Russian Mammoth Harvest
First year growing sunflowers. This is the first round of flowers. I have another round planted but they are only around a foot tall atm.

Wasn't gonna cut this one for another few days but nature had other plans.
Cut the head off this giant Mammoth russian today. Out of the many I grew this is the only one that tried to fold itself in half.
Mistakes were definitely made. Plan was to wake them up and then nerd pole back up the the hole in the elevator roof and deal with them from there. Well I kinda panicked and ended up cornered in the elevator... my trusty club got me out of there by the skin of my teeth... This army base is no joke.. cant imagine if this was an infested clear lmfao...
This video deserves to bee seen by everyone. It is hands down the best visualization of music I've come across. I seriously wish every psychedelic song/album had a video visualization at this level to go along with it.
For some reason I can only add a video to a comment and not a Pic. Is there a setting I can change in reddit or is this something set up by the mods of the sub?
Before I try anything else to deal with aphids im capturing and relocating baby lady bugs to the plants getting infested. Next will be borax to deal with the ants farming them.
Went out to inspect the garden after the storms last night. Besides a lot of my corn getting blown over and a tomato cage, a few small side blooms got broken off some of my Russian Mammoths. Luckily I remembered my wife had a big vase somewhere. Dug it out and cleaned it up, now have some pretty flowers on my desk haha.
Made my first batch or refrigerator bread and butter pickles from homegrown cucumbers and a recipe I found on Google. Wasn't quite sweet enough so I added a little more white and brown sugar, and they are amazing. But im going ro be buried in cucumbers this year so I'd like to try a bunch of different kinds, refrigerator or canned. What recipes do you all got for me?
First time growing sunflowers(Russian Mammoths) I know to cut about a foot from the head and to hand to dry for a few weeks. But how do i know exactly when to cut them? I know this one is getting close if not already ready.
I see everyone's beautiful blooms, now I wanna see some thick boys! What is your thickest flower growing right now?
Noticed this flower, which opened normal and was the biggest one, has folded itself in half. The ends almost meet in the middle as it bent upwards. That is all. Just thought it was interesting to see.
Storms last night snapped one of my Russian Mammoths right at the base. I had been lucky so far, most are braced but I ran out of sticks. Unfortunately it also took out a few corn plants when it fell too. But I'm hanging the stalk to dry. Was planning on drying them all anyway. What all do you do with your stalks?
I've noticed something strange. I planted a bunch of Russian Mammoths but some of them are growing a bunch of smaller heads along the stalk while others only have the one main head and leaves up the stem. Is this a mutation or just something that happens normally?
These things take forever to ripen lol. Just need a couple more and will be having fajitas!
Been impatiently watching my first ever bell pepper grow seemingly forever now. Stopped getting bigger a couple weeks ago and I've been checking for color constantly 😅. However I checked it today and voila!!! I'm excited and ready for my first harvest. Fajitas not to far off!!
This one sunflower out of the 20ish I've got growing atm is growing a lot thicker than the rest. Thinking about drying the stock and making a walking stick when it's done. Anyone else use their stocks for anything?
Finally looking like my effort is paying off. Getting summer squash almost everyday now. Little bit of everything in here. Winter and summer squash, 1 zucchini, 2 kinds of sweet corn, pole beans, pumpkin, watermelon, pinto beans, a small spot of carrots in a corner, and just transplanted a couple of tomatoes from 5 gallon buckets(in hopes they recover..), and will be planting tomatoe propagations once they get some roots going. Oh and some sunflowers on the front and back edges.
