“Pre-TS was about developing the Strawhats; Post-TS is about developing the worldbuilding”

Heard this explanation recently to justify the lack of interaction among the crew. I like the idea in theory but it just doesn’t bear out.

It’s been well over a decade years since the time skip, so Oda can’t depend on Bush administration character work to carry our emotional investment into 2030.

All the hardships and trials the SHs went through should still manifest into on-screen chemistry even today. But they honestly feel more like random mercenaries who happened to be hired by the same captain than friends at this point.

WCI is probably the best post TS arc in this respect because it managed to world build and explore the relationships between the SHs in an interesting and challenging way.

If you neglect to do character work for a long time, we fall out of love with the strawhats and it becomes really really hard to care about their journey.

Anyone else overwhelmed by the amount of talent on this team?

We’re going into the next season with a squad consisting of: Nique, Max, Keegan, Hunter, Cardwell and Plowden (that’s just the young guys)

And then we have the chance to re-sign the likes of Precious and Russ.

AND THEN we’re picking top 10 in a generational draft and 2 second round picks.

Like who do you even start? Who do you bench? I don’t envy Doug because there’s so many players you wanna see on the floor and balancing minutes will be TOUGH
