The Sites That Have Worked For Me In Mexico

I recently relocated from the US to Mexico, was happy to move, but sad to lose access to some of my beer money apps. So now that I've been back at beer money from a new location, here is a summary of the things that carried over, as well as the ones I started using and have made money with.

Apps That Carried Over

Amazon Shopper Panel

Now this one surprised me, but Amazon has a receipt scanning app where you link your account and you can upload receipts to get a little bit of money as Amazon credit at the end of the month. To get in, you should download the app and apply, as there may be a waitlist. In my case, since I registered in the US, my Mexican receipts will scan for USD and go to my Amazon US account, so I mainly use them for Kindle. If you register in Mexico, you will almost certainly get MXN instead. Reward ratios are about $0.10 per grocery receipt, and $0.7 for clothes stores and hardware stores. I definitely recommend it, since It's low effort for a nice direct payout. You'll also have occasional short surveys for an extra $0.1 or $0.25

Google Opinion Rewards

My OG, Google Opinion Rewards gives you credit to your Google Play balance (on Android at least) for answering different surveys based on your google search history and location history. Works just fine in many countries, and you have to make sure to change your country in Google Play to have it show up in the new currency. Go to your app store and get it, It's similar to OnePulse where you get a bit of credit for almost no time spent.

OnePulse

Now OnePulse is one of the few survey apps that I'd categorize as very worth it. The surveys are usually 15-40 second surveys and rewards start at $0.10 USD per survey, but scale up if you respond to other surveys that aren't for money. I'm earning $0.29 USD per survey now, and I am able to cash out $20 every month or other month via PayPal. You can only cash out $20 once per month, for a maximum of around $240 per year in USD, the first time it will take a while, then eventually It'll scale up. I set this up while in the US, and I know It's US and UK compatible, but I get my survey notifications outside of the US without any issues, and as long as you have a PayPal, you'll be able to cash out fine. You just need an email to sign up, and I don't remember needing a phone with them at all.

If you want to use my referral code, download the app on the App Store or Google Play and use code 2HML7L

PrimeOpinion

PrimeOpinion was one of the better survey/GP2 apps in the US, It's not as good in Mexico on desktop, but It's okay if you have the app on mobile. I was able to contact support and get my country switched the same day. The surveys definitely earn a similar amount, surprisingly enough, and you have a few offers for things like apps and games to top that off. It has a similar ratio of 100 coins = $1 USD. You can cash out through PayPal international starting at 116 coins or a variety of gift cards, of which there are a lot available in Mexico.

If you wanna use my referral code, use code UFS8IN within 24 hours of signing up.

PlaytestCloud

Playtesting games is fun and can be a good way to kill a bit of time while making a bit of money. With PlaytestCloud, you'll have a few tests available once in a blue moon if you're in Latin America, since most of their tests are for the US/UK/Australia, and when they are available you'll have to make sure to jump on them soon, or the test will have filled up. They do have an app that's decent at notifying you when a playtest is available, and they tend to be more widely available at the very early hours of the morning. Usual rates are $9 for 15 minutes, $11 for 30, or $16+ for an hour worth of playtesting, with a few that pay more and are done over a few days, and you'll get a redemption link about 72 hours after finishing your playtest.

New Apps That I Liked

NiceQuest

Nicequest has occasional surveys that give you the apps currency called Korus (KR), you can redeem KR for actual real world items such as little gadgets (a mixer, a fan, a selfie light, movie tickets, etc). You can earn about 5 KR per day, and you get a notification whenever a new survey is available, which realistically means you'll get, for example, a fan that costs 700 KR in about 140 days, or 3.5 months, or alternatively, a movie ticket that costs 55 KR in only 11 days! This isn't terrible, for actually getting a fan sent to you, or for getting movie tickets in exchange. Once again, it meets my principle of low effort for these rewards.

PollPay

This one seems a little more EU focused, as it has Amazon cards for DE, IT, and ES in Euros, or PayPal in Euros, however, you can still get some money sent to an MX PayPal or elsewhere that accepts PayPal, minus conversion fees. It's worth checking out and seeing if you get surveys in your locale, as I do get them in Mexico.

Non referral link

If you're interested in trying it out, and want to use my referral link, you can sign up through https://www.pollpay.app/?rb=MA81bNbm4IspZzqI&rp=1

Cheaf

Similar to Too Good To Go, Cheaf is an app where, at least in Mexico City, you can take a bag with lots of food that wasn't sold that day, mainly from bakeries, and it helps that Mexican bakeries are delicious! It's an okay way to save money and get a bag of goodies, and I feel like it can help others.

Card Shark: Harder Than Dark Souls

Card Shark was HARD.

It's essentially a minigame collection, based on real cheating tricks that were used in card games. It's set in France before the revolution and has a story you follow while cheating at cards and beating your opponents to progress the story.

At the same time, the difficulty is quite unforgiving, in the sense that each time you're introduced to increasingly complex tricks that you're expected to perform as fast as possible, otherwise other characters become suspicious and can call you out on the cheating. Sometimes, It's even better to throw a round in order to bring their suspicion down than just win all possible rounds and money. I found myself really racing against the clock trying to memorize the pattern of the tricks with my controller, as well as trying to do them well and fast.

Seriously, I think I struggled with this more than when I played the DS games, and that's still a compliment, since the minigames come with plenty of breaks in between.

It also has a fantastic art style, truly a sight to look at, paired with a decent sense of humor that makes up for a story that's very on rails and you feel like you have zero way to influence, making it much more like a minigame visual novel than anything else.

