Question about neck tension

New to rifle loading. Wondering how much I should worry about neck tension/diameter. I’ve read to go for .001-.003 but after sizing my brass for 257wby, my necks int/ext are .250/.280. As I’m new to rifle loading I’m not super worried about exact consistency just yet, but wondering if those numbers would be ok/good/safe to just make my first and test them out? How much of a difference will getting into the extreme precision of neck tension make for my maximum of 3-400 yard shots?

Thanks in advance

Can anyone give pros or cons for .257 wby mag?

So far I have only reloaded straight walled rounds. I wanted to get into a rifle round that’s not super common and had an opportunity come up

Tomorrow I am gonna check out a Weatherby Vanguard in 257wby. Comes with an RCBS die set. May trade for an old marlin 17hmr if we can work it out.

I have no knowledge of this round, but what I looked up seems fun..

Anyone have info on this round? Is it a good round for reloading? Mostly looking to do occasional targets, varmint, Idaho deer.. low volume, precision fun.

Anything specific to look for when getting this rifle used? I know it’s a hot round, any clear signs of a burnt out chamber throat/barrel I should know to look for? Thanks in advance yall!

Going through an old box and found these

Bought them 15 years ago and they sat in this box until I found them again lol

Gathered quite a few over the years…

Been collecting knives for 25+ years. Always loved bucks being that my mother’s maiden name is Buck. The dozen in the background are all 2005 Idaho tang stamped since I live in Idaho and most are mint or near mint

Reloading 71gr 32acp when I reach in and find…

A 300 grain .458 😂 I can’t stop laughing.

Got a 500 pack of baby pea shooter rounds and didn’t really inspect. When I pulled this out I just started laughing. I can’t even

Opinions needed for a novice level reloader

So I have totally fallen in love with this hobby (of course). Right now I’m on straight walled still because I 1. Don’t currently own a necked cartridge platform and 2. wanted to get really familiar with reloading before adding the steps of trimming, case prep, annealing, etc.. Currently I load .32acp, .38/357, 45acp and 350legend.

Starting to consider what rifle and round I want to add into my collection/reloading repertoire. I was thinking 308, but I am particularly excited to be able to do more off handed rounds that are not easy to find in the shelf. I’m a big bore fan boy, so after reading into the 358winchester I’m thinking this might be my pick. So…

Anyone load this and have any advice? Are components hard to find? Like for my 32acp I have to order brass and bullets online when I can find them as most places don’t stock .312 in 71 grains. Also, any other cartridge recommendations that are fun and a bit special to reloading? I’m in Idaho and plan to use for deer and possibly elk and bear.

TLDR- Anyone load .358 win? Are components hard to find or not commonly stocked? I want to get a short action rifle to start reloading for, and I think I’m leaning towards 358win. Any other semi obscure rounds you could recommend that are fun and practical for this size cartridge? (Idaho, for all around large game, deer, possibly bear, elk)

Question about powder accuracy

So I am to the point with my 357 loadings that I’d like to try pushing to the higher end of pressures. My question is how much should I worry about my accuracy with the loads?

I have a Lyman digital and RCBS beam scars, and a cheap weight check off amazon. Both scales are nearly perfect identical with the weight checks except the digital loses it under 1 grain. For the .1-.5 grains it won’t register. The bean scales seems on for everything.

I keep seeing people talk about over pressure issues being from what thrower or trickler or the type of scale being an issue. If my scales are matching and fall right with weight checks, should I assume I am good to go?

A great trip can turn ugly in a moment

Just setting down for the night and slipped while hatcheting some kindling.. Be safe out there

Anyone else see this issue or know a fix? Picked up a brand new 30x last night and noticed when I rack a fresh round or pull the hammer back, the trigger bar does not fully reset. There is a small bit of uptake left that fully sets the trigger bar before it is single action ready. Does not seem to affect the function, but shouldn’t be happening…

Trying to find a selling point one way or the other through yalls actual experience with things on this list..

Context: I’m gonna have 800-1000 bucks I wanna put to my gun hobby in one of these things next few weeks. I’ll try to add context to my purchase ideas for each…

  1. A 327 fed revolver. Reason: I like what I hear about this round and I started reloading last year so I think I could have some fun with a new to me caliber and also a new ccw. Ruger Lcr or Lcr+ or a sp101 3”would be my options

  2. A Ruger GP100, 357, 4-6” barrel. Again the reload g fun factor.. I currently have an sp101 in 38 spl 3” and a 357 1892 carbine. I want the GP eventually anyway as my woods/camping/hunting/fishing sidearm when I go back country

  3. A Ruger LC carbine in .45acp. I’m a 45 guy for my ccw and am planing to get a can for it if I go this route. I don’t own a pcc currently. I also plan to get this eventually lie the GP

  4. A can. Either a rugged obsidian 45 for all around use now and later.. or an obsidian 9 for use now and I’ll get a 45 later when I have better/more hosts.. current hosts I have wound be a 350 legend ar platform hunting rifle, a beretta tomcat 30x and a glock 21. Down the line, the LC carbine on 45 and lever guns in 357/44 mag.

Any thoughts from someone bored enough to read all that?
