How was traveling post surgery?

I’m almost a month out from my posterior medial repair (2 sutures/ anchors). I have been fully weight bearing as tolerated with crutches for 3 weeks. I’m locked fully in brace until next week where it’ll be unlocked at 90.

I am planning a week long trip where there will be a decent amount of walking 3+ miles a day I’d say, maybe up to 5 a day or two. My Pt said it should be fine but for anyone else who has traveled and had to walk a decent amount , should it be fine at 4 months? I know I’ll experience some swelling most likely but other than that any other issues anyone has had?

I returned to work (restaurant) fully at 3ish month post acl/ meniscus repair but I was still a teenager and I had less restrictions throughout recovery.

Traveling in November 1st time

Hi! I am looking to travel to Mexico City from Chicago in early November with my partner (after day of the dead most likely due to work unfortunately which I’m bummed about)

For context , I am Mexican and have been to Mexico twice but I was a young kid and it was my parents hometown so I was never on my own nor do i remember much lol. This is my partners first time traveling anywhere outside the US.

I’ve got a few questions:

  1. What’s the weather like in early November? Again I live in Chicago so I am used to the cold but not sure how cold or warm it is during that time so not sure what to pack. I keep getting mixed answers

  2. What’s the best way to go about money, obviously can’t solely rely on my credit card. Since I had family in Mexico when I’d visit we would just wire money to them from here so we didn’t deal with currency exchange. Sorry I’ve never traveled outside of the country as an adult so not familiar on best practices

  3. Stay at Airbnb or hotel? I have no preference for either but would like to be near coffee shops if possible. Any recommendations for either would be great !

  4. Safety, again I live in Chicago where we get a bad stigma about being dangerous so I know only the bad headlines make it on the news and crime can happen anywhere unfortunately. But outside of normal precautions one should take when being out anywhere is there anything else I should be aware of? Any areas I should not wander to late at night.

  5. Anything that we must do? Unfortunately we cannot do the pyramids as I had knee surgery recently while I’ll be cleared by then but don’t want to push it while traveling with all the climbing. But open to other must see attractions! Hopefully i can go back next year to visit them though 🙂

  6. What’s the drinking water situation? As mentioned I’ve visited my parents town but it’s a small town where water wasn’t filtered so I only drank bottled water but not sure if same would apply here or with ice?

Thank you in advance!!

Meniscus repair protocols

Hi! I got a meniscus repair in late July (medial meniscus 2 anchors / 2 stitches)

I previously had a aclr and bucket handle tear repair. My first time around I did NOT have a brace and was allowed to bear weight as tolerated as well as no restrictions on bending.

This time around I’m locked in full extension for 4-6 weeks. I can go up to 90 in my heel slides (I was at 90 my first pt appointment without even having to push it thankfully). I’m allowed to bear weight fully as tolerated with my brace fully locked only. TBH though I am nervous walking on it (with crutches) because I feel like my first repair never healed 100% due to bearing weight soon. I know a lot of recent research shows bearing weight early on can help promote healing etc but also can put too much strain on the repair.

Anyone’s personal experiences on this? Im currently mainly bearing weight when standing with my crutches (I’d say like 25-50% on my operated leg). I’d say for a couple minutes at time tops, but I’m still getting the hang of walking with a locked brace and crutches.

Anyone watch her? Idk how I feel about her

She keeps popping up on my page and idk how I feel about her. She doesn’t seem like she’s the brightest? Someone commented she’s from the burbs but keeps claiming she’s from Nashville. Also milking the dog (Biggs) for content I feel like.

She posted Biggs has started some bad habits because of her and it’s like she doesn’t understand how to have a dog. Granted it’s not even hers but she’s taking him often and letting him do whatever and hyping him up. She mentioned the owner brought up to her to stop allowing the bad habits.

How long did you take off of work?

Hi! I just got my medial meniscus repaired yesterday and I’m supposed to go back to work Monday. I work from home but I’m on calls all day and it’s a bit hard to work while keeping my leg elevated and straight.

