The other black subreddits are a joke

I used to frequent the blackmen subreddit and left due to how much of a dumbass a lot of the people are on there. The people there were some of the most aggressive people on this app and would often start a fight with you over the stupidest reason. I left recently because I thought to myself, "What purpose does this sub serve? All anyone stupid ass wants to do is make a strawman out of anything you say and be an ass. I might as well just stick with using and observing the main page of Reddit since the people in this sub are so GD stupid"

I have seen people also say that the blackladies subreddit is idiotic too and is filled with its own form of nonsense. Overall, this sub is one of the very few that are legit and supportive. But other than this one, I don't really like the other black subreddits. Nothing but a bunch of dipshits who, instead of wanting to help lift each other and support one another, would rather try to desperately find an excuse to act stupid.

(serious) Outside of healthcare, what other option was there?

I am currently studying healthcare and often can't help but wonder what other options could have been made available if not for healthcare? People often say that you should not enter the field unless you care about caring for people, but tbh I really don't care. I am just going through the motions because it was the only career choice that I could think of where you did not need connections to be successful. It destroyed my mental health working numerous warehouse jobs and taking my pre-reqs to get to where I am now.

Meanwhile, my friends who have business degrees are struggling because they didn't get lucky and kiss the right person's ass and make connections in school, because besides attending school full-time, they had to work full time as well as work at retail and fast food. I am not sure of how it works, but the world of engineering and accounting is completely foreign to me, and I was not sure if the same amount of nonsense is required to work in those fields, in terms of having to know the right people to get ahead in life.

I often hear people say how great the trades are to get into, but only if you can get lucky and get into a union, which is why I never bothered with them. Again, connections are necessary to be a part of one. The same thing can be said about any other decent-paying job. I have tried numerous times to work for the government, FedEx, UPS, etc. I kept getting rejected despite approaching the applications from a different angle.

Overall, I feel guilty and that I am not doing justice to my patients because I really don't care about them. Don't get me wrong, I am not neglectful or rude towards them, but my empathy is depleted. I take care of my patients to the best of my ability, but I don't care when they cry in front of me. Growing up and being screamed and cussed out by employers and coworkers at my old warehouse jobs and stressing out like crazy trying to make not dollars but coins stretch, I genuinely don't care about anyone or anything anymore. I just want something that offers both job security so that I will not be retraumatized and the money to never have to worry anymore about bills.

I can't help but wonder if there was another option available that I could have done?

Moving to the south made me appreciate the northeast so much and filled me with regret.

I am a healthcare worker who moved to the South because I wanted to own my own house. I never really wanted to move down there but did so because just about everything from here to Northern Virginia is expensive as hell.

I don't even know where to begin when talking about my experiences. I guess first things first. The South is not as kind/nice as people claim it to be. I am a minority male, and the amount of open disdain and racism I experienced while living in the South was so abhorrent to the point that it was cartoonishly evil how racist Southern people are. I mean...holy shit, I always thought it was an unfair stereotype in terms of how Hollywood would paint southerners as being nothing more than a bunch of hateful dumbasses who still seem to think Jim Crow laws are in effect, but they're not too far off from how things operate down there. I have been spat on, cussed out like a dog, and just treated like absolute shit while working and having lived there. I don't want to mention what city, let alone state, I was living in, due to how heavily medicine relies on appearing professional. But overall, when people mention southern hospitality, I think they're confused and meant to say southern hostility.

Second: the South felt more expensive to me than living in the Northeast, ironically. My paychecks were decreased after moving from the Northeast to the South, and I knew that leaving the Northeast would result in that, of course. I figured that the cheaper gas and housing would offset the lower paychecks. But what I didn't expect was for services to be so expensive. Food is pricey in the South; tradesmen surprisingly charge as much as they do in mcol areas as they would in Manhattan, Boston, and the Bay Area, instead of having their rates adjusted to the area, and something as simple as getting my gf hair done costs the same as it did in NYC and here.

