Who benefits?

People without insurance would be better off with Medicare-for-all. Rich are worse off--they likely pay more and may get worse care if private options are banned. Middle class with decent insurance through work? Better? Worse? Same? Medicare for all isn't going to happen unless a majority thinks they are going to benefit.

"Enjoy your preview of our banking benefits. Keep them by setting up direct deposit."

Just got added to Robinhood banking. Not going to add direct deposit. What happens now?

Platinum card - better, but still not there

Elephant in the room is that they are competing with companies that give huge signup bonuses. So that is one thing that dampens interest from the start.

Insurance is weak compared to something like Chase Sapphire Reserve. Earn looks good, but actually isn't. 5% on dining? CSR gives you 3x points, but you can get 1.25-1.5cpp without much work so it is about even. 5% on flights through the portal? CSR is 8x points (valued at greater than 1cpp). Poor earn rate (1%) when booking direct (CSR is 4x). No transfers of points to travel partners. They repeatedly claim that their travel portal has no markups, which may be legit, but is a hard sell initially. Coupon book items aren't going to be used by most people.

Robinhood--contact me if you need some help designing this card. Your first 2 attempts have been lacking. You can have a profitable card that people want, but this isn't it.

Driver accidentally cancelled, finished the trip anyway

Just wondering how often this happens. I got picked up by the driver and very early in the trip he accidentally cancels my ride. He was pushing buttons, swiping things, and the ride got cancelled. He curses, but doesn't say anything else. Takes me where I'm going at no charge. Thought he might be scamming me at first, like a broken meter taxi scam, but he was just nice. And a bit pissed off at the situation.

Only legislation can end tipping

This is an argument some people make. The system won't change until there are new laws. But in some places, the laws have changed. There is no tipped wage and yet tipping culture remains. It seems clear to me that the only way to end tipping culture is for customers to stop tipping. I'm doing my part by not tipping. You do you, but the government isn't going to be the means of change. And until things do change, people like me are paying 20%-30% less for services as a reward for our public activism!

I love tipping!!

I don't actually tip myself, but I'm glad the rest of you do. Just removed the gratuities from my cruise and thought about how much that has saved me over the years. And because most people are too embarrassed to do it, everyone else effectively subsidizes my vacations, my restaurant meals, etc. Please keep tipping, so that I don't have to!!!
