This weekends catch
Here’s a few from this weekend. Bite was pretty slow on Friday but Saturday was fun. Tried to land a couple sharks in the river but my leader let go each attempt. Indian River on the treasure coast. All inshore.

Purchased a new Star Rods about 4 months ago for a finesse setup. Fished it a couple times and really liked it. Then one day while fighting an overzealous lady fish the rod breaks. I figure no big deal they have a warranty. I go to the shop that I purchased it and they tell me I need to contact the manufacturer directly. Ok. Not super stoked about that but ok.
Attempt to contact Star through their website. Fill out the warranty information. Post the pics, receipt, etc. Nothing. No response for several weeks. I do some digging and found a contact link on stars actual website. Send an email about my warranty claim. After about a week I get a response. Sweet. Get a tube and send it out. 3 days after receiving it I hear back. They’re going to warranty it. Sweet. I’m told I should hear something within 10-14 business days. Never heard anything else.
Almost a month passes. I come home today to find this. I get that it’s the shipper who damaged it. However the tube I sent my rod in for warranty was much thicker and more rigid than the garbage they sent this back in.

My contact throughout this at Star emailed me first thing this morning apologizing. Right after 8am so shortly after she arrived. She saw the pictures and was very sorry. She told me to pick out another rod from the website that matched my needs since the one they sent was the last one available. I ended up choosing a rod that costs twice as much (it was the only spinning that was over 7’ and could throw 1/8oz). She didn’t blink. Apologized again and said it would ship today. We’ll see.
I take my buddy out fishing with me on the weekends and this was after a full day on the water. Dude was spent. He’s so nice and snuggly when he’s worn out 😍
I love Shimano spinning reels. I primarily fish inshore saltwater/brackish and occasionally fresh my favorite setups are the light ones. I currently have a TP 2500, 3000 and 4000. I also have a sustain 3000. I’m thinking about getting another setup and have contemplated a Stella I’m not sure if it’s worth it though. I have several other setups with my largest being a Penn Slammer IV 6500. I don’t use the bigger setups much unless I’m throwing live bait.
Curious what everyone’s favorite setup is and if anyone has any recommendations.
Had a pretty slow day on the water. Landed a few small fish. Mangrove snapper, jack and my buddy landed a catfish. We were about to call it a day and decided to just head to the ramp on the trolling motor. Kept throwing and then we started seeing big blow ups behind our bait. My buddy landed his first trout and I got a possible PB ladyfish. Lots of fun landing it. I even called last cast when I got the ladyfish. Overall good day.
Found this hungry fella. Under slot but still fun. Indian River
Indian river Florida. Under slot but still a ton of fun to catch.
Looking for recommendations on some rain or wet gear. I’m in Florida so it needs to be lightweight. Went out last night and got soaked.
I like to try things out for my self before judging them. I’m generally a Shimano snob. Especially when it comes to lighter gear. I have several Twin Power setups that I love. Figured I’d give piscifun a shot. Worst case I would just set it aside for freshwater fishing.
Took the boat out early this morning to get a few hours in and brought it. I caught a little snook and a little snapper on my 2500 Twin Power and then decided to switch to the piscifun to see if I could land anything. Fished for a while and didn’t get any real strikes. I was headed back to the dock on my trolling motor just tossing up under mangroves as I went and then all of a sudden my lure got smashed. Didn’t even see what it was. Just that it was taking out a lot of line. Eventually landed it and it was a stud of an inshore Jack Crevalle. Awesome fight and the chinesium setup didn’t miss a beat.
TLDR caught a big Jack with a piscifun 2000 size reel and 10lb chinesium braid.

pulled a rookie move and while cleaning the boat I got the rod caught in one of my hatches and snapped the rod towards the tip. Tried repairing it but it just broke again last night while landing an over enthusiastic lady fish. I’m looking for the same or similar rod. It’s my lightest setup and I use it in both freshwater and salt. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Went for a few hours this evening. Got a keeper trout and a bunch of trash fish.
Spyderco Slym. Multiple owners. Great shape. Took apart to lube and lighten the action. Beautiful knife. I only cut water bottle case open to test sharpness. I sharpened to 17dps and brought up to 3000 then diamond compound stropped. The only blemish is on the clip side pivot screw. Barely noticeable but I like to be transparent. $200
