Someone has to save hannah
Christian was born August 23, 1899. At 27, he did magic tricks for a living. Sometimes they were fake, but it made him a lot of money. One day, he was crossing a train track, and a train came by out of nowhere. But he didn’t die. Well, not necessarily. His soul perished in the accident, but his body actually became immortal. It is now August 2026, and even though there is nothing going on in Hannah’s head. His corpse is still active. Uploading “oscar” reactions to a channel he’s made. Titled “the hannahcast” So when you look at Christian, remember that he has an immortal curse, just because no one bothered to help him all those centuries ago. The video above was taken by a news reporter who watched this go down. To his eye, Christian jumped out of the way the second before the train hit and like he said he looked “shooked” However, the information in recent events have said otherwise. The information is alleged but scientists say the curse is the most logical explanation due to multiple brain scans and his legal birthdate. Christian has yet to comment on this but please for the love of god keep him in your prayers.
New date for 8/24
I’m like 99% sure this is Buddy. There’s no other horror movies coming out close to this date that fit and Roadside’s last Scream Unseen had a four day gap. Meaning that IF this is Buddy, 8/17 can’t be.
Ik it’s become a meme of the subreddit at this point but it literally has to be Camp Miasma. ODEON’s scream unseen for that day has the same UK age rating as Miasma, every chain is doing 8/17 (roadside usually only does one chain for their films, when MUBI did mastermind they did most chains), and the trailer for Miasma was in front of most screenings for Ice Cream Man instead of Buddy which is usually a clue.
Buddy is most likely the frontrunner, however it’s not completely locked up.
Buddy fits the information the most, it’s 1h 35m and even though most sites say it’s PG or PG13, it’s probably going to be R. I would completely rule out It Ends and Colony since the former is listed as Drama and the latter is way too long. However, there are things against Buddy. It’s weird that it seems like every chain is doing this film even though Roadside usually just does AMC mystery movies and again, I really don’t want to ignore what ODEON told us. Buddy doesn’t even have a release date in the UK and they were the first to announce this date.
There are still some things going for Camp Miasma. The longest difference an actual runtime can be from an ASU estimate is 16 minutes. Miasma’s would either be 9 or 15 minutes depending on which runtime is real. It’s also basically the only contender for the ODEON mystery movie which usually matches with the US if it’s on the exact same day. Again, Buddy seems much more likely than Miasma, but watch out for when Regal announces their movie.
Evidence that Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma is the AMC Scream Unseen for 8/17
Yes, I’m aware that 8/17 hasn’t been listed yet, but it most likely will soon given that ODEON, Emagine, and Cinemark all have it. The significant evidence today mostly comes from ODEON, but there’s tiny bits of information in other chains that work in Miasma’s favor too.
ODEON has a Scream Unseen for this day and the age rating as 15. Camp Miasma is rated 15 in the UK. Both It Ends & Buddy (the other films in contention) do not have their UK release dates announced let alone their films rated. I guess you could consider Colony which releases 8/28 but that’s not rated in the UK and it’s from an unknown distributor.
Emagine has their mystery movie listed as a horror film so every chain is most likely showing the same movie as ODEON (which makes the evidence previously stated relevant). Cinemark also has their Secret Movie Series as R (they don’t specify whether or not it’s a horror film). It Ends is listed as a Drama on the AMC app/website, meaning that it wouldn’t show as a Scream Unseen, and Buddy is rated either PG or PG-13 in the US somehow, meaning that unless something changes it can’t be the Scream Unseen.
So when the ASU does get listed, it should be pretty obvious what movie is. If the estimate runtime is 108-116, it’s Camp Miasma. If estimate runtime is 117-130, it’s Colony. I’m not fully rulling out Buddy for the ASU if it’s rating changes to R and I’m not fully rulling out It Ends if it’s a Screen Unseen but I would consider Colony and Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma your top two contenders, with the latter being the most likely given MUBI’s mystery movie history. I’ll let you know if I find any more evidence!
My arguments for why Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma could do well this awards season.
It’s WGA Eligible
It has a potential narrative for Anderson (Madigan’s almost got Weapons into picture)
Hannah Einbinder’s performance is getting raved possibly more than Anderson’s and she’s very likely to get Musical/Comedy actress at GG.
It has a 100% on RT with 63 reviews.
It has a 91 on MC with 22 reviews.
It recieved a standing ovation at Cannes.
You could make the argument that it looks more prestige than TV Glow or World’s Fair.
The makeup looks fantastic (on Eva Victor?) and it would be a crime to not give it at least a shortlist mention.
It’s a movie about movies which the oscars tend to like. (If they’re actually well received ofc)
Horror bias doesn’t really exist for the academy anymore.
It could get Musical/Comedy picture at Globes if the raves continue.
This isn’t anti PGA if it’s financially successful.
Bonus (13): MUBI is capable of getting a film into Best Picture.
Is Michael Johnston OUT of the race?
I know he was never getting the Oscar nomination, but I didn’t think CC or GG was out of the question, but now that he missed actor at the Midseason awards, even those may be in jeopardy. What do you think?
Dark Horse For The Mystery Kill Count
In all fairness, it is probably Scary Movie. The sixth entry releases this weekend and this is the best time to cover it. But I SAW THE TV GLOW being the kill count doesn’t make the least sense? It is pride month & camp miasma releases later this year. To be completely honest, this may be hopedicting. But I hope we at least get a podcast episode about the movie this month.
