Kiwi compliment culture

I'm a 21F international student from Asia, so appearance mean a lot to me.

I work as a dental receptionist and today a lady in their 50s was on the phone while also checking in for her appointment and she said "hang on, let me just talk to this beautiful girl for a sec".

I feel like Kiwis don't put that much emphasis on appearances. So I can't tell if this is genuine or if this is something along the line of "thank you, sweetheart".

It's kinda weird that she used the word 'beautiful'. I feel like 'pretty' would be more suitable for everyday conversational speech. Am I overthinking?

EDIT: thank you to everyone for your comments. This was a genuine post spiraling from overthinking (not fishing for compliment) and really wanted to know if it was a Kiwi way of speaking or not. As it's uncommon to experience something like this in English speaking countries as pointed out by some redditors.

From re-reading my post, i don't see how i was "complaining about being called beautiful" as that was definitely not my intention.

how to support orthodontist partner?

I'm a med student (25F) and my partner (33M) is an orthodontist who has recently acquired his own practice. With the age gap and how we both have a really busy life, what's the best way to show my affection without putting too much pressure on him or seem too needy? I feel like this acquisition is consuming him alive, but maybe this is just a phase...

I was his patient during residency (4 years ago), but we've only been official for a year and we don't live together. We used to see each other at least 3 times a week and now it's just once a week. I feel really bad because I can see how exhausted he is after work and I don't want to make date night seem like a chore for him, and I can also tell that he can see that too.

And maybe this should be post on r/relationship instead but, I feel like he might want to propose once everything has settle down and I really like him (my first relationship) - I don't know if marriage/having children is my thing but I know he will be fine if I say no, but still be hurt and I don’t want that kind of resentment to build up but I don’t wanna leave him during this vulnerable time either (would it be worst if I break things up later?).

Advice: pre-owned small lady reverso classic?

Hi, I'm about to start an intermdiate-entry job soon, I've never owned a watch before and I really want a reverso (this has been on my mind for over a year)! But not sure if it will be a responsible financial decision to make right now.

I have a really reALLY small wrist; width ~45mm and cirumference of 135mm.

What case size/L2L would be the most appropriate for me? I'm thinking of buying them over Chrono24 since I live in an area with no JLC store - so can't try on.

And also, metal vs leather strap?

behind the scene process

just for interest, do we have any health professional/people who work in the office that know what are the process behind the jaw planning e.g. how/when the splint is made, how the surgeon assessed that the patient is ready, the process behind booking the patient in for the surgery, conversation between the staff about the patient's case etc. Or anything else interesting related to the behind the curtain that a typical patient wouldn't know.

Maxxing out Tigerbroker vs Simplicity high growth??

New investor here, I have $6k in Tigerbroker (70% QQQM & 30% VOO) and $7k in %) high growth.

My goal is to build wealth - timeframe: 10-20 years.

Should I be maxxing on one platform first (e.g. TB to ~$40k to be under FIF threshold) or split evenly between the two?

Does it matter?

Is now a good time to switch to Kernel's Kiwisaver plan?

I'm 22, started with Medical Assurance Society as my Kiwisaver provider because all my colleague was with them - now moving to another job. Also, have a high growth fund with Simplicity, I'm thinking of changing to Kernel; is this a good idea?

Do I just sign up with Kernel and they will do the talking with MAS or do I need to do something else too?

Getting work done at dental school is cheap because the student co-pay for them?

I heard that braces and wisdom teeth extraction is a lot cheaper compared to private because the postgrad student pay out of pocket for their patient's work. Someone told me to try and have a good relationship with my postgrad because they decide how much % to help co-pay for the treatment. Is this true?

Tips for hospital internship?

Hi all, I have my first EVER interview this coming Monday for hospital internship. I base in New Zealand, so after our BPharm degree - we go into 1 year full time internship then have a "board exam" at the end to become register.

Any tips on what I should revise for the potential clinical questions they might ask, or how should I answer "why are you choosing hospital pharmacy instead of community/retail?"

Many thanks,
