Liquid damage to port, will be data be lost?

Summary: Getting my USB C port replaced after liquid damage, will I be still have all saved data, or how will I need to retrieve it?

Edit: It's a Switch OLED btw

Quite a while ago now my Switch randomly stopped charging. It was still running and everything was working fine except it wouldn't charge (did all the troubleshooting, tried charging with the dock etc) I couldn't get it to charge and it inevitably died.

I then sent it off to Nintendo as it was still within warranty, they said my USB C had liquid damage (not sure how or when that happened as I never split anything on it) They said thay voided the warranty so it would cost £200 to repair (they would just replace the whole thing with a refurbished)

I thought that was a little steep considering the issue is localised to the USB C port, so I've now handed it over to a local repair/refurbishment company to replace the port (for £40)

I'm just wondering whether all my saved data will be okay? I assumed it would as the Switch was still working just not charging. I'm just not sure how it all works with game cards and accounts. I'm mainly hoping my animal crossing island will be there. I had Nintendo Online at the time, and that backs everything up right? So if I reinstate my online membership it should all be okay? However when I login on the website it shows my games and prior subscription but it says I have no consoles linked to my account, is that because my Switch has been powered off for quite a few months?

Any insight/advice would be greatly appreciated (I'm a just girl praying her much loved animal crossing island is okay 😔)

Will I be the odd one out at uni?

Hi, I just want some advice as I'm feeling pretty reluctant and just not too excited about starting uni in September.

For context, I'm 20 and starting my first year at uni next month, I took 2 gap years and now feel somewhat ahead but also behind most people.

I studied film production at college, then hit a little rough patch and decided not to go to uni straight away. Which then lead to me working freelance gigs (film, tv, shot some music videos, weddings etc) converting a campervan, travelling a little, starting a business, getting a dog (building my life)

However, I then hit another rough patch, moved back home full time, stopped working. I was feeling pretty lost, so applied to uni thinking maybe it's time I do things 'properly' But to be honest I'm not sure why, maybe family pressures (I did well in school so I think they all expect more from me)

Am I making a mistake? The debt is pretty off putting to me but I would love to study again. I also worry I just won't fit in there, I don't want or care about the uni lifestyle, I won't be living in halls, I just want to study.

Maybe I'd be classed more as a mature student, but will that mean I won't make any friends? In my head it will just be me surrounded by a load of 18 year olds fresh out of school, and I don't really love that idea. Most of my friends now are older people I've met through jobs, vanlife etc. But at uni I'll be stuck in this city, so I'd like to be able to make new friends here.

Sorry for the rambling, I just worry about feeling lonely (or indifferent) which will ruin my whole experience.

My ducks keep jumping into the paddling pool!!

Hi all, I have 4 lovely young runner ducks (hatched in April!) They have free range of our big garden, which includes a massive 15 metre mature pond! But we've put up a pool for the children and the ducks won't stop trying to get in it 🤣

The big pond is full of pond weeds, lilies etc. And it's not that deep, especially in our little UK drought right now. They love to dive right under and swim together in the pool so I understand why they'd prefer it over the pond!

Has anyone got suggestions of something we could buy them? A non inflatable type of pool? Preferably easy to clean for them. I just want to get them something deep enough to dive into!

Is the 11+ harder nowadays? Free studying material?

Hi all I'm looking for a little bit of an insight into what the 11+ is like currently as I'm hoping my youngest (9yrs old) will take it.

My eldest daughter passed in 2015, I didn't know much about the 11+ at the time. She didn't do any tutoring or really any practice at all, but luckily still passed well enough to get into her preferred school.

I'd love for my youngest to go to the same school as it was a really great one. However she struggles a lot more in school, especially maths. She's great at English, loves reading and writing, so I'm wondering if she gets a good score in English whether she can get away with doing a little worse in Maths?

I can't afford too much tutoring, if anyone has any suggestions of good online/free ways to help her that would be great! Is there anywhere I can find a list of the current maths topics that are in the test?

Any advice at all would be appreciated!

Painkillers, tips and tricks, should I see a doctor? Idk just help me please

Hi all please help me. I'm 20, my periods never used to be too awful (light cramps for a day at most) but in the last year they've been getting worse. And I mean every. single. month. THEY GET WORSE. Even when I think it couldn't possibly get any worse.

It's now reached a point where I spend 4 days straight throwing up and passing out due to the pain being so unbearable. The cramps spread into my chest, lower back, hips, and DOWN MY LEGS IN THE MOST TORTUROUS WAY

I need advice from my fellow difficult period sufferers. Any advice at all, I'm honestly losing the will to live.

Also for context I'm in the UK. I don't even want to think about what the process of seeing an NHS doctor about this would be like. But can they prescribe anything that actually helps? Pretty sure Nurofen Plus is the strongest over the counter medication you get here, which can help on less extreme days but also I have to take quite a few which definitely isn't good for my already sensitive stomach.

2026 application, no reference

Hi all, I'm kind of applying last minute to uni for this year (might even be too late I guess it'll be through clearing). But I've completed my application, personal statement etc. The only issue is I'm not sure what to do about a reference.

I left college 2 years ago, at the end of last year I did contact my old lecturer who said he would write a reference for me, however I ended up not submitting my application back then but I am now (indecisive lol) and I kept his details on there.

