Best way to protect tinnitus from a 'loud' journey, advice pls

I'm going to be travelling in a car with a lot of noise, mainly loud music. It's unavoidable, sadly. Am I better off with earplugs (soft, ear friendly type) or wearing noise cancelling headphones?

If I go for the headphones, would it be better to just wear them and have the muffling effect or to set up some white noise?

I know this is a rubbish scenario and I'm worried about it but if I can protect my ears then all will be good.

A small vent about knees

I'm 55F and I lost about 30 pounds over 8 months.

I've had to deal with loose skin after losing weight, especially thighs and stomach. I've been happy with how I look in shorts, skirts etc. I walk a lot so the bottom half of my legs are a plus point.

So I thought.

Went to try things on in Marks and Spencer and they have big changing rooms, very bright lights and great mirrors. Finally got a really good look at my knees. They look sort of like I knelt on sonething creased for too long except the something creased is me. I'm so aggravated. Nothing is safe!

Anyway, I'm still going to wear the shorts, skirts, dresses and I've decided to pretend I didn't see my knees because you just can't win them all.

But still!!!

Little dog with big claws - nail clipper help

I have a little rescue dog who is a weird mix of breeds. She has little toes but big, thick, strong claws and still has her dew claws. We've always struggled to clip her nails but this time there is so little space in the curve of her nail, between it and the toe, we're in danger of nipping her skin just getting to the nail with the clippers.

Does anyone have recommendations for decent nail clippers that are small enough but also strong? I'm in the UK but hopefully any recs can be chased up, if they're not on the UK sites.

Many thanks.

Elderly cat suddenly stopped eating

I've been to the vet but I'm not sure enough is being done, or even can be done.

My cat is 21 and has pretty good health. She had cysts removed from both ears, has a very mild heart murmur and bad teeth. She's a high risk for anesthesia which is why she still has the bad teeth.

She stopped eating 4 days ago. She is still drinking, more or less normal amounts. There's no sign of her feeling sick or of it being due to pain. She doesn't attempt to look for food. She doesn't seem to be able to smell it at all, either, but hasn't acted hungry. In herself, she's very calm.

The vet gave her meds for her sinuses and she's already on alternate day steroids. They also gave a 24 hr anti sickness injection. I'm to go back in 2 days (tomorrow) if she's no better. Because she was still drinking, they weren't as worried as they might have been.

No bloods taken yet as she's uncooperative, to say the least, and they don't think they'd get bloods without sedation.

She's weaker today, still not eating. I've ended up syringe feeding her lick e lix and have bought some Virbic vitamin gel. She isn't grooming anymore so I've had to syringe the gel too, along with her tablets ground down.

Is there anything I should or could be doing? Or could ask the vet to do?

I know it might just be her time but I want to be sure there isn't a fixable problem, if you see what I mean.

[PubQ] Finding rep/pub for fiction and non-fiction

I write fiction for adults and children and also educational non-fiction, mainly for children. I've self-published up to now but I'm going to be looking for an agent and trad publisher for my latest novel. Should I be hoping to find an agent who can represent everything? Or just look at the novel for now?

I'd love to have the educational side of things published traditionally but I'm not sure how to make these various books work. Is there a possibility I'd need a different agent for the non-fiction?

[Discussion] Applying to a longstanding agency with almost no online presence

You know those listings online or in the yearbook where they have the agency name, address, telephone number? That's just about it for this agency.

It's been around for decades, doesn't have a website, doesn't want any subs by emails either. All by post, including SAE. It's like I fell down a hole into 1997.

It's been very hard finding anything about them, including the authors they represent. The most detail was from an old forum post in 2006.

Having said all that, they cover my genres and no others. So they'd be a definite for my sub list, if I knew anything about them.

What do you think? Is it worth subbing? My worry is that anything I'd find out about them after sub would come from them. I know the Internet isn't always reliable but it makes a huge difference to see general info on an agency, even if it's just knowing they are legit.

Control who can record in a call that isn't a meeting

I hold meetings where myself and the other person just call each other, rather than scheduling meetings. Is there a way to stop the other person recording the call or do I need to be hosting meetings to control this?
