Checks

Typically I read Thrillers but the whole month of July I fell into Dark Romance & have been reading that consistently… I’m blaming Retrograde & rolling w/ it😂

Black Biker/Motorcycle Club Dark Romance?

I have just read the two available Caselli books this week & I love their family. S/O to Jahquel J💗 I’m looking for something similar w/ found family & Dark Romance vibes but biker club? Quasim is on my TBR but do I have to read the other families first???😩 I just wanna jump right into the Inferno series but I’ll hold off if reading the others first is necessary.

A STACK💗

I need to clean off my desk😂 I’ve read half of these. I’d started to read Out but put it down. Wouldn’t count it as a DNF though, since I’ll be coming back to it. Love a female rage story. The Butcher series, I think I’ll read through closer to when the third book releases in August. I’m a long time listener of Morbid & I’m so proud of Alaina. Of courseee, they’re signed copies.😏💁🏾‍♀️

Have you read any of these? Tell me! No spoilers for Out or The Butcher series, please!

I’m really enjoying this!!! M.W. Craven’s The Puppet Show

This is my introduction to M.W. Craven & The Washington Poe Series. I’m only 40% in on Chapter 24 but I’m very much enjoying Poe as a rogue detective and the way he’s always there to defend Tilly. I like Reid too as a character & hope to learn more of their history as the book (& series) goes on.

MY MAY READS

Convenience Store Woman made me cry, but I liked it. It was oddly triggering for me?

My absolute favorites from this month were The Block Party & Witchcraft for Wayward Girls. While I’m not so much into “spooky”, Wayward Girls was more focused on social commentary for how unwed (teen) mothers were treated back in the day. So I appreciated that. Oddly, I thought the experience of being pregnant was very well conveyed considering Grady Hendrix is a man, lol. & The Block Party was just my cup of tea. It was perfect! Good pacing. Gossipy. Had some dark themes but a light tone regarding the storytelling. It was a perfect thriller & I’d like to get into more books like this.

If I’m being honest I hated Amy from Gone Girl & she made me realize that I don’t like unreliable narrators, though I guess I can appreciate them being used as a plot device🙄 I gave it 5⭐️ cause it’s a classic & I can see how this formula was used to pioneer stories that came after it.

I didn’t like The Trap cause it scared me. Straight up. I’ve come to terms w/ that. The twist was good & maybe I’m not being all the fair w/ my rating but I’m not changing it. I was left scared & angry. Furious even.

The mystery of Strange Houses in the beginning is what makes this book sooo eerie. I just wish it was a little longer. Would recommend!

Horrostör was fun! The ONLY reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was cause I thought it was interesting how he did the Black character’s punishment. In all the reviews, I haven’t seen one person mention it. But I see you Grady & I’m side-eyeing just a little… For what it’s worth, I otherwise enjoyed it.

So that’s it! Have you read any of these? & what do you think?

I WISH THE KOBO CLARA BW HAD BUTTONS.

That’s all. I think that’d be my perfect e-reader regarding size, backlight & access to books. That’s all I wanted to say really. Just hope maybe there’s plans for a future device. Holding out hope at least, lol.

I just finished reading this & I don’t agree w/ people who rate Convenience Store Woman as a “shallow read”. That consensus signifies to me that maybe they missed the point of it? Maybe they are the judgmental persons the author is pointing the finger at…? Hmm.

Regardless, it’s a great story & perspective of someone who lives their Life differently. Keiko truly marches to the beat of her own drum. & she is well within her rights to do so, damnit! I root for the main character & wish her well through her Life’s journey.