It's been requested for a while but I'm not sure whether he'll complete it on time, or at all. I don't have anyone else to use as a reference though, I became manager at my previous job so there's no one appropriate there to ask (all 16/17 year old employees) and I'm currently self employed (videographer) so I'm pretty stuck for options.

I know there's an option on UCAS to apply without a reference if the universities you've applied to confirm it's okay. But I'm not sure all the uni's would be happy without one.

What should I do?

Young runner duck shaking, flopping over and hunching

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice on what could be wrong with one of my female runner ducks, they are 8 weeks old and moved outside full time last week.

We've started letting them go in the pond briefly the last couple of days, showed them how to get out (there's a sloped area they can easily walk up) but we've been supervising them anyway.

Today after about 20 minutes in the pond we encouraged them to get out as it's was getting colder outside, but as they came out we noticed one of them (Jemima) walking a little funny, then she flopped down into a normal laying position.

We were worried she was cold, brought all the ducks inside and slowly warmed them up. But Jemima was on and off shaking, walking a couple steps then plopping down again. Her legs were shaking a lot, she really wanted to be on my lap, she seemed very lethargic.

But then it seemed like she got too hot, her feet and beak felt far warmer than the other ducks, she began panting, she would start breathing fast and hard for a few seconds then stop. Also breathing with her mouth open at times.

She's sat down inside with the others resting now, she's had some food and water. But everytime she gets up she walks normally at first then begins hunching over and stumbling to the ground.

Any ideas what could be wrong with our girl?

Too ambitious for 2nd stick n poke? Any tips?

I just drew a rough sketch of a tat I'd like, this moth with a damaged wing. I'm just wondering if this is a little too ambitious for a second stick n poke attempt? Or if any could give me some tips for this one?

Obviously it'd be lighter than what I've drawn in pen, and I'd be using mostly a 3rl, maybe a 5rl for it?

What's this inner wrist area like for stick n pokes? I've only done one on my leg so far. Would I need to to be more delicate and go less deep, or keep my technique the same?

I'm going to draw up a proper design for it, and practice on some fake skin. But any advice or tips on this idea/placement would be great!

What is my skin type and what's the best way for me to tan?

Hi all, I'm new to the group but I hope this is an okay place to ask. But I'm wondering what my skin type is and how I should be tanning?

Up until about age 12 I tanned SO easily and got super dark, I also didn't experience sunburn at all until I was 14 (and it was still only a little over my nose) I'm half Italian (live in the UK) and I think I've got olive skin.

I'm now 20, and every year it seems harder for me to tan. I still don't burn though, nothing more than a little bit of sun kissed look on my nose/cheeks, but even then it only lasts for a day. But building up a tan just seems impossible for me.

I spent 4 hours straight out in UV 6-8 (2 hours at UV 8) with no SPF (bad i know but whatever) and literally nothing happened, a little more of an overall tan but it's so subtle and my tan lines don't show much progress.

I've tried tanning oil and spraying with water but it doesn't seem to work for me.

What skin type am I if I don't burn OR TAN 😭

Lower part of wing sticking out my

Hi all one of my 5 week old runner ducks has her lower wing feathers growing outwards? As opposed to tucked flat against her/hidden under the larger part of the wing. I'm just wondering if this can be normal? Whether there's anything I should do? Her other wing in completely normal.

I'm also a little worried as the other girls are pecking at it, not sure whether they are just wondering what's sticking out of her or whether they are bullying. She's always been a little smaller than the rest of her sisters, she's a little more calm and timid, quieter too. She's the only one that's stayed very cuddly, and runs to snuggle into me all the time 🥺

Anyway this might not be a big deal but I'm a first time duck owners and worried about my baby Beatrice :( Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Opening a cafe/restaurant what do I need to pitch?

Hi all, I'm 23 and currently work at a beautiful restaurant near me on the coast. The building is owned by the large local estate, but has been rented by the same restaurant owner for the past decade. They are closing this branch of their restaurant next year, and so the building is up to let.

This little area is very near and dear to my mother and I, we grew up out in this area of the countryside and have always wanted to own and business out here. We don't know if we have enough experience or what we'd need to get started though. My mum and I have both completed culinary courses in the past, and I've worked as a restaurant waitress then supervisor.

However my Mum currently works in civil service, and we're not very well off, we'd need a pretty good business loan to be able to begin. But we have passion, a beautiful idea for business, we have a variety of skills needed to run it (culinary, barista, management, my Mum's worked as an accountant before, I've done social media marketing) so I honestly feel like we could do it - but where do we begin??

I'm just looking for some insight into this type of business owning, how does renting a restaurant building like this work? Are there a lot of fees and deposits needed? It's a very seasonal location, but I assume rent would stay the same each month. How can I create the financial side of my business plan? I have to send over our CV's and brief business proposal before I can get anymore details (I don't even know the rent rate), but what should our first proposal/email include?

Hi all! This is one my beautiful girls, she has always been a little bit of mystery in terms of what colour we think she'll turn out!

She began with a pink beak which has now gone mostly dark. And she matched the colour what would be the fawn areas of my fawn and white girl. So I was guessing she'd be fully fawn coloured.

When her feathers first started to poke through she looked like a light silver/lilac, and now she's almost 4 weeks and today I can finally see her feathers properly on the side of her chest! They look almost gingery/light brown, so maybe she will be completely fawn?

Any guesses on what her adult colour will be?