On sale, It's a fantastic deal, and I really think it made for a decent "brain puzzle" game for me, getting me ready for the old folks home in 60 years. Perhaps then I'll play it again to keep my memory and hand-eye coordination sharp.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations - Lessons In Nostalgia

I have great memories of playing AC 1, 2, and Brotherhood when I was in my tweens/teens. I also have great memories of playing AC 3 and Black Flag later on. The only game missing in that sequence was Revelations, or the game I couldn't afford to buy/didn't have friends to lend me on my 360 as a kid.

So of course I bought it, and the thing is, 15 years later, perhaps what was once cool to me just isn't as cool. And when I play the games I wanted to play as a kid now as a fully grown adult, I realize that for every Fallout: New Vegas that makes me think of it for a long time after finishing, there's always a Homefront or Ryse: Son of Rome, where there's just no substance to it.

AC: Revelations sits somewhere in the middle. The gameplay is quite fun, and refines the AC 2 formula to a great point in terms of climbing and parkour, and gives you just enough combat and escape options to make you feel very in control, while having a story that is interesting but didn't manage to grip me the way AC 2 or Black Flag did.

One of the reasons why has definitely more to do with character development, where AC 2 took the bulk of developing Ezio as a character, and Brotherhood/Revelations pretty much work more as DLC with more gameplay. Ezio is pretty much developed and done in Revelations, and the only piece of extra development here is him being ready to settle down romantically, and finding Altair's secrets being the last piece of his career before that.

Altair's memories are great to bring closure to his character, but the time skips have so much missing in-between that it really makes me wish they remade some of the PSP/mobile game missions that you're supposed to know about. All of this also feels interrupted by missions related to the assassin/templar feuds in Istanbul at the time, but which end up being much less interesting than the Ezio/Altair portions. The Desmond/present day sections are as boring as always, and broken on PC unless you go through the pains of recovering deleted files. Not worth talking much about.

All of this gets added to the fact that, over the years, perhaps the allure of violence in games has faded and often becomes excessive (blowing up a whole city like you do in one section of Revelations is much less impressive than a story of how a tragedy affects a single person). Edgy Assassin's Creed phrases such as "nothing is true, everything is permitted" also sound less cool now. Perhaps It's growing up, or perhaps this game was never a 10/10 game, both can be true at the same time. I don't regret the 20ish hours it took me to beat this game with some degree of completion, but I also think I can see where nostalgia ends, and where I have changed along the road.

Cost Effective Online MBA Options - Europe

Hi all, I'm someone who has ~4 years of work experience in the USA now but may need to take a hiatus from work for various reasons. I figured a decent way to keep myself busy is do an online MBA (or master's degree, but MBA definitely is what interests me the most). Here's a breakdown of my options that I've looked at so far. I want it from a European institution since I already have US degrees for undergrad and grad school, and my wife is European so we'll be looking to relocate in a few years. I speak Portuguese, Spanish, and have a defensible level of Italian.

These seem to be the most cost effective but also accredited programs that are from a country where I do speak the language or see myself getting more fluent soon enough. They also accept the amount of non-executive working experience I have I'd appreciate any feedback from anyone who has either done these programs or heard much about them.

Note that I also disqualified ESMT Berlin since German friends have told me MBAs aren't really recognized in Germany (and I don't know German), and EADA Business School since I missed the application deadline but also it seems to not have much recognition outside of Barcelona.

1. University of Liverpool

Triple crown accredited and seems to have a really solid alumni network and global name recognition. Cost is around $33,300 USD, with a possible 15% discount from either an executive scholarship or regional scholarship. Also seems like the standard track takes about 2 years, but has flexibility to extend if needed.

2. Porto Business School

Also triple crown accredited, looks like it has a big focus on tech/AI and innovation (I come from the tech field), cost is around $32,800 USD with no scholarships I really qualify for. Looks also like the Católica in Portugal has more prestige with MBAs from the research I've done, but no online option there. Standard track takes 17 months.

3. MIB Trieste School of Management

The Italian option that looks the most cost effective, with a cost of around $32,800 USD but with a possibility of reducing tuition by 20-30% from scholarships. Standard track takes 2 years. However, despite the Triple Crown, the research I've done into Italy seems like MBAs there are very much Bocconi or nothing, so I'd be weary of it being more "wasted" here in terms of reputation, and if I wanted to go with Italy I could do an online MBA with Unimarconi that, while not triple crown accredited, would get me an Italian degree for $6500 USD -> https://uniathena.com/master-of-business-administration

4. University of Bradford

Another UK option with triple crown accreditation, with a cost of $28,700 USD but little to no scholarship options for online MBA students. Also seems like an established UK brand, but reviews have been very spotty to almost non-existent. Seems like a decent option if I want to vary the amount of years it takes (if I get busier later on).

5. The Alternative Route

Do a Micromasters from MIT (Supply Chain Management or Finance?) and RIT (Project Management), go for Scrum Master certifications, perhaps the MBA from UniMarconi for the European flair. All of that will add up to perhaps $9,000 USD, but will require much more organization from my part. If I want to "check the box", perhaps I check a whole lot of boxes and instead show that I like to further my education and knowledge, but still in that general management direction.

I'd appreciate any and all feedback about any of these programs or routes from people who know or have any insight into them, or just general feedback! Hope you have a great day!

Rant De Decisiones Complicadas Migratorias/De Relación

Buenas tardes gente,

Aprecio cualquier ayuda, ¡Gracias!
