Carnatic music is an acquired taste and rightfully so!

Today's generation has shrinking attention span and things like instagram and tiktok are to be blamed. They want music which is easily palatable and short, crisp to the point. While it is not entirely wrong, our system does not fit into that bracket neatly. I see comments like dilute carnatic music and what not. But by its very nature, it is dense and requires patience and years to master. Everyone has their own prefernces and there are other types of music suited to their needs. But changing this artform is not it. It is at the end of the day, not for everyone and it shall be that way for a long time to come.

I am not able to land jobs anywhere after moving to India. What gives?

I returned two months ago and have been applying but I am not able to land any roles. Is it because of AI? Or does it only work if you apply via referals? I am not really able to gauge the situation rn. So what exactly is going on?

Hope Beyond Fan Worship

Vijay’s transition from cinema icon to CM is one of the most fascinating developments in Tamil Nadu politics. His journey highlights both the power and mass celebrity influence. Fan devotion can create momentum, but when admiration turns into unquestioning worship, democracy risks becoming personality-driven rather than policy-driven.

The real challenge for citizens is to support leaders not as idols, but as public servants who must earn trust through action. That said, this could also mark a positive shift—if Vijay and his supporters move beyond fan culture and embrace informed political engagement, it may inspire a new generation to participate more actively and thoughtfully in democracy.

If Vijay rises above fan culture, surrounds himself with capable leadership, and genuinely prioritizes governance over image, he could prove that a popular figure can transition into a responsible statesman.

Ultimately, the people’s greatest strength is balancing hope with scrutiny.

Is Kannada easy to learn if you know Telugu ?

I have been wanting to learn Kannada for quite some time now. Besides the script, the languages are wildly different. I know border people speak both but is it easy to learn since it is a South Dravidian language close to Tamil and malayalam.

Sometimes it feels like younger Tambrahms and our parents grew up on entirely different planets.

For many older generations:

- Life = stability, survival, engineering/medicine, temple, savings, reputation

- Scarcity mindset

- “What will society say?”

- Risk avoidance as a virtue

For many Millennials/Gen Z:

- Life = exploration, ambition, global careers, startups, nightlife, individuality

- Information abundance

- Self-actualization over mere survival

- “What do I actually want?”

It’s like:

Dad: “Go to temple, save money, government job.”

Me: “Neural nets, PhD abroad, bars on weekends, existential curiosity.”

They often come from genuine hardship, so their worldview makes sense for their era.

But constantly applying poverty-era caution to a generation raised in internet abundance, globalization, and expanded opportunity can feel wildly mismatched.

In many Tambrahm households, this creates:

- Career clashes

- Lifestyle clashes

- Marriage pressure

- Religious friction

- Emotional disconnect

Not necessarily hatred—just fundamentally different operating systems.

Yes I do respect culture and all, but that doesn't mean I should listen to ms Subbulakshmi, wear traditional veshtis all the time, be a samathu ambi all the time at home. Just because I hit pubs, wear torn jeans, listen to taylor swift and rolling stones doesn't mean I'm any less than them. It means my choices are wide whilst theirs wasn't.

Their life was often about survival.

Ours often feels like adventure.

And maybe that one distinction explains everything.

I honestly have no hopes left. I like everyone else, went to the US and completed my masters and unfortunately things didn't pan out well. I was recently laid off and had to pack my bags and leave. Now it' is been over two months of trying here and applying in the USA too, but honestly I am not getting any interview calls at all. I don't know where I am going wrong. But, I feel like a burden to my family. I don't have loans like many people who are returning now but I need financial independence and need to start my family soon. I'm looking for any advice or suggestions. My mind is going to some very dark places and my mental health is going for a toss. Lost and depressed 😔

Even MGR and JJ couldn't achieve this. Wtf is happening in our state and populace? Are we really that much consumed by cinema and it's influence? Do you think someone else is at play behind Vijay? The Dravidian politics made TN what it is. I really hope this guy doesn't fumble but seeing his Karur stunt, IDK.

I combined multiple linguistic classification sources into a single network-style infographic showing the internal branching of South Dravidian I, including Tamiloid, Kannadoid, Malayalamoid, and smaller tribal/heritage languages like Irula, Toda, Kota, Kodava, and Tulu.

Would love feedback from linguists, historians, or Dravidian language enthusiasts on accuracy, structure, and possible refinements.(Had to update the image)

The craze Rajini has is second to none in Kollywood. Once upon a time it was widely speculated that he has a real shot at becoming CM. He even campaigned for DMK once but why didn't he ever stand for CM candidate. His peak was much much bigger back then and unlike Vijay, he had a real shot at becoming CM. So why?

I know this might be something of a controversial question, but are there any people who drink here? Do others think it is wrong or right? What is your opinion? I personally feel as long as it doesn't become an addiction it' is totally fine.
