[OTHER] What Kingdom Come Got Right (and Wrong) – From the Game’s Historian Joanna Nowak

A few days ago, there was a lovely video essay posted on here about the colour blue in the world of KCD2. Since a lot of you enjoyed that, I figured it'd be good to post this podcast episode I came across a while ago, which features Warhorse's historian Joanna Nowak discussing historical details in tandem with decisions regarding game design. She touched on the choice of blue, for example, but goes into a variety of other things too.

I found it to be such an interesting listen, and for whatever reason, it doesn't have that many views lol. Here's hoping some of you enjoy it too!

(and if by some cosmic chance Joanna or someone from Warhorse's team comes across this, please please please make more of these! it's so interesting to hear about the behind the scenes process for games, as well as the history your team is drawing from. Joanna is such a brilliant speaker, who I'm sure so many people would love to hear more from <3)

If he's the rapist, why does it seem like most the comments are shaming HER?

This post requires some context. Here's the link, I encourage you to check for yourself before making any judgements.

I'm open to learning, and I ask this without any malice because I genuinely don't understand why this is the case. This post is in reference to another post titled, Rapist Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez share their wedding pictures with Vogue. I've linked it above.

It feels to me that are quite a few comments shaming her manicure, her jewellery, her outfit, how she looks next to the kids and saying they look like a cult. I also notice plenty of comments shaming them together, like their taste for example. Comparatively, there don't seem to be as many shaming HIM individually. Am I being biased? Why is this the case? Is this just specific to them? I would love to hear the perspective of other women, thank you for understanding. Again, I mean well by asking this, not trying to stir up shit.

Edit: Just to clarify why I feel this way, these people don't know her personally. They have no idea if she's being coerced in any way. Speaking as someone who was in and has seen people in a bad relationship previously, the signs aren't always obvious. Why are other women, who know all this, so quick to blame her? He's more powerful than her, both financially and in terms of his wider reputation.

What is medovik supposed to taste like?

i got the medovik from a bakery called Bake by Gabriela for a friend's birthday, the cake looked beautiful but tasted like nothing but bland cream ngl. there was no honey flavour at all, it wasn't sweet or sour or anything, like it genuinely tasted like nothing. has anyone else tried this bakery? is this just what medovik is supposed to taste like?? it cost quite a bit too which is why i'm a lil disappointed...

it's my first time splurging on a nice cake too. is this what most fancy bakeries are supposed to taste like? there's more flavour in those ready-made cakes at coles. am i crashing out for nothing? is this just what medovik tastes like??

In your opinion, did FMA and FMAB age poorly at all?

I watched both when I was 13, and now I'm 24. Lately, I've been looking back on a lot of media I grew up with more critically, and I feel that quite a lot of them didn't age as well as I thought they would. I'm rewatching FMAB currently (only at the first few episodes rn), and have yet to feel that way about it, but would love to know your opinion! Do you think FMA and FMAB have aged well, why or why not?

Midway through Hades 2, what were your thoughts on the story atp?

for context, i've beat Chronos thrice, and Typhon once. i'm really enjoying the gameplay, it's forced me to get out of my comfort zone and not button mash my heart out lol, but the story is leaving a lil to be desired.

in Hades 2's defense, the stakes are much higher. Melinoe's upbringing was way more serious and u can see that in how she speaks. yet i feel that she's quite passive in her fight...? i keep hoping she'll question the gods and how they treat one another, as well as the severity of their situation, or even more fiercely double down on her goals, but instead i find her to be... neutral? passive? her voice feels like it stays the same, not just tonally but literally too (not blaming the incredible VA for this, it's more of a writing/direction issue, i feel); i was hoping by now she'd express more doubt or annoyance or stress or anything different to what she's been doing so far. is it just me?

oh and the boons! selene's boons <<<<<< hades 1 god boons. i only really like one of selene's boons, and unlike the rest of 2, where i had to learn to be flexible with how i play, i find them limiting playstyle-wise. i adored the variety 1 offered in that sense, even tho they weren't all that different from some of the regular abilities.

i wonder why they didn't make nyx's boons the final god boons too, she's more powerful than the rest of the house of hades, would make sense if she got away. since she had a better relationship with chaos by the end of 1, it'd make sense if chaos helped her. and nyx helping melinoe so much could play into the resentment her children have for both of them.

Show off your farm layout!

Hi! I've just started playing Coral Island with a friend. We've just gotten to the point where we're deciding our farm's layout, and would love some ideas! Afaik, re-placing things can take up a lot of money, so (since we're both perfectionists haha), we'd love to have a better idea of how we'd like everything to look prior to buying a whole bunch of stuff ykwim?

