Russian Anti-Putin artist Semyon Skrepetsky, 44, whose real name was Robert Kuzovkov was shot five times, including wounds to the head and chest, and died at the scene
Robert Kuzovkov, also known as Semyon Skrepetsky, had lived in Poland since 2021 after leaving Russia out of fear of political persecution. That fear stemmed from his artwork criticizing Putin. In one painting, Robert depicted Putin as an infant being held by Stalin, while a Russian flag appeared discarded in a bin.
Some have speculated that his death may have been the result of an operation ordered by Kadyrov, especially because three days earlier, on June 12, Russia Day, Robert protested outside the Russian embassy in Berlin, possibly displeasing Putin.
For now, Robert’s death remains surrounded by unanswered questions. He fled Russia because he feared political persecution, yet even in exile, he may not have been safe. Until there is a full and transparent investigation, his death will remain not only a tragedy, but a possible injustice. What do you think this case says about the safety of political dissidents living abroad?