Third: The quality of everything is pitiful at best. Living in the South made me scared to be sick or rely on others for help due to how incompetent the people are and how little common sense they have. For example, a doctor giving a steroid to an immunocompromised patient with an infection who instead should have been given antibiotics. An electrician who ignored me because I suggested turning off the electrical panel prior to changing outlets and ended up shocking himself into a seizure in my kitchen. I could be here all day ranting about how stupid the people are in that region of the country, but I would practically be stuck writing an entire book.

Overall, I don't want to waste your time by having you all read an entire book of me ranting about how shitty and backwards the South is. This was only a snippet of what pissed me off heavily about the South. There is so much more to talk about, including but not limited to: the pitiful social services, quality of education, proud ignorance, lack of women's rights, pitiful workers' rights, etc.

I was not born and raised here; I am from the NY area, and I swear being back here in the Northeast feels like I literally escaped an abusive relationship and am learning to just be happy again. I don't care what anyone says; the Northeast has the kindest/nicest people who will help you, and it is by far the best place for minorities to live in, despite what anyone has to say about Boston, Massachusetts, and the Northeast in general. Throughout my life, all I kept hearing people say was how great the South is and how much it has changed, and a place you have to move to. I admittedly made the foolish mistake of not doing more research on it than I should have and found out the hard way how terrible it is down there. Fuck the South; it gave me nothing but resentment and trauma, and I am working on getting over that. Luckily, since moving there, I have been slowly improving.

Ironically, I kept hearing people talk about how great the South is; meanwhile, Massachusetts is the terribly racist state, but I have been treated far better here and met people who smile and are happy to see me while living here, unlike being in the South. I have had people help me with a flat tire, buy me a beer after work for fun, and are far less rude and abrasive than when I was in the South. Lastly, job opportunities are available here. In the South, they heavily gatekeep leadership roles and make sure they don't allow you to get ahead in life; meanwhile, I feel like opportunities are throwing themselves at me while living here in Massachusetts.

Edit: I wanted to clarify too that I wasn't in some middle-of-nowhere location. It was an area that was heavily diverse and populated.

RE edit: Lastly, thank you all so much for your comments! Between growing up in the NY area and living here now, I know we have our rivalries, such as sports and food and stuff hahaha, but overall I have nothing but love for the Northeast.

I would be humiliated if I was a vice admiral during the military draft, lol.

Imagine being so weak that your boss, Akainu, was like "damn there is no one viable here. I need to install a draft to find someone who at least can beat a yc3". There were so many hundreds of vice admirals to choose from and Akainu was like "man, Sengoku let just about anyone in this profession", lmao. Imagine how embarrassing it is for you and all of your colleagues to be ignored, just for your boss to do a draft to fill in the slots for 2 admirals being needed? I think I would have quit the marines the same day if Akainu had embarrassed me like that.

Besides Garp, and Tsuru, It's crazy how pre-time skip luffy was able to beat vice admirals casually. The difference between the admirals and vice admirals is just ridiculous. I understand that the admirals are supposed to represent the peak of the marines strength, but the difference between them and vice admirals is too great. It's about the same as the difference between Pekoms and Big Mom. Despite the VA being literally the last stop prior to being an admiral themselves with their being like 30 ranks in the marines.

Seeing this country collapse is funny to me

I think it's hilarious that this country is collapsing. So many people carried on about and kept crying about how terrible Obama was. They kept saying he destroyed America and made it so divisive. At the time, I didn't really care about any of that because I was a kid in high school whose primary goal in life was to attract cute girls. I wasn't paying attention to politics, the economy, etc. Looking back as a grown man near my 30's now. I am proud of who he is and how he presented himself and us to the world.

He inherited a country at one of the worst times imaginable, fresh out of the Great Recession from that mortgage disaster in the 2000's. He did a phenomenal job getting the country back to normal as early as 2010, all things considered, given the hand he was dealt. Granted, I wished he had gone in harder on the bankers, but I digress. He was the most articulate president we had this past century, and represented us phenomenally. He did not have a woman giving him oral in the Oval Office, unlike Bill Clinton, nor was he as sleazy as Trump. Granted, the man had his flaws, such as the drone strikes and other policies which could have been better implemented, but every president is going to have their flaws.

