I've been seeing many posts in the other sub constantly shitting on Ellie for how she treated Joel, and I'm getting tired of it.
When part 2 haters claim to love the characters from the first game, 9 times out of 10 they just mean Joel. The only time they give a damn about Ellie is when she serves to make Joel happy. Why do you think they love the Birthday Gift flashback so much but hate the Hospital flashback, the Dance flashback, and the part of their final conversation where she calls him an asshole?
They don't see Ellie as her own character with her own goals. She's just Joel's new daughter, and as long as she's in lockstep with that role, they tolerate her. As soon as her goals and motivations don't service Joel or aren't in line with his, they don't give a shit.
