I want to film a 70 minute feature for under $1000, what are some budget constraints I need to know?

Hey everyone, I plan on writing and filming my first feature before the end of the year. Right now, it is still in development. I plan for it to be a psychological horror movie.

I want to know before I finish writing it, what are some things I need to take into consideration to keep it under $1000. I already have a camera and computer ready. I don’t have a crew yet or a cast. Or script lol.

I know location, how many cast and crew members and scenery will be all the difference. I would like advice from everyone on what they did with budget constraints and how they ensured their project got finished!

Also, I do want to focus on shoot days. If someone has any great advice on shoot days and how paying actors/crew members, I would LOVE that!

Thank you so much in advance!

Wanting to go from working retail to corporate?

hey all, I (23f) currently work in the food industry and I really want to move out into a career I could potentially grow in.

i am thinking about switching to a career in fashion, it has always been something i enjoyed doing. i know how to sew, if that helps any. i sewed for a nonprofit and participated in shows and also selling handmade items, although this was in my youth and have since stopped since i was 16. i am looking to either work as a stylist or potentially marketing. i am also interested in online media work such as creating zines and other content.

now, i don’t have any degrees, nor am i in school right now. i dont really have the money to afford to go to a college but if anyone is willing to offered advice, i can look into a program that could benefit me.

i am looking to start out at an outlet store for a clothing company and want to work my way up to corporate level. has anyone here had any experience in doing this? could anyone give me advice?

Out of all the nonsense that has come from these cases, can we talk about how none of the victims ever came together?

In most cases of abuse, where there are multiple victims, why haven’t all of alleged victims come together jointly? Weinstein, Epstein, Cosby and etc, all of their victims have come together to collectively talk about their experiences and have consistently supported each other.

When it comes to MJ, Chandler and Arvizo are nowhere to be found. Robson/Safechuck and the Casios have never came together.

Wouldn’t the latter two “victims” could together in support?

It seems that with each new “case”, the victims are using prior cases to exemplify their own case.

The only answer I could give to this- is that they aren’t being truthful. It seems as if, with each new case, they are going to extreme lengths, further than the prior, to strengthen their so called abuse.

Is best to use real broadcast footage or create your own images?

Hello, I am currently working a series mixing analog horror and sports. I’ve thought about using real broadcast footage to use in my series, however, I realize copyright would more than likely ensue.

Would it be best to create images/photoshop images to use as a storyline?

I also ask because I am limited to an iPhone for my work as I do not have a computer…

Maybe even stock footage, but I’m having a hard time finding sports stock footage from the 90s…

Any advice/help is greatly appreciated!

If MJ is guilty, why aren’t there any earlier allegations?

Most if not, all of the allegations against Michael stem from when he is in his 30s and 40s. Pedophilia is not something that is developed later in life. It is very rare that it is, and if so, it typically happens due to hormonal changes or brain damages.

Pedophilia is something that is developed during your puberty cycles. So, teenage years and early 20s. It could go a little unnoticed in hetero relationships. However, if people claimed he was attracted to young boys, this is something that would’ve quickly been noticed.

Then, for pedophilia, it is all accessibility and trust. They want to gain trust from children they already have relationships with, which is typically family members or someone closer. Blood related and not.

So, where are the allegations from the late 70s and early 80s? From when he still lived at Havenhurst? None of his family members, who were young then, has ever accused him of any wrongdoing. I find it very hard to believe he all of sudden developed pedophilia after opening Neverland Ranch and started abusing children he has no prior history with.

Are there any thrift stores or antique shops that have used cameras? I’ve been to Goodwill and American Thrift but haven’t found any. Any help is appreciated!

For those wondering, I don’t mind for any digital or physical film cameras, I’ve been looking on Facebook marketplace but wanted to see if stores near here had any!

