Five Klick from the Wire Conversion

Five Klick from the Wire Conversion

I've been working on a modern conversion of Five Parsecs, and have included it if people want to give it a try and give any feedback. This is an updated version with a few bug fixes.

It turns the game into a modern day Jagged Alliance esq game. You play as a team trying to restore order to a country subjected to turmoil by insurgents, militants and rebel forces (as either a military special operations team, spy agency's special activities team, or private military company).

It keeps the original game’s solo narrative skirmish engine, character progression, injuries, campaign turns, patrons, and emergent stories. Instead of planet hopping, it uses a map and map area concept from Five Leagues from the Borderlands, where you travel through a persistent country map of towns, villages, backcountry, contacts, and points of interest using a mobile FOB.

It incorporates a modified version of the Threat system from Five Leagues, called The Shadow War. This is three hostile factions such as cartels, insurgents, extremists, rogue forces, militias, or mercenaries. They operate across the map, build camps and safe houses, pursue plans, and grow stronger if ignored. Players gather Intel, take contracts, investigate sites, hunt HVTs, clear complexes, and conduct missions to reduce Threat Levels and dismantle enemy Threats.

Other mechanics are a basic and advanced Suppression system, and beaten zone. It also uses the Stealth Mission add on, which is incorporated right into the conversion.

The conversion requires the Five Parsecs core rulebook to play, as it is used in tandem with the conversion.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Classes being OP, or needing changes in stats, weapons needing tweaking, if there is a hiccup in campaign play, etc. I would love to be able to flesh this out, and make any necessary adjustments so it's an enjoyable conversion for everyone.

Conversion Question

I’ve finished a conversion of a modern warfare/COIN/stability operations of 5 Parsecs, using the map/travel of 5 Leagues, and am in the process of playing it out to ensure it works properly.

Are there any rules regarding posting conversions, or making them in the first place? I’ve seen the other fan conversions.

This one is a supplement, meaning it requires the core book to be purchased for 5 Parsecs, and doesn’t copy things from the base game into the conversion rule book.

FDM Building App PrintHaus.app

I recently tried the beta of an app called PrintHaus.app. I wanted to put the band it there in case other people might find value in it.

Caveat: I am not affiliated with the app, and get nothing from the review (monetary or otherwise). I was/am part of the beta (so I’m using the app for free). I also haven’t used every function. Just to be transparent.

I use Lego for mini figures and porting my terrain. I’ve had trouble finding buildings with interiors that work with my set up. This app really helps with that.

You select from number of floors, roof type, draw the interior walls, add the windows and doors (which are inserts. The doors can be doorways or hinged doors that open. The windows can be open or with a “pane” in them), you can have separate flooring, add texture to the walls, floor and roof (35 different textures I think), and while you make these selections a 3D model updates in real time you show you the build.

You then select your printer (which shows your bed size) and the scale you want the building to be. This is what really helped me. I picked 1:45 and it showed a Lego mini figure indicating the scale was for Lego. The other scales have other visual indicators as well, making it really easy.

Then, just export and that’s it. You get the zip file with the STEP showing it assembled, and the files for printing. All the work is done by the app, you just make the selections.

The UI was a bit overwhelming at first, but only took 10-20 seconds of clicking around to wrap my head around it. There are YouTube tutorials, but I found I didn’t need them. Everything is explained in the app pretty well.

I thought for modern wargaming, where interiors can be a big staple of the game, this app would be handy.

The creator is u/Beginning_Remote_474 if you have any questions. They have been prompt with anything that I’ve brought up to them.

The more people using the app, the more developed it gets and helps the wargaming community.

Haywire Campaign

I have the Haywire rule book, and did some searching to see if there were options for a campaign or campaign generator.

I saw Tour of Duty and Protocol mentioned, but can’t find them for download or sale anywhere.

Do these exist, or other options?

DeAR

Upper and Lower: Sweet Bugger CMMG in PA6-CF

Handguard: DeAR Re-release Dual Rail Slot in PLA+

Grip: Prism Armaments AR Pistol Grip in PLA+

The suppressor is an old FTN 3 I printed a year or so ago. I don’t recall which exactly.
Same with the foregrip.

MPX stock.

Coruscant vs Alderaan

I want to preface this post with the following:

The work gone into both these conversions is great, and appreciated by not only me, but the community.

This isn’t a question about which one is better. I’m not trying to pit one against the other. The fact that people have put in the time and effort into these, to then offer them for free, can’t be understated.

My question is about the differences between the two conversions, systems in place, and changes to the core game. What do the changes look like compared to each other? The idea being to help myself and others see these changes and make a decision on which they would like to jump into first.

Haywire with Campaign

Moving from Five Parsecs and Leagues into Haywire.

I really enjoy the campaign Parsecs and Leagues has for play outside of the skirmishes. Having to spend money on upkeep, a base or space ship, taking different contracts for pay, quests, random encounters and events that impact your group, recruitment, buying equipment, the list goes on.

I’ve dabbled in converting all the Five Parsecs stuff outside the skirmishing, into something more modern and applicable to Haywire, to allow for this additional to the game.

Is there already something like this that exists, or something other people have been using to accomplish this?

I’ve been trying out a suppression mechanic for 5 Parsecs, and looking for ideas on how to tweak it. Here is the concept:

A. Someone takes a shot at an enemy, and rolls to hit.

B. If the roll is 1 shy of a hit (I call a “near miss”), it adds “suppression” (EN behind cover, 10” away, roll 5 to hit and need 6).

C. Suppression works the same as stunned. When suppressed, the target can either move or shoot that turn. Not both.

D. Suppression lasts one round. If the enemy has already gone, it applies the next round the enemy has an activation/turn. Suppression lasts until it affects the target, then it is gone.

E. Suppression applies to both player and enemy.

The idea being 1 short of a hit is “close”, and striking cover, or a near miss, and adds suppression. I know “duck back” exists, but it’s a bit different and I’m not a fan.

I’ve also toyed with the idea of needing two rounds back to back of near misses, or two characters having near misses at the same enemy, to cause suppression.

Open to thoughts or idea.

On Ride Patrol, if you have a traveller encounter that results in no combat (say they just become a Friend), is there any additional rewards or a roll on the loot table? Or is that all you get from undertaking the Ride Patrol?
