Dial feet vs. Dial dots: What is your preference, and does it change your perception of quality?

Hey everyone!

I’ve been diving deep into custom dial making recently and wanted to open a quick discussion on a topic every builder encounters: Dial Attachment Method (Dial Feet vs. Dial Dots / Double-Sided Adhesive).

As someone making/working with custom dials, I’d love to get the community's perspective on a few points:

Practical Experience:

How many of you strictly refuse to use dial dots/double-sided tape and only buy/use dials with soldered/welded feet?

If you prefer feet, do you find trimming unused feet worth the extra hassle for multi-movement compatibility?

For those using high-quality adhesive dots, have you ever experienced long-term alignment shift or adhesive degradation, or has it been 100% reliable for you?

Perception & Value:

Does a dial feel cheaper or less professional to you if it comes without feet and relies on adhesive dots?

If you are purchasing an artisan or micro-batch custom dial (brass, silver, guilloché, custom finishes, etc.), would you expect integrated feet as a non-negotiable standard, or are you comfortable with dots if it means easier alignment during custom builds?

Alternative Solutions:

Have any of you successfully used soldering tools, dial foot soldering rigs, or cold-welding epoxy for custom feet with success without ruining the front finish?

Curious to hear your thoughts, experiences, and preferred workflows!

[nh35 ] Custom Guilloché-Inspired Dials & Bronze Cases

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share two new builds I recently completed. These are the 2nd and 3rd pieces from this personal project (I posted the 1st one a while back and received great feedback!).

For these, I designed and made the dials entirely from scratch. The geometric checkered pattern is diamond-drag engraved to replicate the depth and light play of classic French guilloché techniques. Both watches are built around the Seiko NH35 automatic movement. One features a warm, monochromatic tone-on-tone setup, while the other incorporates a contrasting blue bezel ring.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on how the patterns turn out under different lighting!

[NH35] Custom brass dial with a traditional Guilloché pattern inside a wooden presentation box

Hey everyone!

Following up on my previous post where I showed the complete watch build featuring this dial—since so many of you liked it and asked about it, I decided to share a closer look at the dial itself!

Here are the technical specs for anyone interested in the details:

Material: Horological brass (Ottone da orologeria)

Pattern: Engraved with a diamond tip to replicate the classic Guilloché aesthetic and capture light at different angles

Dimensions: 28.5 mm diameter, 0.4 mm thickness

The wooden display box has a custom laser engraving inside the lid (d'A) that turned out super crisp.

What do you think of how the pattern came out on its own? I'd love to hear your feedback!
