Oh God, he's just such a well written character. His story might be the most tragic in all of Vinland Saga. He was brought up in a culture of domination and subjugation, and he was rightfully disgusted by that. In a better world, he probably would have adopted a philosophy akin to that of Thors. In fact, when he met Thors, I think that a part of him deep down actually agreed with him, but he just couldn't square Thors' philosophy with his goal of protecting Wales. Instead, he became the embodiment of everything he hated: a viking warlord. And yet, his dying wish was that Thorfinn would follow in Thors' footsteps rather than his. It's just absolutely masterful writing.

I love that Gravity Falls explored the common male experience of having a crush on a redheaded tomboy who is too old for you

I mean seriously, whomst amongst us haven't been in that exact position? I think that that is probably a pretty common coming of age experience for every straight or bisexual adolescent boy.

So, we all stand a sex positive king, do we not?

So, first of all, I feel extremely dirty using Twitter buzzwords in my post, but it is what it is. If you're reading this, they got your attention.

With that being settled, I want to reset the focus of this post on to Lihaku. He's just such a good guy. He doesn't care one iota about the fact that the woman he loves is a sex worker. In fact, the fact that she has such a high sex drive is a plus for him. Dude's an absolute chad, and I want nothing but the best for him and Pairin.

EDIT: I meant "stan" not "stand". Forgive me. I've had rather much to drink.

Heiter Appreciation Thread

I don't spend too much time in fan spaces for Frieren, so I don't really have a good enough read on how popular he is to say that he's underrated, but I feel like he has to be. At the very least, he's my favorite character.

What I like about him the most is how he's used to explore the theme of faith. His belief that it would simply "be more convenient" if there were a heaven might seem a bit childish, but I feel like that cuts to the core of what faith in its purest form actually is. It's not something that comes about through reason. In fact, I think the most useful definition of faith is probably something along the lines of "belief without reason". I've had a really tremulous relationship with faith myself (raised evangelical Christian, then atheist, then agnostic, then "spiritual but not religious", then finally back to Christianity, but a very different kind of Christianity than what I was raised with), so it's refreshing to be to see a character whose religiosity isn't a matter of certainty, but is the same sort of "leap of faith" that I took, and isn't a cudgel for him to use against others, but something that strengthens his resolve to go out into the world and do good.

Tldr; Heiter is cool and good

By the end of DS9, Rom had a career he excelled at and loved (and one that put him at the right place and time for him to save the entire quadrant from the Dominion), a son who made history by being the first Ferengi officer in Starfleet history (and who was probably on track to at least make the rank of Captain), a beautiful wife who absolutely adored him, and, to top it all off, became the Grand Nagus. It would be enough to make you resent him if not for the fact that he was such a good guy. I mean, he was brought up in a culture that was both profoundly anti-worker and deeply misogynistic, but he rebelled against that by founding what might have been the first union in Ferengi history, and supporting his mother (MOOGIEeeeeEEEE!) every step of the way.

In a world of Brunts, rebel, and be a Rom. Hopefully the Great Exchequer will bless you like it did him.

But at least they expressed the (objectively correct) opinion that Ben Sisko is the best Star Trek captain, so I can forgive them.

Seriously though, saying that Muhammad Ali was from Chicago was pretty bad. The only things Louisville has going for it are Ali and the Derby. Don't take Ali away from them!