Now let's look at the state of the country 10 years later. Inflation is just off the rails with no one to stop it; the people are losing their jobs to ai and not a single person in government cares, and they're rolling their eyes constantly at the plight of the average American. Everyone kept screaming about how we need to make America great again and that Trump is the savior; meanwhile, this man is making bank and is practically about to plunge us into a second great depression. I bet some of the same people who talked about Obama like a dog still wish he was here now, lol. They would still have their jobs, farms, and social benefits. Don't get me wrong, it sucks, and I hate that so many of our people were affected by the DOGE cuts last year and other negative effects, but I swear it's crazy how people treated Trump as this great man, as though he was going to care about anyone's middle-class ass, instead of his fellow billionaires. He was someone who always only cared about people who owned yachts, mansions, and 15 cars.

I know it's counterintuitive with it affecting me and many in our community, but I want a second economic depression to occur to teach the people in this country a lesson. Too many people have not learned their lesson, not voting for Kamala Harris despite Jan 6, and how they just talk about and still are talking about the Obamas like crap. This country deserves to collapse, in my honest opinion. I just wish that we wouldn't be caught up in it, despite knowing we will sadly.

What happened to Kevin Samuels was the best thing to our community

To put it quite bluntly, he was the most toxic YouTuber to ever exist and had encouraged so many of our men to act like a bunch of jackasses who don't have any common sense. I just wanted to say that after 2022, his influence and beliefs have toned down drastically, and quite honestly, it was the best thing for our community. I only wish it had happened back in 2019, before becoming a well-known prick. That is all. I despised the way he taught so many people in our community to think that being as rude as humanly possible was the proper way to conduct themselves in life.

In response to today's earlier post, why is it wrong to label RN's as an s tier career?

This is out of curiosity, but I noticed a lot of people are tearing apart the list that was made, in which the guy made a tier list stating which careers are better than others. Sure, I disagreed with some of the inputs on the list. But admittedly, I think that rn jobs are S-tier careers. Here is my reasoning. It should go without saying that there are several careers out there that will pay you far more than the average rn will be paid. Take investment banking and being a medical doctor (especially a specialist). Those people make astronomical levels of money. But admittedly, trying to say that being a doctor or an investment banker is a better career than nursing is weird in my opinion when you factor in lifestyle balance.

Doctors without a shadow of a doubt make bank and are the most well-paid professionals and people in the entire United States, outside of a very few outliers, such as the top 1% of TikTok and YouTube creators. Or people who are successful entrepreneurs or actors/sports players, of course. But again, those people are extreme outliers. However, being a physician is a living hell. Burying your head in learning so many difficult science courses throughout undergrad to near perfection, such as organic chemistry, on top of spending hundreds of hours performing extracurriculars and the MCAT, is difficult. Afterwards, you have to drown yourself in learning a ridiculous amount of content in a short amount of time throughout med school, and do your best on the USMLE's and then hope that you get lucky and match into the residency of your dreams. All while accumulating six figures worth of debt that is accumulating over the span of 4 years of you learning this content.

Afterwards, you enter residency in which you're pretty much getting paid barely that much, since you're being paid via Medicare and are living like a zombie doing something like working 80+ hours a week, while most likely having to deal with an attending physician who is grilling you for the slightest mistake (same for being a med student). While you're a resident, admittedly, your checks aren't really putting a dent into the debt you accumulated from med school, so it's only getting worse until you become an attending physician, assuming, of course, you're not aiming for a fellowship immediately afterwards. By the time you become an attending physician, you will have to pay off your debts, and on top of that, it is extremely tiring, and the stress never really disappears. Unless, of course, you get extremely lucky and become a dermatologist or work in plastics. A lot of doctors are on-call and have to deal with the constant threat of being sued by a patient.