How long did you take off of work after meniscus repair if you work from home/ desk job? I’m considering taking next week off as well. If you’re in the US did you take short term medical leave? My job is in sales and my quota is only voided if I take a 2+ weeks of leave, if not I’m still held responsible for my metrics.

Meniscectomy or repair?

Hi! I recently reinjured myself, in my sleep lol….

I previously had a bucket handle meniscus repair with an acl patellar tendon graft as well. This was in 2019. I was able to return to the gym but I’d have episodes occasionally of some discomfort where my meniscus repair was at. Within the last 6 months they’ve become more frequent with some slight catching and pain with ROM and weight bearing. Now since last Tuesday it has not returned to normal, have to use crutches as it’s catching / locking every few steps. I have a lot of pinching on my medial side and just the feeling that my knee is going to pop. No noticeable swelling just pain and discomfort.

I went to get looked at today by a top surgeon in my city. He immediately had me do an MRI today. MRI didn’t show a clear tear ( there were some signals visible but nothing clear) but due to the pain and locking I’m having he thinks there may a tear. He said he’d do a meniscectomy but if there’s a tear on the back of my meniscus he’d try to repair it as with being 24 he doesn’t want to take out too much.

Should I tell him to just only do a meniscectomy and not attempt to repair? I know taking out a lot of it is not good so I’d only suggest him to do this if it’s under 20% of it.

Please do not suggest trying rehab over surgery, I am out of PT so I have to pay out of pocket and would rather just pay for PT post surgery. I’ve gone down that road before and it led to my acl tearing. My main concern with attempting a repair even just partially is that my last repair didn’t seem to fully heal / continuously gave me issues. I was never able to go back to any pivoting and even things like calf raises would cause pinching on the repair.

Issues with [Casabrews 5418]

Hi! I got my machine last week and it was working fine. All the sudden yesterday it started having issues with the buttons flashing and when I try to brew 2 cups / double shot it starts and stops within a few seconds and starts beeping. It’ll work ok for a 1 cup shot.

I tried all the troubleshooting tips I could find on the manual. Thought it may have just overheated and it’d work today (had only brewed one shot prior but never know) Tried again today and same thing. Any ideas what could be happening?

I cleaned everything, let the wand run for a bit as manual suggested, there is water in the tank

What are your best tips for severe shin splints?

Hi! So I have not been able to run since November. I somehow ended up with a stress fracture 4 runs into my run/walk program and in May I was cleared / it’s a grade 1 on both legs (essentially said I have a very angry case of shin splints now). My right leg where I originally had the stress fracture feels fine for the most part now but my left has been the worst of out of the two. I constantly feel the tightness and pulling of the muscles and tendons when standing or walking. I’ve been in PT since February and hardly any improvement but not stress fracture.

I’ve done pt, dry needling, scraping, hot yoga (to help stretch). Still nothing on my left side. And yes my shoes have been looked at and I’ve honestly spent so much money on this now between MRIs , shoes, appointments and Pt. I stopped weight lifting a year ago and I honestly wonder if that’ll help finally get rid of my shin splints. Ever since I stopped weight lifting (I was heavily focusing on my legs) I’ve been riddled with issues in my legs and hips. I’m willing to try anything at this point since it’s really hindering my ability to walk pain free. I’ve limited my time on my feet as much as possible but I do live in the city so there’s only so much I can do.

FFC clases

Anyone go to FFC and take their classes? I’m considering taking their heated yoga class but curious if it’s similar to core power? I’m coming back from an injury and I’m not trying to go into some crazy yoga class lol.

Decently priced vets in Chicago?

Hi! My dog seems to have gotten fleas and he’s not due for his exam yet and his vet is booked out unfortunately.

Any recommended vets that are decently priced? I’m in Lincoln park but open to any area, just trying to get him in asap as the home treatments aren’t working

I have had a stress reaction in both tibias since November. I was put in a boot for 8 weeks for my right one and it caused a stress reaction in my left. I’m still not 100% on my right and the left has gotten worse. I hardly walk outside of within my apartment and I’m not sure what else to do.

Anyone been in the same boat? I’ve gotten blood work done and I only had low vitamin d which I’ve been on supplements for a few months now. Nothing seems to be helping