I am so thankful for my job

A while back, I was working as an hourly manager at a fast food restaurant, not as general manager but just a regular manager. It was a job I absolutely hated. I never knew when I was working until a couple of days prior to the weekly schedule being released. My general manager constantly overworked and disparaged me. The environment surrounding work became so bad, I would wake up in the middle of the night sobbing about the previous day. It was so horrible to the point where I was almost about to take my life.

I wanted to get out so bad. I just didn’t have any education beyond a high school diploma. I wanted to finish school online while I was working at this job to help get out. I just didn’t work enough hours to pay for the schooling. Due to me being one of the more higher paid employees, (15 an hour), I never saw more than 30 hours a week. With the combination of everything, I knew it was time to get out.

Luckily, I saw an opportunity to become a server at a casual restaurant in our city and I took the opportunity. It was slow at first. Having never worked in a restaurant like this before, I really had to get used to it. I never worked with servers, or host, or bartenders, so understanding everyone, definitely took some time.

Now, after starting this job, I am so thankful for the opportunity it has given me. I know a lot of people complain about how much servers bring home every night but it is honestly more money than I was making at a dead end job. Now, most of us aren’t rich off of this. I am definitely not, but it has allowed me opportunity to further my education, which I am so thankful for. I am not as constantly stressed out. I am currently in a technical college certificate program that I’ll be done with next year and in the mean time, I am also working on a bachelors degree online. I am just so thankful for being able to do this with my job.

Sorry, for the entire backstory and this sappy post. I just wanted to share it everyone.

Are there any good ways to emulate analog tape/VHS look on iPhone?

I plan on shooting a found footage/analog horror short film at home, with only practical effects and no CGI. Right now, this is my first ever film project I plan on shooting, so I do not have any gear other than my phone for it.

I want to emulate that VHS feel of the early 90s using my iPhone as a filming source. I have thought about buying a used camcorder off of Facebook marketplace for this, however- I only plan to use it for this project specifically and I do not know if it is worth the investment. Considering that I would need to either create a rig that can store the footage digitally without using tape or extracting the footage from a VHS-C tape.

Any advice or if anyone has done anything similar, I would like any and all help!

“Why Don’t You Get a Better Job?” - an opinion from a server

I think there is this misconception surrounding servers and tips and whatnot. I hate when others tell us to find another job where guest aren’t reliant on our wages. However, in this economy, that is almost impossible. From my personal experience with looking for work, it was not easy. I once worked in a restaurant as manager for a year and developed some paperwork experience and learned Microsoft applications. I also worked in customer service for nearly 6 years, mainly restaurants and some retail. I also only had a high school diploma.

I could not find a job to save my life. I looked for entry level positions, especially ones that required some customer service experience and I would get an interview that would be it. I applied to entry level positions (that I was qualified for) at banks, courthouses, offices, schools and etc. I knew I didn’t want to work in a restaurant again, yet it seems as if I didn’t have a choice. I believe my lack of further education, such as a bachelors and lack of connections stunted my ability to find work. I had a great resume, great references, a desire to work and learn and yet, I end up back in a restaurant, a place I tried to leave. You could make an argument on “just go get a trade.” Money. Money will always be an issue. It’s all about affordability and accessibility.

There is also talks surrounding if restaurants were to pay an actual wage, servers wouldn’t work. Which I could make a point on, I mean, why work a Friday or a Saturday if you’re going to get paid the same amount for more work when you can work a Tuesday or a Wednesday?

You can yell the statements, “make restaurants pay better” and “make schooling cheaper”, yet, these would require legislation to pass laws, which would require the citizens to vote on. Would you go to vote on these laws or continue yelling into a void?

I think the issue in serving and tips runs deeper than most assume. Sure, I can understand not want to tip for something you weren’t given full service to, such as self serve ice shop or a drive thru car wash. However, we shouldn’t assume most servers are people cheapening out by going the route where you are reliant on tips to hopefully make a livable wage. There are many people out there who server knowing this will be the most money they’ll ever make. There are single mothers, people who are born into an environments where growth is stunted and others.

