Pressure Canner

Hey guys found a presto pressure 16 qt canner on sale (stock #01745). I haven’t delved too much into pressure canning and was wondering if this was a good one. I noticed that it didn’t seem to have a pressure gauge on its picture like I’d seen on other models.

First time canning questions

Hey guys so I tried making kiwi preserves for the first time (also first time canning). I processed for about 5 extra minutes (boiling water canning) just due to being near an elevation threshold just to be safe. I had some questions about what I’d done below/safety. My intent was to eat the right one (storing in the fridge) and the left one store in the freezer (this was the one with 1/4” headspace).

The first jar I measured to be the 1/4 in headspace preprocessing, but the second jar was closer to 1-2 in. (Right about the shoulder starting to neck down). I was wondering if leaving extra headspace would cause any issues. Both lids sealed/thumped within like a minute of removal from the bath.

Also being my first time I forgot to skim/put the plastic tool to knock air bubbles, but the solution was very thin, is this an issue since both sealed anyway?

I also used a stainless steel pasta strainer pot as my rack (holes along bottom and sides) as the rack that I had was rather rough shape (again would this pose any issues).

Is there any reason/changes to a recipe that I would need to make to store jellies etc (boiling water canning recipes) in the freezer. I was using Ball’s preserving book for reference.

Edit also the recipe didn’t mention a jar size does that mean any size is fine.

So have a nice small collection primarily of Nepenthes with a couple sundews, cephalotus, and a baby heliamphora. Earlier in the year I ran into an issue where I couldn’t find DI water in the store, so I ended up getting an HM ez tester just to check my tap water to see how it was/viable for emergencies. I’d thought it was going to be high due to some calcium buildups on sinks and such; however when I ran the tester in two different samples it was consistently around 50-52 ppm. I also checked a sample of DI which was reading 0 as expected.

Would it be viable to swap all my water over to tap provided I still check each gallon I know Nepenthes still get nutrients from roots albeit a little, but would buildup hurt the tray watered plants?

They may not be perfect circles or have risen a ton (maybe that was the temperature set at 270F), but they are mine and had a nice thin crust on the top.

Do these look like viable Nepenthes seeds? Got some from a friend and they are quite small. Wasn’t sure if the false seeds still had a small embryo in the middle or not.

So I recently received this mollis hybrid from a friend which had been shipped bare root. The leaves are looking a little wilted, so I gave it some more di water yesterday. It’s still looking a bit under the weather and wasn’t sure if it was lighting too. I’d also note that the plant seems pretty top heavy and I wasn’t sure how to best stake it (I feel like it might not have been staked originally. Also since it’s larger I wasn’t sure worried about staking near the base damaging the roots.

Edit also if anyone could chime in on how fast mollis grows that’d be awesome. I haven’t seen much new growth in the leaves for about a week, and wasn’t sure if it was just a slow grower.
