoang with members of the Vietnamese community currently living and working in the United States. We respectfully ask for your help in sharing this information with relatives, friends, and others who may know people who once lived in Russia or nearby regions.

Our family sincerely thanks everyone for your attention and support.

P/s: I post it for my friend today because according to Nguyen Huy Hoang, the prophetess Vanga—before her death—predicted that on the day he sought clues regarding his daughter, someone would come to his aid; this was her final prophecy.

What happened to Quynh Nga on Aug/1/1993? Seeking practical strategies to find a real-life missing person

I am looking for help developing a realistic search strategy for Nguyen Quynh Nga, a Vietnamese girl who disappeared in Sochi, Russia, on August 1, 1993, when she was 12 years old.

Quynh Nga was born on July 5, 1981 in Hanoi-Vietnam and moved to the Soviet Union with her parents in 1989. During a family trip to Sochi, she reportedly remained on the beach while the adults went into the sea. She was allegedly seen speaking with a Russian woman shortly before she disappeared.

Her family searched extensively, but more than 30 years later, there is still no publicly confirmed answer about what happened to her. She would now be 45 years old and her family is still looking for her right now, at this very moment. Her family maintains a website here: https://timconquynhnga.com/en/, available in Vietnamese,English, and Russian.

I am looking for people who can help create a practical, ethical and organized search plan.

A possible hypothesis

One possibility that should be considered is that Quynh Nga was kidnapped or taken away by an adult, then raised under a different identity.

If that happened, her name, date of birth, nationality or personal history may have been changed. She may have been registered as another person, placed with a family or institution, or moved to another region of Russia or the former Soviet Union.

Because she was only 12 years old, it is also possible that trauma, isolation, manipulation or the passage of time affected her memories. She may remember only fragments of her childhood, may no longer speak Vietnamese, or may have been given a false explanation about her biological family. Even if she remembers her parents, she may have had no practical way to contact them. She may not know their current address, the correct spelling of their names, or how to search across languages and borders.

1. Narrowing down possible locations

How would an investigator prioritize regions based on:

  • Transport routes from Sochi in 1993
  • Railway, bus, port and airport connections
  • Patterns of movement between Russian regions after the collapse of the Soviet Union
  • Children’s homes, boarding schools or hospitals operating at the time
  • Areas with Vietnamese or migrant communities
  • Regions with cold climates near major rivers, lakes or seas
  • Possible movement into Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the Baltic states or other former Soviet republics

There have also been informal and unverified suggestions that she may have lived in a cold region near water. These suggestions are not evidence, but could they be used alongside transport routes and institutional records to create a ranked list of regions instead of contacting the entire country blindly?

2. Contacting schools, hospitals and institutions

What would be the most effective and legally appropriate way to contact a large number of institutions in Russia?

Possible organizations include:

  • Regional ministries of education and health
  • School district administrations
  • Hospitals and psychiatric or neurological facilities
  • Children’s homes and former orphanages
  • Boarding schools and special-needs institutions
  • Civil registry offices
  • Adoption-related organizations
  • Missing-person NGOs and volunteer search groups

Would it be more effective to contact regional authorities centrally rather than emailing individual schools and hospitals?

Are there public directories or bulk contact databases for these institutions? How can outreach be organized so that messages are credible, translated correctly and not treated as spam?

The purpose would not be to ask institutions to disclose confidential records publicly. It would be to ask them to circulate an approved missing-person notice internally, check whether lawful historical searches are possible, or direct the family to the correct authority.

3. Building a coordinated campaign

I would appreciate help from people experienced in:

  • Missing-person investigations
  • Russian bureaucracy
  • OSINT
  • Geographic analysis
  • Russian-language outreach
  • Data collection and deduplication
  • Facial age progression
  • Genealogy and DNA matching
  • Adoption and institutional-care records
  • Media or NGO campaigns in Russia

A useful project might include:

  • A ranked list of regions and institutions
  • Russian and English contact templates
  • A map of possible routes from Sochi
