We currently have an project of rescuing mices ( the small whites ones, usually used to feed snakes)

I do have experience with rats but not with mices, I'm learning before getting a few

I would like to know if there's an way to know their genders

If you're concerned by some details :

No I wouldn't buy them and support pet store

Yes I have all the time and money to take care of them

If I'm not wrong, male mices need to be alone in their cages, and it's okay I have plenty of room and appropriate cages for housing everyone.

my country is actually suffering from an huge heatwave, temperature can reach 38-39° and it can be very humid with no wind here

I always have been told that chickens can easily die because of heat ( I have all sort of breed but mostly layers )

And what I'm doing is that I keep them inside with.. AC 😂 ( not too cold tho) I am doing nice thing to them?

They are my pets as the same title as my dogs, I can spend $500 of vet for them, I can't afford to loose one JUST because of heat.

I had the bad idea to interact in the chicken sub reddit ( I own chickens)

And then someone spoke about the fact that they are very very sad about eating their own birds, but they have too many rooster who cause problems

So I just said "just put them in farm animal sanctuary" just this and I got down voted ??

Like if knowing that someone choose to spare animals is a sin

Also they said some bullshit like "but sanctuaries are overpopulated and if you give them those chickens, you remove the opportunity for another animals to get in"

Bitch, the sanctuaries are MADE FOR THIS, to avoid animals killed, even if it's for an rooster

I was wondering if there's better eggs for dogs than chickens eggs?

We own pigeons, quails, chickens, ducks ( all pets too!)

So me and my husband are vegan even tho he's more hardcore than me..

I can accept pets being fed meat food, even chickens eat bugs!

So our goal is to open an farm animal sanctuary, and I'm very into high security, every single one of our animals are dearest pets.

I will never accept any loss because of predators, we are okay to use self defense even if it's lethal..

But we cannot just be here 24/24 watching everyone, so I really, really want 2-3 livestock guarding dogs like kangals

Problem is that, for him the dogs have to be vegans, periods..

I'm not sure it can be an good idea, they are active and giant breed.. let's imagine that even if they can healthy on a vegan diet.. the amount of money it'll cost would be insane

And I refuse to have an farm if I cannot sleep peacefully at night because of potential predators eating my own animals

TW : pigeon deaths

I've rescued more than 10 pigeon in less than one year, most of the time they end up very well and I'm able to heal them

But.. some accidents happened recently and I'm now traumatized and feel like an irresponsible, almost abusive person toward them

Case one : one bird escaped from a perfectly fine cage, what I mean by "fine" is that the cage closed normally and didn't had any known issues, it was sold like that in the stores and I used it for 2 years without any problem...

The cage door was a sliding door and it was on the "roof" of the cage, and during one night one pigeon I kept in quarantine because she had an parasite, escaped idk how because I checked the cage before going to bed and it was closed.. I guess she flapped her wings enough until making it open, but she showed me a few time she was able to fly pretty high..

But when she escaped, we are asleep and didn't heard anything, for some reason she wasn't able to fly like usual and my 4 puppies toyed with her, and when I saw this I ran to the vet but she had to be euthanized

In the same week : I was feeding an young one, around 14 days old, and yesterday she choked and the vet couldn't do anything

( I didn't really had experience in feeding young birds, someone from the wildlife rehab where I am volunteering, trained me.. 15 minutes, and it worked because I fed two birds until they go old enough to eat alone..)

They gave me pigeons because they refuse to take care of them so they need volunteers for pigeons.

I told them I couldn't take more but they kept spamming me with new birds who need help, I felt forced to take them since no one else would.

I feel terrible for those accidents and need a break from rescuing..
