Road America Questions

Counting down the days to IMSA! Heading up to celebrate my 40th and have two RV spots in section 6. Grew up in Milwaukee and went with my Dad seemed like every weekend and I'm excited to go check out everything that has changed over the years since we've been back. Had a couple logistical questions if you all could help!

• For one of the spots we'll have two vehicles staying the weekend, is that ok based on your experience or are the areas that we can park a vehicle overnight?

• I'll be bringing my Canon R50 w/ a 100-400mm lens, I have a good understanding of the track but where are your top areas to shoot photos from (especially the newer areas)?

• Is the event on Thursday night worth it in downtown Elkhart Lake? How does parking/traffic look? Also, do we have in/out access 24/7 if we're staying on track in case we need to hit up a grocery store or grab some cheese curds and cheese whips? Haha

Thank you all and can't wait to be up there soon!!

Spa 24h Night Practice Coverage?

Usually they have the session pretty well labeled on the GT World YouTube page but feel like I’m missing the night practice coverage? Am I blind or did they not post it?

Thank you for any help!

VIR Porsche Sprint Challenge Photo Dump

It was my first day shooting motorsports with something other than my iPhone Pro Max and while I know I have much room to grow I was pretty happy with the results. Took with a Canon R50 and an RF 100-400mm lens. I took over 2600 shots across three races and quickly learned today how tedious and how much time culling is and can take haha.

Please give me any feedback you have! I have three IMSA weekends that I'll be shooting casually at - Road America, VIR and Petit Le Mans and glad I had a day under my belt before jumping into those weekends and would love any and all feedback I can get leading up those. First off, I feel like I need to work on my lighting, it was very bright but feel like many of them came out over-exposed. Second, I can certainly work on shutter speed to get the wheels in motion, I got it in a few and then seemed to forgot about it.

Thank you for looking and for any feedback!

My journey starts tomorrow, any tips for a newbie :)

My wife bought me an R50 for my birthday and just picked up an RF 100-400mm lens. I’ll be heading up to VIR for Porsche Sprint Challenge and plan on making tons of mistakes, any last minute recommendations or tips? I have a monopod I’ll be using, lens hood and have plenty of storage and batteries for backup.

Took this on my iPhone this morning up there and can’t wait to be starting with some real equipment!

Looking for a second Electric RV spot for Road America

Heading to Road America to celebrate my 40th and we have one spot on the front straight but are looking for a second close by, I’ve had a few folks reach out but have gone cold. Anyone looking at selling their spot in area 6?

Thank you!

Looking for Canon R50 recommendations

Hey all! Absolutely love the sub and the photos you all have been sharing! After rolling the last few years with my iPhone 15 Pro Max my wife got me my first camera for my birthday and I'm excited to dive in! She got me a Canon EOS R50 and have started watching tutorial videos and how to get the most out of it. It came with the 18-45mm lens.

Knowing I'll primarily be shooting IMSA/sportscar racing at tracks like Road America, VIR and Road Atlanta what are some lenses that won't be too expensive but will get me closer shots? I think short term a second battery and probably a second SD card are at the top of the list too, what would you all dive into first?

Thank you for any help!

(pictures are from VIR and Petit Le Mans last year taken on my iPhone)

Reminder for the “How can I watch the 24h Nurburgring” posts

So as we all recover from the past two plus days of amazing racing at the Nurburgring let’s take a moment to think of next year. The amount of posts related to how to watch or Racer+ sucks in the US is fairly common but now’s the time to action on them if you haven’t already. Most of the VPNs have 24+ month pricing and will avoid this altogether and set you up for success next season.

Surfshark, Nord and a slew of others out there (even browser ones for free) will give you access to so much great racing - 24h Nurburgring, DTM, IMSA, etc. DTM at Zandvoort is coming up this weekend and will give you a chance to see many of the GT3 teams and drivers y’all just saw at the 24h race in a phenomenal series at a great track. They broadcast most (if not all) of the practice and qualifying sessions on their YouTube channel and the coverage is great and is in English. Get familiar with the flow now so you can enjoy next year’s 24h race without stressing or purchasing a different service that will make it even more frustrating.

If anyone has any questions comment and we can help you out!

Transport fire on the way to Laguna puts the team’s Laguna round in jeopardy.

Sorry for the crap title on the last post. Glad no one was hurt and fingers crossed they can either come back soon or make Laguna work somehow. Love that team!