Investment bankers admittedly don't seem to be that happy either. So many of them seem to be stuck working ridiculous hours and are often reliant on substances to get by. Granted, I am not familiar with this field as the others, but from what I see, their lives suck. What is the point of having money if you have to spend every waking hour working to obtain it?

RNs, without a doubt, work hard and have brutal schedules. But making 93k a year or more, depending on location, while only generally working their 3x12 schedules, is extremely attractive. Looking at data from the BLS from May 2024, the median salary for RN's was 93k, and I don't think a lot of people are factoring in how important time is. Sure, 93k isn't the best salary in the world, especially with how bad inflation is nowadays. But when you consider how much time you're expected to sacrifice to make six figures, it is ridiculous, and you're borderline a slave to your job. Now this isn't to say that all six-figure jobs require you to slave away your time and that you can't find something that is time-efficient but also pays well. But in my honest opinion, nursing is as good as it gets.

The nursing entry is generally only an associate's degree, which can be completed in 1.5-2 years. Most hospitals are willing to add to paying for your BSN, which will lead to higher pay. Not only that, but nurses have the most freedom of any other profession in that if they hate the people they're working with, then they can get up and leave, while finding a new job in the same city or just about anywhere else in a very short amount of time. Especially if you received a compact license, which allows you to practice anywhere as soon as you obtain your license in 40+states. You can practice nursing and be comfortable in rural, suburban, and urban locations in the United States regardless of location. A feature that the vast majority of other careers cannot claim to do as well. Overall, I know that burnout is real and that many people are dropping out of that profession, but nursing is an absolute S-tier career when you factor in the freedom that it grants you. Not to mention being stuck at 5 figures isn't something you have to do. If you have the stamina and choose to do so, you can easily make six figures as a rn on your own accord when you choose to volunteer for extra shifts. You can decide whether it's too much or not. Meanwhile, most other high-paying careers, or careers in general, don't really offer you that freedom to choose. A lot of the time, you're mandated to do overtime.

How can people seriously think akianu could beat kaido?

From what we saw in Marineford, Whitebeard pretty much destroyed Akainu despite not being able to use haki properly, in addition to coughing up blood and getting dizzy due to his illness throughout the battle. Meanwhile, when he was pissed and fighting Akainu, he literally had the man desperately throwing all of the stops to try and get him to not fuck him all the way up. Yet Whitebeard still managed to tear him up and nearly kill him.

Now, let's look at Kaido. He has advanced haki in all 3 forms and even has future sight. His Devil Fruit, I would imagine, allows him to be heavily resistant to Akainu's magma, since his ultimate form is basically covering his body in lava. Lastly, his defences are extremely durable compared to Whitebeard, and only slashing attacks work on him, minus Luffy's G5 island-sized fist, of course. I think that an unserious Kaido would mid diff Akainu, but a serious one, similar to how Shanks was acting in film red and against Kid and greenbull, would low diff Akainu

Roger's crew could have no dif big mom if he wanted to

I was reading a post in which people were saying that Roger was scared of Big Mom, which is why he snuck into her country and stole her poneglyph. But if we were to be completely honest with ourselves here for a minute, Roger could have defeated her and stolen it with ease.

Roger himself was the only person who was an equal to Whitebeard and Garp when they were all in their prime together. If he were to fight her alone, then of course I would put some respect on big mom's name and say that if it was a 1v1 then he would win high diff and not dominate her. But if we were to include the whole crew, then yeah, Roger's crew would have slaughtered her crew. On her side, her strongest fighters are Peresporo, who gets one-tapped by Rayleigh/Gaban. Meanwhile, the heavy hitter of her crew, Katukuri, would have been no/low dif since he is a far less experienced 20-something-year-old man who probably wouldn't have had future sight and his awakening. He most likely had basic haki and usage of his Devil Fruit 20+ years ago. Same for his brother's oven and daifuku being weak. Most of her army will have been barebones and nonexistent with smoothie being what... a teenager? Same for Cracker being early teens, if not a complete kid. Meanwhile, the rest of the army are kids or have not been born yet.

