Do people in your life understand your relationship with your nparent?

I think one of the hardest parts is having people who grew up with emotionally secure and healthy parents understand narcissistic abuse.

I remember growing up, my mom would treat me like the golden child in public so that she could point and say what a great parent they are, but as soon as we stepped in that house, the mask would come off.

I remember when I was telling my best friend about some of the crazy experiences that I’ve had, he couldn’t believe it. It’s something that is so removed from healthy family relationships.

This was until one day we were driving in my car and my nmom calls. I put the phone on through the car and gesture to him to be quiet.

She immediately goes into cussing me out and berating me (for what I can even remember). I let her just go on and on verbally accosting me.

My friend was shocked. He said he had never been talked to like that by anyone, let alone his parents. He is such a great friend, who really helped me when I didn’t think I was going to make it.

I know that some people don’t like bad vibes on a trip, but when I’m solo tripping I love to watch fucked up and challenging movies. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Former boss character letter

Hey everyone,

My former manager (CFO) was fired from her job last Thursday.

I am not privy to the reasons why.

Today she sent me a text: “Hi. I am working on a grievance and was wondering if you would write a letter about my character and how I was as a manager? If so I will send you my email address. Thank you.”

I never had any issues with her as my manager and I found her to be pleasant enough to work with, but my gut reaction is to not write this letter. I have not responded to the text.

I am nervous that if things become litigious that I will be caught in the fray.

Should I go to HR and tell them that she has reached out with that request?

Should I just ignore it? Help!

NOBODY ASKED!

Does your narc love to give unsolicited advice about everything?

My least favorite is when she try’s to give advice on things that are going on at my work.

She has no idea about anything that I do. She’s not qualified to do the type of work that I do. She has never worked in a similar field, but my god does she know best.

Spikes in middle of night sleeping

Hi y’all,

I finally caved in and got a CGM, and one thing that I’ve been noticing is that I’m having blood sugar spikes in the middle of the night while I’m sleeping.

For example yesterday I broke my fast at 8:00 PM and ate a very large meal. I went from 79 to 145 BG two hours after eating. My BG went back down to 85 by 1:00 AM, but then spiked back up to 125 between 1:00 AM and 2:30 AM.

I’m aware of the dawn phenomenon and I always get that, but are there other things that could cause a spike just in the middle of the night?

Buddhism has helped with my family relationships.

Hi everyone,

I hope that this ok to post here.

Buddhism and the Dharma has helped mend our fractured family.

My mother’s side of our family has had a long history of generational trauma and dysfunction. Naturally, all of that trickled down to my mother and then to me and our family.

I won’t go into the details of that all, but our upbringings were not great.

When we were at our worst, I truthfully hated my mother. We became estranged for many years after I went off to college and I fell into a deep depression.

I found Buddhism many years later and as I was ingesting all of this new information and starting to practice, my mother noticed how much more vibrant, content, and kind that I had become recently.

When I told her about Buddhism, she became really interested, because she said she would like to work on feeling better as well.

At the time I was listening to Ajahn Sona Dharma talks and we took time to listen to them together and they really resonated with her as well.

Fast forward a couple of years and my mother got enough courage to tackle her mental health through medical assistance while implementing Buddhist values and things have been so different.

Recently I took a new Job that is near my childhood home and my mother offered for me to move back in while I get settled.

At first I was honestly apprehensive at first because of the way that we used to be at each others throats through a majority of my life.

Since being back and closer together, we are both more mindful, we don’t rise in anger towards each other, we are kinder, we use right speech (most of the time lol).

I’m able to help my parents financially and around the house as they get old in age.

I know I’m rambling, but to sum it up: I’m glad that Buddhism has given me and my mom the courage and mindfulness to amend our relationship. I don’t think it would have happened otherwise.

I know we shouldn’t necessarily expect things from our practice, but this to me has been one of the most beautiful byproducts of practicing.

Even if I don’t gain any sort of attainment or realizations in this life, I am so grateful that I was able to accomplish having a safe and healthy relationship with my mom.

Many thanks to the Buddha and all of the Venerables

Can you feel when your blood sugar is elevated?

I was wondering if anyone in here can feel when their blood sugar is elevated?? If so, what level do you start feeling that something isn’t right?

In my case, I feel like I can always start to feel it when I reach 135+.

I start getting that horrible brain fog and it feels like I’m a soda bottle and someone just shook me up.

New direct report is communicating too much.

Hi everyone,

I have been promoted into a new position where I will be managing 4 Project managers and 1 supervisor.

I have served alongside these other 4 PM’s for the last four years and there has been no issues as I’ve stepped into my new supervisory role, but I am struggling a little bit with my 1 supervisor.

After working with him the last couple of weeks I have gathered that he is really defensive about things and will write me back lengthy e-mails( 3-4 paragraphs) when I am giving simple tasks/feedback. As a result I want to make sure that I don’t cause him to get defensive when I ask him to cut down on some of the over-communication.

How do I approach this? He used to report to a different director under a different department and maybe this was the culture they had?

For example, this last week he sent me a 4 paragraph email about one of his direct reports being sick. I did not ask for anything regarding this, he knows our PTO policy etc.

This morning he sent multiple paragraphs about what work he is delegating to some of his employees and that he had to take care of some personal business.

Food noise eliminated.

One of my favorite- if not the favorite -side effect of this diet. The elimination of FOOD noise.

I have struggled with binge eating my entire life since I was an adolescent. If I wasn’t currently binging, then I was dreaming about the next one, or planning them out.

