Adding a recovery email seems to have made my Microsoft account passwordless

I have a Microsoft account that I normally sign into using a password, SMS verification and the Microsoft Authenticator app.

Recently, Microsoft forced me to add another email address to the account, so I did. However, ever since adding it, when I try to log in, Microsoft immediately wants to send a verification code to that newly added email address. It doesn’t even ask me for my password first.

Basically, it seems like adding the email has turned my account into a passwordless account, even though the passwordless option is turned off in my Microsoft account settings.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to make Microsoft ask for my password again and keep the new email as just a recovery/security method?
Any idea what’s going on?

What's the Best Way to Secure a Microsoft Account Now?

Microsoft has announced that they are stopping
SMS MFA and account notifications, so I decided to move to the Microsoft Authenticator app.
But the Authenticator app isn't giving me a normal
TOTP code. It only sends a push notification and asks me to choose a number to approve the sign in.

I also had to add another email address just to access my account security settings. Once added, Microsoft seems to make that email the main login by trying to send a code there and skipping the password.

I then tried creating another Microsoft account, but that also required an existing email address, so l ended up having to use the email from my original account just to create the new one and access the security settings.

What is the best way to properly secure a Microsoft account now? I'm considering using a YubiKey instead. I'm also thinking about moving my email over to Proton, as this whole Microsoft setup is becoming quite confusing

Unexpected Instagram Security Code Sent to My Three PAYG Number

About four months ago, I got a Three PAYG SIM and activated it. Yesterday at 23:15, I received a text from Facebook containing a security code for Instagram. The message said not to share the code.

The strange thing is that I don’t have a Facebook or Instagram account, so I’m wondering whether there could already be an account linked to this phone number.

Could this be because the number was previously owned by someone else, or is there another explanation for why I received the code?

Ford Tourneo Custom overheating + A/C fan issue

Hi everyone, hoping someone with experience on the 2.0 TDCi Tourneo Custom might be able to point me in the right direction, because I’m completely lost at this point.

I’ve got a 2018 Ford Tourneo Custom 2.0 TDCi.

A while ago, the van started overheating while sitting at a standstill. It only happened that once and then never did it again. However, since that happened, the A/C stopped working. I didn’t really investigate at the time as I didn’t need the A/C.

Recently I wanted to get the A/C working again, so I took it to a mechanic. We found an A/C pipe had blown off and a whole section needed replacing. That was replaced and the system was regassed, but the A/C still didn’t work.

Since then, we’ve also replaced:
A/C compressor
Condenser
Pressure switch
A/C fan

After another regas, the A/C finally started working. The fan was also found not to be kicking in, which is why it was replaced.

The A/C then worked perfectly for around 2 weeks.

Now the overheating problem has happened again. I immediately switched the A/C off and noticed that the fan is not kicking in when the A/C is turned on, just like before.

I’m now wondering whether the fan/electrical control issue could have caused the original overheating and potentially contributed to the A/C problems, and whether whatever is causing the fan not to run is still there and has now caused the same issue again.

At this point I’ve spent quite a bit replacing A/C components, and I don’t want to keep replacing parts without finding the actual fault.

Has anyone experienced anything similar on these vans?

Could it be a wiring/relay/fuse/module/ECU issue, or something controlling the fan that we’ve missed?

Any ideas or advice on where to look next would be massively appreciated. Thanks

Chase rejected me

Applied for a Chase current account, but it didn’t auto approve me. Got an email the next day saying they can’t open one.

I only have one other current account with TSB. The only thing I can think of is an old young person’s savings account from when I was a child, still linked to my old address. It was never used or updated.
I called TSB today and they said it would have automatically changed to a regular savings account when I turned 16, but it’s now locked until I go in and verify my ID.

Could this have anything to do with Chase rejecting me? I thought savings accounts don’t affect your credit file. Going into TSB on Monday to sort it anyway.

Anyone had something similar?

How long to verify new current account

Hi, I opened a new current account through the Chase app and verified my identity using my driving licence. After that, the app said that the checks were taking a little longer than expected and that they would let me know by text message. It also said the process could take up to 7 days. Has anyone gone through this instead of the instant approval?

My license photo is kind of dark and my face looks tiny is this why maybe?

Thank you in advance.

How to reduce heat in conservatory

Hi all, I could do with some advice.

I've got a south facing conservatory with an opal polycarbonate roof and in this hot weather it's reaching around 40°C inside. I've already fitted radiator foil to the windows, which has helped a bit but the roof is still letting in a huge amount of heat.

I'd like to fit a shade sail, netting or some sort of external shading over the roof, but I don't have any obvious fixing points to attach it to.

My current idea is to drill four eye hooks into the uPVC frame, one at each corner. Then use those to tie a shade over the roof. I'm not sure if that's a good idea though or whether drilling into the frame could cause problems.

Has anyone done something similar or can suggest a better way of fixing external shading?

Any tips or advice would be much appreciated.
