Have found a local aircon installer who has given me a competitive quote, or so I think anyway, for a multisplit system for my property.

I can't seem to find out much about the company, mainly reviews from various sources and am not sure if this should be a red flag or not, and they don't really seem very well advertised as a lot of the more popular local installers are. They have 2 reviews on google and 3 on facebook, all within the last 12 months.

According to companies house they were formed in 2015 so a fair while in the business, they do refrigeration, ventilation and air con services, for domestic and commercial. Find it a bit odd how they havent got more reviews, and pictures of their work / past projects etc.

Would this be a red flag to you or nothing to worry about ...

Am trying to work out a hot water solution for my property.

Am having a solar / battery system installed, and looking to have this warm up a hot water cylinder through an immersion heater

Have seen some posts about a solar water heater inverter, which diverts solar power to the immersion heater, but since I will be having a battery system, can't the immersion heater just work how it would in a normal household connected to the main board and then using cheap off peak electric through the battery to power the immersion heater, negating the need to spend more £ on a solar inverter?

I have been mainly looking and quoted for the EQ battery range (EQ5000), but I think I maybe able to make the EP12 also work, it should also be cheaper for more battery storage, but not sure aesthetically what it will look like, I don't think it will look as neat as an EQ install and not a fan of it looking too industrial so to speak, sooo .......

I'm looking for install pictures of both of these battery systems if anyone would be so kind as to share

Have had a quote of between £1200 and £1500 for a gateway installed on a solar / battery system, I am not able to justify the price at the moment as I have never had any power issues for the 15 or so years I have been living in this area. The odd 10 minutes here and there if it has happened when I have been out etc doesn't bother me.

I know you can get single circuit gateways but these are still most likely going to be quite pricey.

Sooo ....

Is there a cheaper workaround where I could just have a double socket / light etc wired up (possibly direct to the battery) so that in the case of a power failure I still have some sort of power? Even if it means I have to manually switch something over in order for this to work?

As the title says, I need to pick one of these quotes but can not decide which one. The quotes are for a full solar and battery installation not just batteries.

I think I have made my mind up then something sways it to the other.

A lot of people opt for Fox over Signergy because of the price, but for the sake of £1000 I don't think it is much if the Sigenergy really is a 'premium' product over the Fox 'medium' range product

• Fox EQ - 12 year warranty 6,000 cycles, Sigenergy - 10 year warranty 10,000 cycles, both have battery heaters and fire suppression.
• The dimensions of each are not really a factor as either will easily fit where I intend to have it installed, even though the Signergy would look more 'slimline' than the Fox as it won't stick out as much.
• Am going for a 20KW battery so the Fox EQ range will be 19.68 useable, Sigenergy 20KW (BAT 10.0 x2) which is really 9KW(18KW x 2) will be 17.52KW useable, so a £1000 more for 2KW less battery.
• The lower operating temp is -10 for the Fox but -20 for the Sigenergy so the Sig may perform better in colder temps over winter time but it barely gets much below freezing in South West of England anyway, and they both have battery heaters.
• The AI app I did think would also be an issue with Fox not having one but have found that they do, its called Capture AI and does similar stuff, although possibly not as good, as the Sigenergy AI features, just incase I did decide I wanted to use these features in the future, and can do the whole modbus predbat stuff but that may be beyond me in terms of setting it up etc, the Sigenergy is more plug and play in this respect.
• Also the Sigenergy having to connect to the 'Cloud' otherwise will limit battery storage I find a bit odd and possibly a big issue if the copmany every went down, or future subscription based services.
• At this time EV charging is not a factor as don't have an EV, and won't even be looking into this for at least 5+ years or so, and whole home backup (gateway) I don't think will be needed as I can't remember the last time had a powercut.

After receiving around 10 or so quotes from local installers and doing a bit of back and forth, am very close to accepting this final quote which should suit my needs nicely, and have a bit of wiggle room should I need more.

Have read way too many posts on here and it seems a pretty good price, not the best but up there on the cheaper end of things and the installer is a well established (2010) local company around 10 miles from me with nothing but good reviews.

Have got a quote back for a bigger inverter and batteries:

To upgrade the inverter to an 8kW will cost an additional £590 for Fox and £760 for SIG as we would have to pay for the G99 DNO application as it is over 7kW.

To upgrade the inverter to an 10kW will cost an additional £780 for Fox and £950 for SIG as we would have to pay for the G99 DNO application as it is over 7kW.

The additional batteries are £1255 for each additional 5kWh Fox Battery and £2550 for each additional 9.04kWh SigEnergy Battery.

