[BO2 Wii U DLC Porting: Part 6] Announcing Project: Black Ops 2 Unbound | First MP DLC Map Showcase

Well, it's been a time.

Since then, we've been thinking about our project scope, our goals and what would end up being the name of all of this.

After thinking it for a day, we got it.

The name for this community effort is Project: Black Ops 2 Unbound

It reflects our current scope of porting the cut maps as adding new content that never was planned to come to the Wii U version of the game.

In other news, thanks to our team member u/TonyAtCodeleakers, there's a video of the DLC map Grind running on Wii U, in the last section of the video linked below with the latest updates of the project.

We will be sharing news in this subreddit, the youtube channel and the discord server of the project, stay tuned for more news!

[BO2 Wii U DLC Porting: Part 5] First PC-Ported Map Showcase | Project Status Update #2

Hello again, it's been quite some time since I last posted something here

During this couple of weeks that I've been on a low profile we've expanded our team with new members, and restarted our research about fastfiles.

Things went pretty fast thanks to our team member u/TonyAtCodeleakers doing significant progress on our current tooling, he managed to port already a zone from the PC version of the Multiplayer portion of the game to Wii U, being the map Raid.

This is an importent step forward getting DLCs working, since most of this stuff may be (and will be) reused into porting those maps, as a reminder, our initial effort was to port Nuketown Zombies to Wii U, but since this has more potential than that, we're planning on getting MP DLC maps from the Revolution DLC ported since it may be easier than stepping straight to Zombies right now.

Can't speak much about further DLC development since the main focus of the project right now are the leftover DLCs that are recognized by the game executable, those being Nuketown Zombies and Revolution, but they shouldn't be impossible to do, just quite more complex, ^(at least there are mentions on the code to zm_prison and zm_buried.)

Here's a showcase he made with a video of the PC version of Raid ported to Wii U

I'll keep you guys updated once we have something relevant to post, I'll leave on the coments the server where I'll be sharing updates and discussing stuff about BO2 for Wii U, see ya on the next update!

[BO2 Wii U DLC Porting/Modding Part 4] Custom Textures + Project Status Update

Well, time for another update!

After experimenting with the IPAKs, I managed to put some custom textures in, I only tried this for Zombies (the Nuketown one) but it should be possible to do some custom camos and stuff with this, I'll try to do something with it and try to post it here soon.

For now, here's the custom texture I imported as a test: (image here)

random texture we decided to put as a test, courtesy of our team member: Priception

On the other part, I can confindently announce that we formed a team, 5 members with dedicated roles, this has truly improved our development process.

I'm currently working on with the shaders of the PC version of zm_nuked, don't expect seeing gameplay too soon but I'll try to keep you guys informed since yall really like this project : )

Expect another YouTube video about this on my youtube channel soon.

Until the next post.

[BO2 Wii U DLC Porting: Part 3] HELP NEEDED + IPAK FULLY WORKING!

hey there guys, after the progress made in the previous parts, the BO2 Wii U DLC restoration project has reached another important milestone.

^(funfact: it was done yesterday after i made the post but didn't had time to post it yesterday)

The biggest update: the DLC IPAK is now fully loading!

After working more on the files from the title screen, I managed to get the DLCZM0_LOAD_ZM.IPAK to load correctly, allowing the game to recognize and process more of the missing DLC assets. This is a big step forward compared to the previous state, where the IPAK could only load the map icon: Now it can load the loadscreen and the two background versions.

State of the Project:

  1. DLC audio files successfully ported
  2. DLC IPAK now fully loads
  3. DLC textures can be extracted and converted

However, this is where we need help.

The next major step is getting the actual map assets and the fastfiles working. We need more people with knowledge about:

  • Black Ops II / Engine formats
  • Fastfiles (.ff) MOST IMPORTANT
  • Map assets and zone files
  • Wii U reverse engineering (to work with shaders mainly)

The goal, for anyone who missed the last posts, is to restore the cancelled Wii U DLC and make it playable, starting with Nuketown Zombies, and eventually Die Rise and the DLC1 MP maps.

If you have experience with Call of Duty modding, reverse engineering, or Wii U development, any help would be appreciated.

discord: darkxlp115

Even small pieces of information about BO2's internal formats can help move this project forward.

thank you everyone for your support and kind words, you're really the reason I don't give up considering how hard is this : )

[BO2 Wii U DLC Porting: Part 2] IPAK now (partially) loads

Well, now the IPAK loads a bit better.

Yesterday, I reported that I was going to work on the IPAKs, the texture files where BO2 stores... it's textures (duh), well, now I got one partially to work.

I managed to extract the PC textures of dlczm0_load_zm.ipak, where the map selector + backgrounds + loading screen of Nuketown Zombies are stored, I tried to do a faithful conversion.

Well, the map selector image works, not the background or the loading screen (Well, I don't reach the loading screen due to the zm_nuked.ff file being missing, but I guess it won't load anyway.)

I'll try to work more onto this, I need to look for more members to work into this so we can form a team (we're currently just two guys doing this) to speed up development process, so if anyone knows about the Black Ops 2 formats for PC or Console and are interested into this project, any kind of help is welcome 😄

[BO2 Wii U DLC Porting: Part 1] AUDIO PORTING IS DONE AND REACHES LOADING SCREEN

tl;dr: found the loader file and managed to port out the missing audio files from Nuketown Zombies to Wii U, now the map at least tries to load, VIDEO BELOW.

In case you didn't saw my last post, I'm doing a research + reverse engineering over Black Ops 2's Wii U version scrapped DLC; long story short, DLC was planned and almost everything was already set up minus the actual map files.

After messing around downloading old updates for BO2, I noticed that in the TU's v16, v32 and v48 there was this file

dlczm0_load_zm.ff

holy fu-

I was looking to recreate this file for a while, it's supposed to be the loader for the DLCZM0 (Nuketown Zombies if you aren't aware), I tried when I first started this project back in February to recreate it but my attempts were awfully bad since I didn't had much experience.

After loading it, thinking it would produce a change into my BO2 (That is patched so the game actually displays both the two Nuketown and Die Rise maps as "available" to spoof the license check), it just crashed. After checking the Cemu logs, it said that zmb_nuked_real_intro.all.sabs was missing.

After spending a day figuring it out, I managed to port (in mono audio tho) the audio .FLAC file to the DSP audio format that Wii U uses and recreate the .sabs container file, the results for this now functional file are in the attached video.

What does it all mean? Well, now that we know that the rest of the audio banks are in the disc of the game, the audio part is ready, I need to tackle now the Fastfile and IPAKs portion of the porting process.

Wish me luck cause this is the hardest part, but at the same time I'm motivated to keep going until the map is finally playable on our Wii U's xD

BTW: Textures for the map selector aren't working just yet because of the missing dlczm0_load_zm.ipak