BLS with minor in history vs History BA, which is better for master programs?

Hi all, I plan to start using Sophia learning to complete 90 credits and then move on to UMPI to complete the remaining 30. I plan to apply to different master programs in History across the country but mainly in Georgia.

My main dilemma is which has a better chance of getting into programs. I’m aware history ba has a lot more writing than the BLS which I do not mind actually. I also know the BLS is quicker to finish. However, I don’t know if BLS is strong enough for some colleges. For most, they do not require a specific undergraduate degree, which is also contributing to the dilemma.

Has anyone here completed their history BA or have done a BLS with a history minor? Has anyone been accepted into any history master programs?

Thank you guys for your time!

Hi all. I used to make music under a stage name for around a couple of years before I decided to take break. It has been a two year break. I want to get back in but I have no idea how.

Because I posted under a stage name and never showed my face or anything, I have no idea how to start releasing music again and his time with strategy. I would just randomly release whenever I wanted to but this time I want to release and take this seriously.

I’ve been trying to study other musicians to see their rollout.

Right now, I use GarageBand as my main source of producing as I don’t have a computer for any other advanced DAWs, and it has been good to me so far.

What are some things I can do to improve my craft this time around and be more serious about my work?

Hi everyone. My family and I are looking to sell our family home, but we have some major issues with the house and would like advice on how to go about this.

So, the house is around 40 years old. My grandmother originally bought it. Growing up, my family has always been poor. My grandmother made decent money but wasn’t a good spender. Due to this, the house has racked up in numerous issues. However, she was able to pay the house off. My grandmother passed away a few years ago and we basically had been squatting in it. My mother paid property taxes on it and now she is a co-owner, so we are finally able to sell the home.

Now, the issues are- we have some water damage. The pipes are mostly working, except for the kitchen sink. Every other pipe is good. Some of the walls have water damage. We do have some electrical issues with some of our outlets not working.

However, our major issue is that we have a German roach infestation. Which is something hard to admit. I know the question is, “why on earth would you stay in a roach infested house?” It was between that or homelessness, honestly. My grandmother died when my sibling and I were still minors and my mother was mentally unstable. Now, we are all doing better. We are all making maybe a combined income of 75k a year. Which isn’t horrible for the area I live in.

Now, our next decision is selling our home. We have never done this before. We don’t know the process or anything. We want to at least do some patchwork and cleaning before we sell. Hopefully, mitigate the roach problem.

FWIW, our home is worth around 300k. I’m not entirely sure what renovation cost would entail. We don’t obviously expect 300k handed to us or anything. We’re hoping for maybe around 100k-150k. We don’t think repairs would be 2/3 of the cost but maybe half of it? I’ve thought about reaching out to one of those “we buy homes in any condition.”, but I would like advice before I do.

Also, I’ve heard about curb appeal- we have a damaged shed on the property with no door and broken windows. Do we try to get rid of this or focus on everything else? Our gutters need to be cleaned. We have a bunch of wood in the yard and we would need to just do a lot of cleaning. I think my mother would be able to get a dumpster out here.

If anyone has any questions about the repairs, please ask. I would like advice on how to approach this in the best way possible.

Hi all, I have this concept I want to make about a fake disappearance case from the 90s. I plan on using the internet to promote it by posting on social media sites, primarily Reddit. I want to even it with footage/short film that I make to go alongside it.

I just want to know about any legal issues before I can do it. Primarily when it comes to making fake news articles, my case is about a missing child and I would like to know if it would be better to use a picture of myself as a child or maybe a photo of a child actor? This is my main concern with the project.

Also, I would like to know anyone has done such concept before and how you went about it? I would like to make it as realistic as possible but without causing concern to unsuspecting people.

Thanks in advanced for any advice and if anyone wants me to further clarify anything, just let me know!
