I don’t think any of us would ever thought that Steven Spielberg would be attached to the Mandela catalogues.

I mean, I could bring up that this is studios try to copycat or try to catch up with the back rooms, but I heard that this movie has been in development for like three years plus

It is almost really out of left field that Steven Spielberg himself is producing it.

Nothing against that

But one question does come up when I first heard of the news

So does Steven Spielberg watch YouTube analog horror series?

So disappointed in him

I've been following Alex Meyers for like 7 years at this point I always thought he was a legit talented animator and I liked his funny commentary on teen dramas and corny movies. But his video on Obsession is basically him watering down Bear's actions for 20 minutes and skipping over all the heinous things he's done , basically saying "Yes he's a bad guy ,but much more morally grey than everyone has presented him as". He at some point gives Bear credit for not taking advantage of Nikki in a vulnerable state , but avoids saying that he did exactly that when he knew for sure the wish has worked. Thankfully the comments called him out hardcore and I found out there that he has been twice divorced...so you know. Idk for someone I respected a lot as a content creator this was disturing to watch.

I found this on Letterboxd... what the hell is this?

Interestingly, it has Art's actor from All Hallow's Eve, his character's name is "Fart the Clown." And the AI Gemini poster looks weird.

Does anybody know anything about this? What the fuck it is? If I'm going crazy or not?

What'd make a good horror movie -> stage play?

Everyone got wowed by the Paranormal Activity stage play. Having just watched Obsession I was wondering whether that would convert to a stage play and I think... maybe? I'm thinking the biggest sticking point would be the subtleties of the acting wouldn't be clear enough to a theatre audience.

Oddity, though, I think could work incredibly well? The main part of the story takes place in a single location with lots of back and forth across what would be the set and it doesn't rely too much on special effects or small details that would be hard to convey. Assuming there was someone willing to sit very still on stage for a long time.

I'm sure there's lots of others that would be a good fit, whether because they're already almost plays or because it could go all in on something to make it work really well on stage (like the Paranormal Activity house cross-section set).

So I'm wondering what other horror movies people think would make good plays?

I figure this is a good place to ask!

Sooooo… I finally watched obsession…

… and all I could say is… holy shit. What a movie.

I’m already looking forward to this movie getting covered on the kill count once James gets his hands on the blu ray.

Hell, i can’t wait to see how many awards it would garner at the dead meat horror awards next year. (Fingers crossed that it sweeps all of the awards)

for now, this is an easy 10/10 from me.

even though you could watch it at home now, If you have the chance to see it in theatres - go for it. It lives up to the f**cking hype.

Question: What does the A in James A. Janisse stand for?

I'm just realizing that I don't know what the A stands for. What is your middle name Mr. Janisse?

The man who made the exorcist is a fucking lunatic

William Friedkin, the director of the exorcist is one of the weirdest shitheads you’ll ever find in the horror movie industry. Which is saying something. It’s pretty well known that William abused his actors on the set of the exorcist, slapping them, causing spinal injuries, including causing child actress Linda Blair a permanent back injury. From this he just sounds like an average dickhead director but dear gos that is only the surface, he’s a very weird man.

The movie Cruising was inspired by his friendship with suspected serial killer Paul Bateson who cameos in the Exorcist as a doctor. To get into the mindset of Paul, William apparently dressed in BDSM and perused gay bars. Concerning when there’s an interview with William where he says he has violent urges and was close to becoming a serial killer himself.

William also genuinely believes in exorcisms and possessions. After a fire on at, William believed the movie set of the exorcist itself was cursed and he called in a priest to exorcise it. In 2017 he made a documentary called “the devil and father Amorth” where he follows the official exorcist of the Roman diocese as he performs an exorcism. Father Amorth is an actual Vatican priest known for scamming people into exercising mentally ill loved ones and spreading homophobic conspiracies. Half the movie is William presenting footage of the exorcism to scientist and all of them calling it fake. Which makes me think they were legally pressured not to alter any of their opinions.

William Friedkin died in 2023 at 87 years old.
