Duo rescued by helicopter after canoe loss

I'm mildly surprised this doesn't happen more often - not so much due to canoe loss, but to severe injuries. My nightmare is a fall with bad leg injury deep in an area with no cell service. I want folks to be self reliant but am glad something like this exists.

"Two Minnesotans trapped in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness were hoisted into a helicopter in a bold nighttime maneuver last week by a team that has become increasingly vital to rescue efforts across the state.

The Minnesota Air Rescue Team (MART) found the canoeists — stranded and soaked after their canoe capsized in frigid waters — and slung rope from hundreds of feet above to reach the pair and bring them to an airport dozens of miles away.

Both canoeists were uninjured and are expected to be OK."

Gravel Bike Routes

Coming for Memorial Day, staying in Sister Bay. Trying to decide whether to bring gravel bike or road bike. Preference is for gravel, but my brief research has indicated there doesn't appear to be much around. I'm looking to do 80-100 miles and am OK if less than half of it is on gravel as long as I can stay away from cars. Or you can just tell me to bring the road bike! Thanks.

HRV question - sudden increase?

So my HRV is shit. 34 is a good night, 28 not uncommon. I hear about people having 80+, and have briefly looked into "ways to increase HRV" which hasn't revealed much other than changing my instagram ads. HOWEVER, I recently went camping, and both nights I was in the 40s. This is despite me never feeling like I sleep all that great outside - we camp a decent amount and I've yet to find an air mattress that really cuts it. Any ideas on an explanation? I will accept:

  1. Maybe the fresh air is good for you?

  2. You mattress at home is too soft

  3. You sleep better in the cold (usual bedroom temp 65, this was ~35)

  4. Just listen to your body and throw the stupid watch in the ocean

As you can see from the photo, the yellow portion of the Luce Line trail is closed. As in, the bridges are out, full stop you are not getting through. You can seem in orange my ad-hoc detour but it’s not very bike friendly (and may have involved someone’s backyard). You WILL NOT learn this information from the Hennepin Co or Three Rivers websites, both of which have info about closures but NOT this one. Doesn’t look at all temporary either.
