Indian travelling solo to Phuket — Do I need ฿20,000 in cash, or can I use INR/card?

I’m travelling solo to Phuket for 5 days on an Indian passport, and I’m a little confused about the proof-of-funds requirement at Thai immigration.

I’ve read that I may need to show ฿20,000 as proof of sufficient funds. However, I’m not comfortable exchanging such a large amount into Thai baht when I’ll be there for only 5 days. I’m considering carrying ฿10,000 in Thai baht and the equivalent of another ฿10,000 in Indian rupees (INR) or USD.

My questions are:
Can I split the required amount between ฿10,000 in Thai baht and the equivalent amount in INR?

Does the entire amount have to be in physical cash, or can I show a debit/credit card and bank statement for the remaining funds?

Has anyone travelling on an Indian passport recently been asked to show proof of funds at Phuket immigration? What did they accept?

17–21 October -Phi Phi overnight or island day trips?

I’m planning a solo trip to Phuket from 17th–21st October and will be staying in Patong.

Originally, I was planning to visit Phi Phi Island and stay overnight, in my previous post where quite a few of you recommended it for the nightlife and overall experience. But some of you also mentioned that Phi Phi can be absolutely crazy and crowded.

I’ve seen so many comments about the crowds, not just during the day but even early in the morning. I was also considering staying overnight and taking a long-tail boat from Phi Phi, but as a solo traveller, that seems quite expensive, and I couldn’t really find small group tours from Phi Phi that I could book.

Since I’m only in Phuket for a few days, I don’t want to spend the whole trip rushing around or constantly changing hotels.

I’ve been looking into some alternative day trips from Phuket through Klook and GetYourGuide, and these caught my attention:

1. Similan Islands
2. Racha Yai / Racha Noi
3. Koh Yao Yai / Koh Yao Noi
4. Coral Island

So I’m trying to decide between a few options:

Option 1: Stay overnight at Phi Phi Island and spend the rest of the trip in Phuket.

Option 2: Stay one night at Phi Phi Island and do one day trip from Phuket.

Option 3: Skip Phi Phi and stay in Phuket, doing two good day trips from there.

I’m not looking to pack everything into four days. If I do a group tour, I’m also not looking for massive groups or anything super rushed. I understand that popular islands will have tourists and boats can have quite a few people, but ideally I’d prefer a small-group or semi-private tour if possible.

So what would you recommend?

Would you prefer staying overnight at Phi Phi, or is it better to stay in Phuket and do day trips?

And if you’ve done any of these day trips, which ones would you recommend?

Any suggestions for good small-group/semi-private tours would also be really appreciated!

Can anyone help me find a sponsored Interior Design role in the UK?

I’ve been trying to find an Interior Designer role in the UK since February, so it’s been about 7 months now, and honestly, I’m finding it really difficult.

I previously worked in the UK on my Postgraduate visa and had to return to India because of the sponsorship issue. I’m now trying to find a way back, but the sponsorship requirement has made the whole process so much harder.

I have around 5.5 years of experience, mainly in high-end residential interior design, and I’ve worked with some really good companies and on high-end projects. I’m also currently working on high-end residential projects here in India, so I’m continuing to build my experience.

I really miss the UK market and would genuinely love to go back and continue my career there. I’ve been applying, reaching out to recruiters and studios, etc., but so far it just hasn’t worked out.

So if anyone knows of interior design studios that sponsor, companies currently hiring, recruiters who work with sponsored candidates, or even someone I could contact for a referral, I’d really appreciate it.

At this point, even a small lead or someone pointing me in the right direction would mean a lot. 😭

If you know anyone in the industry who might be able to help, please do let me know. Thank you!

Has anyone ever invested in TVS Motor Company? What’s your take on it?

I’m planning to invest in it, it’s 1 year returns seems pretty good.
Also from last 6 months it was in gains only (even during war)

I have recently started looking at shares, and this is something I noticed.

I have recently started looking at shares, and something I noticed is that 5-year returns can be misleading because they include the COVID crash and recovery. Maybe it makes more sense to look at 1-year returns, returns before those 5 years, or how the share performed during the last 6 months.