Is there any negative to going to a 10KW inverter over a 8KW? Hopefully it will last a bit longer as it won't be run at it's max as much as a smaller capacity one? For the little amount extra I think the 10KW is worth it.

Do these sound like decent prices?

Hi, have just received a new A2A ASHP quote, has been very difficult getting hold of anybody to talk to about A2A heatpumps let alone get anybody round to quote me. After attempting to contact over 10 different companies have finally received another quote.

My first quote which was done a few weeks ago now was for £6K for a Midea heatpump and 4x internal wall mounted units.

Second quote is for just under £6K for a Fujitsu heatpump and 4x internal wall mounted units.

Apparently the Fujitsu are a much better brand than the Midea and they both offer very similar features, not really much difference in them apart from the brand name so I can see.

Which one would you go for?

EDIT: Doing a little research the Midea units (Breezeless-E) look to have better spec and features than the Fujitsu (ASYG07/09/12/14KMTA) units hmm ...

Just cant decide between these 2 batteries, have had a quote for both ( including solar panels ) and the Sigenergy is £600 more even though it has about 1KW less useable energy than the Fox. Am looking for a stackable battery which these both are.

The Sigenergy is more a premium brand apparently when compared to fox, app on the Sigenergy seems to have better reviews when compared to fox

Am not sure how much or how easy it is to upgrade or costs involved but being a stackable unit should be fairly easy with both

I don't currently have an EV but once my current car has come to end of life, which may be 5 years, maybe 10 am not sure, I am seriously considering getting one as would be cheap to run with the solar / battery system i think, also not sure which brand would be better for this. The Sigenergy does have a direct DC to DC charger but apparently is around the £4K mark which sounds a lot for a charger, don't know how the Fox compares on this. This maybe something to not worry about at the moment as it will be a quite a few years down the line from now.

That is all I can think of for now there is probably more things to consider though

I also forgot to add that the Sig is 10,000 cycles with a 10 year warranty, and the Fox is 6000 cycles with a 12 year warranty.

Hi am wanting to get an Air 2 Air ASHP installed in my property. Have had a quote already from a local company of 6K for 1 outside heatpump unit and 4 indoor units, the brand is Midea which I hadn't heard of before and doing some research there is some bad stuff to be said mainly regarding cheap chinese crap, but how true that is I am not sure, and they may have improved a lot recently. The person that attended my property to do the quote has got the same system installed in his property and loves it. The same company also do Daikin units as well but are more expensive, have not got a quote for this yet.

Would it be worth paying the extra and getting Daikin units or will the Midea units be good enough?

Have had a quote from a company for an ASHP A2A system of just under 6k, out of all the ones I have contacted so far they are the quickest at replying and getting back to me and listening to what I want rather than trying to push products that they want to install. Have just received a quote back for solar and battery from the same company. Is this a good price or would I be better off going elsewhere or possible getting different equipment?

Hi, am looking at getting a heatpump installed in my property, its a 2 bed semi detached bungalow which did have night storage heaters before I took them all out, so has no radiators or associated piping at all which is why I am leaning towards getting an A2A system rather than an A2W as don't really want any radiators installed and would like the added benefit of cooling that an A2A system offers.

Have had a few companies come round and they are all trying to push me into getting an A2W system with radiators for some reason, am guessing they make more money out of installing this rather than an A2A.

Have also had one say they can install an A2W system but with vents rather than radiators but it won't be cheap, still awaiting back a quote from them, and will still need to sort something out about getting cooling where as the A2A system will all be done off that.

I understand that with an A2A I will have no hot water but you can get heatpump cylinders now which could be a good option for me?

Is there any companies around near me that anyone knows of (South of Bristol area) that could help me out?

Hi, removed my headlights as they were cloudy so could use a restoration kit on them which worked a treat. I had to remove the front bumper for this which I have done before. Everything all back together but the bonnet just will not shut, have tried slamming it and pushing down the latch inbetween the mechanism which freely moves and greased it up but still it wont catch, what could be causing this?

I need a fair bit of plastering done, and would like to prep the walls before hand to make it easier for the plasterer to do their work and maybe keep the cost down a bit.

What would the best product be to use to repair things like the pictures show?

And with the last picture what would be the best method to fill that in? Wood with plasterboard over the top?

Also have a fair few drill holes that also need filling. I was going to use something like Toupret Interior Filler, either the ready mixed stuff or powder and mix it up myself. Is this the right kind of thing or should I be using something else?