The food noise was non-stop from the time that I woke up until I would pass out at night.

It feels so good to not feel this way anymore. I am so grateful that I am no longer eating to the point of sickness.

Do people avoid you?

Hi y’all,

I was wondering if anyone else could relate to this?

I was wondering if people can tell that something isn’t quite right with me?

I’m at my family reunion that we have every two year for my dads side of the family and I’ve been going to it for the last 4 times.

Every time that I go, I feel like I get ostracized.

People don’t approach me, if I try to converse with them, I can tell they just want to get away.

They’ll greet or say goodbye to everyone and then just walk past me without saying anything, and some of them genuinely roast me.

I feel like I’m a nice person, not that I’m entitled to have people be nice back to me.

I feel like I just I walk around trying to fit in somewhere I shouldn’t be.

I feel like I’m trying to engage with them. I hang out and go to all the activities and I am trying, but I don’t know.

I’ve been absolutely dysregulated this whole week. Horrible dreams, constant anxiety, and horrible horrible sleep.

Sorry for the rambling yall. I just wish things were different.

Is there anything that can help with having keto breath? This is the only thing about keto that sucks for me. I CANNOT Stand it. Maybe I’m being overly paranoid, but I just feel like people are going to get a whiff of it and be like wtf.

How accurate are the glucometers?

Hi everyone, I was wondering how accurate your glucometers are?

I have a contour Next One. I am just trying to get a grasp on how certain foods are affecting my sugars as I start my journey.

I have been checking my sugar in the morning, in the afternoon/evening before I eat and then two hours after I eat.

So far my fasting levels have been hovering from 90-100 and my after meal spikes usually around 110-120 with 128 being the highest. (I went a little off board on 4th of July). To me it feels to good to be true.

Like for example on 4th of July I pigged out and had 2 hot dogs w/ “low carb” bread, a cheeseburger w/ low carb bread, a spoon of Mac and cheese, some baked beans, and some ribs w/ bbq sauce. My spine only went up to 118, but I guess with the variance it could be higher.

I’ve heard that the accuracy can be +\- 15%

Long ramble short: I just want to make sure that I’m not thinking I’m doing better than I think I am.

I am so tired! (In a good way)

Did anyone else experience being so tired when they started getting their blood sugar stable and under control at the start of their journey? I feel like I’m catching up on years of not getting good sleep. I think one of the worst symptoms that I had was lack of good sleep to the point that it greatly affected my mental health, Years and years of waking up all through the night until I confronted my health. Right now I feel like I could sleep for days. I’m finally starting to feel like my old self. The brain fog is lifting! Yay!

108 blood glucose 2 hrs after eating 🥳

Very happy with this number! Still new to my journey, but I’ve been taking it in stride. Healthier habits and some assistance with Junamet XR and losing weight. Still titrating up to my full dose of Junamet as well. I know that one BG reading doesn’t tell the whole tale, but I am happy that I have been stable. I’m eager to see my A1C in a couple of months during my follow up.

What is our BG goal after eating as a type 2? Am I eating too much at once?

Hello everyone,

What should our BG goal be when we eat? Today I fasted until 2:45 and then ate 5 grilled chicken tenderloins and quite a bit of frozen green beans. Then I went on a 40 minute walk. When I measured my BG 2 hours after eating it was 140. Is that acceptable? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

How to handle long term care?

Hello everyone,

What’s the best way to handle long term care as far as medical providers? I was diagnosed a little over a week ago with a BG of 250 and A1C of 10.0. This last Saturday I managed to get down to 130 BG after starting Junamet and eating very low carb/ walking 2 miles after eating. I’m building habits to continue to improve that.

Now my questions are: should I been seeking an endocrinologist for long term management or is PCP fine?

I definitely have diabetes, but how am I sure what type? I just want to make sure that I am taking care of myself properly. What questions do I need to ask?

Didn’t realize how sick I was.

I never fully grasped how sick I was from high blood sugar until I have been taking strides to lower it. I am still newly diagnosed and have my whole life ahead of me to manage my T2, but my biggest motivation right now is that I’m feeling so much better even at the begging of being more conscience of my blood sugar. I have been doing intermittent fasting, i keep my carbs below 30g for the day all from green fibrous veggies ,I walk for 30 minutes after I eat, and I am on Junamet XR. I pray that I can keep these habits up.

Newly diagnosed T2 (Janumet XR)

Hello Everyone,

I was just diagnosed with T2 diabetes today when my blood glucose came back at 250 and my A1C at 10.0.

I’m honestly very sad, but I am determined to make lifestyle changes through diet, exercise and medical help. The last 4 months of high blood sugar symptoms have been awful and I just want to feel better.

My doctor prescribed be Janumet XR for medication. Does anyone have experience with this? Do you think I will see results on conjunction with diet and exercise?

Tenure being the basis of promotion?

What are your thoughts on this concept? I am about 3 weeks from vacating my position because of a promotion. The person that works directly under me has been with the company for 18 years and prior to me joining.

When I recommended her to my supervisor it was immediately shot down. Honestly, she lacks some of the skill set to do the job, but I think that she could learn these skills and get up to speed. I’ve only been here for a little under 3 years and I wonder if there is more history that I am not aware of.

She naturally feels bummed out and I’m not sure how to console her or if there is anything I could do.

She keeps saying that she has been here for 18 years and that she’s getting passed up, but the previous 3 times that this position has opened up, she has neglected to apply.

Do people deserve promotion just for time served? What are your thoughts?