We'd love to see all your layouts! Please post them below! Thank you!!

Struggling to adjust to Hades 2 from 1, any advice?

i know this is more of a game discussion forum and not a game advice one, but i appreciate the takes on here and thought it wouldn't hurt to ask: I'm not sure how exactly to adjust to the combat styles and difficulty of Hades 2, especially when coming from Hades 1. prior to this, the only other roguelike of this style i've played have been Cult of the Lamb and Hades 1, so i am relatively new to the genre. i'd like to preface this by saying, while i am having fun and am very curious about where the story is going, i find myself getting quite frustrated at the combat and some of the gameplay features, more so than i did in Hades 1. it may just be a bad case of primacy effect, but it's starting to really tick me off lol.

i'm a bit of a button masher, my weapon of choice in 1 was Malphon. i've been trying to get the same feel using the dual blades, but it's just not clicking. i find Melinoe a bit slower to play as, and for some reason it throws me off, and i'm genuinely not sure how to adjust? idk how better to word it than that. generally, i also find myself reliant on health, because i do tank quite a bit of damage as i'm learning the enemy moves, if that makes sense. while 1 made it easier to get more of it early in the game (therefore giving me some peace of mind lol), 2 feels like i'm playing a game of "don't get hit ever" which is too much too soon. i have the death defiance and extra health cards, as well as the tooth, yet it doesn't feel like enough. it all kinda adds up lol. and i'm really struggling with the amount of damage done by those big AoE attacks done by polypheus, for example. they really eat at my health even though i'm casting, sprinting, and dashing as much as i can.

it took me 40 runs/20-ish hours to beat hades 1. i'm 8 hours into hades 2, 23 runs/8 hours in (which feels like an insane amount of runs for that little time lol), and i don't feel like i'm improving much or learning anything the same way i was in the former. so far, i've cleared everything till Cerberus in the underworld, and everything till Eris in the overworld. so not much :/

sorry, this isn't much of a cohesive rant lol. nor is it a critique of the game, i genuinely would like some advice. i've read some guides and whatnot, but the advice there felt very generic. if anyone else has been in this situation, how did you improve? if your advice is to enable God Mode, i do not want to do that as i genuinely would like to improve at the game.

edit: when asking on the Hades subs, it feels like the responders haven't really read my post and are giving generic advice ig. i am casting constantly, sprinting away when i can, and using omega attacks. yet it still feels like i'm tanking too much damage from the AoE attacks and the game still feels too frustrating.

Maybe I'm being pedantic but, I'm starting to get a bit annoyed that so many games set in different parts of the world solely include British/American accents.

THIS IS NO SHADE TO ANY VOICE ACTOR IN PARTICULAR. virtually all of the games i adore feature British/American voice actors, who are incredibly talented and who i am a lifelong fan of due to their work. but i've been noticing this in games a lot more lately and it's starting to make me feel some type of way. i wonder why games set in Rome/Greece/Norway/any other part of the world don't take that opportunity to showcase the voices and accents from that region. especially since some actors are already doing accents different to their native ones. take the VA for Melinoë from Hades 2; she originally has an American accent but is doing a British one for the game. why not have her do a Greek accent? i think it'd be so cool and different!

gaming, as with all media, can help expose people to perspectives and ways of life in other parts of the world. this could include language, but i wonder why it doesn't. accented English isn't lesser than what's currently considered standard English, by any means, and it'd be nice to hear more of what different people sound like around the world.

edit: thank you all for the responses and game recs! it's really nice to be able to have a calm discussion on this haha

Neighbor upstairs is making weird barking noises and stomping around at virtually all hours of the day... any clue what's going on?

Idk any of my neighbours, I don't think it's the norm in my building to get to know each other but that could just be me ngl. Just a few days ago, some guy who lives above me has started stomping around at all hours of the day, and was running around making odd barking/growling noises (I grew up with dogs, this is very distinctly a human barking like a dog and not an actual one). Sometimes he runs up and down the shared stairwell too. It's all very odd. I've been where I'm at for a few months now and haven't run into this kind of issue before.

I'm a woman (23), and I don't want to confront him. Posting this on a new acc bc I genuinely don't know what to do. Kinda hoping it'll stop soon enough. Anyone experience something similar?

edit: I have recordings incase anyone is curious. It genuinely sounds so strange.

update: he was making tons of noise (lots of growling, dropping/slamming things) just a few min ago, but cleaners have shown up for a routine clean in another flat, and he's gone quiet... and now that the cleaners are gone, he's back at it.

update 2: his dad died. found out from the landlord. ig he's just grieving in his own way.