Review my ₹50k/month SIP allocation & help me choose funds (10–20 years)

I’m 27 and earn ₹1 lakh/month (in hand). I’m planning to start investing for the long term and would appreciate your feedback before I begin.

  1. Risk Appetite- Moderately. I’m comfortable with market volatility and temporary drawdowns since my investment horizon is long.
  2. Investment Goal- Wealth creation through long-term investing.
  3. Investment Horizon- 10–20 years.
  4. Allocation Details

Monthly income: ₹1,00,000. Current monthly allocation:

₹10,000 – Personal expenses
₹5,000 – Existing RD (already ongoing)
₹25,000 – Emergency fund until I build ₹5–6 lakh
₹10,000 – Reserved for IPO applications
₹50,000 – Mutual Fund SIPs

Planned SIP allocation (₹50,000/month)
₹20,000 – Nifty 50 (40%)
₹10,000 – Nifty Next 50 (20%)
₹10,000 – Flexi Cap (20%)
₹5,000 – Mid Cap (10%)
₹5,000 – Small Cap (10%)

  1. Which App Do You Use?
I’m still deciding between Groww and Zerodha for long-term investing.

  2. Why I Selected These Funds
Based on my research and the current market, I wanted a portfolio with a strong index core while adding some active funds for potentially higher long-term returns. I haven’t finalized the funds yet and I’m open to changing them if there are better options.

Funds I’m considering
Nifty 50
UTI Nifty 50 Index Fund
SBI Nifty 50 Index Fund

Nifty Next 50
ICICI Prudential Nifty Next 50 Index Fund
Navi Nifty Next 50 Index Fund

Flexi Cap
Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund
HDFC Flexi Cap Fund
Kotak Flexicap Fund

Mid Cap
HDFC Mid Cap Fund
WhiteOak Capital Mid Cap Fund

Small Cap
SBI Small Cap Fund
Nippon India Small Cap Fund
Bandhan Small Cap Fund

Contra Fund (instead of Flexi Cap?)
Invesco India Contra Fund

Sectoral/Thematic (optional)
HDFC Defence Fund

I’m considering HDFC Defence Fund because of India’s increasing focus on defence manufacturing and spending, but I’m unsure whether a sectoral fund is a good idea for a long-term core portfolio.

I’m also considering reducing my emergency fund contribution from ₹25k/month to ₹20k/month and investing the extra ₹5k into HDFC Defence Fund. Not sure if that’s sensible or if I should complete my emergency fund first.

Questions
- Is my ₹50k SIP allocation appropriate for a 10–20 year investment horizon?
- Which specific funds would you choose from my shortlist?
- Would you choose a Flexi Cap or Invesco India Contra Fund?
- Is HDFC Defence Fund worth including, or should I avoid sectoral funds?
- Would you choose Groww or Zerodha?
- Would you keep ₹25k/month towards the emergency fund until ₹5–6 lakh is complete, or reduce it to ₹20k/month and invest the extra ₹5k.

What’s wrong with the crowd??

It’s been over 4 years now, I haven’t dated anyone. I have been speaking to people on apps, but nothing really works. I’m born and bought up in Delhi, people I see online are mostly from other states. No offence but I’m really not interested in people from other states.

Rest people from Delhi I speak to, still haven’t grown up or what but most of them are looking for casual. I’m
Not sure where to find right man. It kind of feels lonely sometimes when you don’t have anyone to speak your heart to.

Going to the Sunday Book Market tomorrow, need romance & self-development book recommendations!

I’m planning to go to the Daryaganj in Delhi Sunday Book Market tomorrow and thought I’d ask for some recommendations before I end up buying random books 😅

I’m mostly into romance novels. A few years ago, I read quite a lot of Colleen Hoover, Anna Huang, and Emily Henry, but I’ve been out of touch with new releases for a while. I’d love some recommendations that’s emotional, addictive, heartwarming, or just a really good read. I’m open to pretty much anything.

I’m also thinking of picking up a couple of self-development books. The problem is that I’ve tried reading self-help books before and usually end up getting bored halfway through. Atomic Habits is already on my list, but I’d love suggestions for books on mindset, psychology, productivity, or personal growth that are genuinely interesting and easy to get into.

Thank you