Roger could handle big mom herself. Rayleigh can solo the entire army himself since he is a YC+. Gaban and the rest of the crew could help Roger defeat Big Mom. I mean, don't get me wrong, Big Mom is powerful herself, but her crew would be torn up by Rayleigh alone before they could do anything about anyone else. Meanwhile, the rest of everyone could help Roger and overwhelm her, and walk out easily.

Hot Take: The people here are far kinder than the rest of this state.

I am sick and tired of people talking poorly about nova and treating it as though the people here are the rudest in the State. As someone who is from Massachusetts and graduated from UVA, I found NOVA to be the most hospitable and kindest people who will talk to you with respect and dignity. I have spent time in various parts of the state and honestly, SOVA is filled with pricks who would talk down to me with a sense of contempt and an attitude simply because of my thick northern accent. I could be talking to the people down there and they will often act like they have a stick up their ass whether it be in a restaurant, retail store, or coworker at a warehouse that I used to work at, or just about anywhere else for that matter.

Of course, with me being the new guy on the block I was always on my best behavior and would go out of my way to be nice and respectful to people since I am new. People would often smile at me but then have a "Oh a yankee" type of attitude and even ranted about me being one as soon as I talked to them. Richmond was a mixed bag in that some people are kind and some are rude, Charlottesville felt too isolating because as soon as you leave the great 2 mile radius of UVA campus, it pretty much felt like being in Alabama.

Honestly though, I just wanted to say that the people here in Tysons Corner and in Arlington have been filled with hospitable neighbors, coworkers, and the retail/service staff are kind here. I just wanted to make this post because it seems like everyone is obsessed with making NOVA the butt end of the joke in this state and I don't understand why people think NOVA is rude. As far as I am concerned if you're not part of the in-crowd in the rest of this state, they are not shy to show how nasty of a prick they can be, to put it quite bluntly.

Also, the rude behavior isn't something that happened all of the time of course. But it happened enough that it made me move and try and see what Fairfax county and Arlington were like and I have to admit I love it here. UVA also was great, but of course since it's a college, they tend to be accepting of people from different backgrounds, which made it easy for me to find employment as classmates and professors were able to connect me to some pretty nice places to work at here and in the DC area in general.

Edit: Not to mention the blatant amount of open discrimination that occurs in the rest of the state. I mean the amount of nonsense that occurs in terms of how openly I saw racism occur down there and other forms of discrimination was insane. It felt like some of the people to put it bluntly were cartoonishly evil in terms of how they acted.

Picking a water type is the most difficult decision

By far, I think Gen 1 has the best lineup of water Pokémon to choose from. Lapras, Gyarados, Blastoise, Tentacruel, Vaporeon, Omaster, Cloyster, and Golduck. Then, if you have leaf green of course there is Slowbro and Starmie. So many hard-hitting and bulky water types exist, and it's crazy how diverse a lot of their movesets are learning psychic, ice beam, surf, etc.

Other types are easy to choose between in that Arcanine and Charizard are the main contenders for fire, Vileplume and Venusaur for grass. The only other type that is bombarded with good mons are psychic, since you have Jynx Ice/psychic, Mr. Mime, Alakazam (if you can trade with someone), and Exeggcutor for that double grass psychic niche.

Which water type is your go to?

Kimahri is extremely underrated

I haven't played in years since the ps2 days and decided to switch it up a bit and I have to admit, Kimahri is arguably one of the most underrated characters to use in the game. Making him go down the black mage route and having a back up character use doublecast of the fire, thunder, ice, and waterga magic made the game very enjoyable. Also if you can, I highly recommend using the warrior overdrive as he will be able to use stone breath easily on fiends that are stubborn to deal with.

I know the typical answers of auron, lulu, and tidus are everyone favorite due to how hard they hit. But Kimahri is pretty good too if set up properly.
