Windfall?

My plan was to work until 65 which is necessary to have a enough in my retirement accounts, which are currently about $1M split among mostly (but not exclusively) in 401k and traditional IRA. I just learned that I will likely be coming into about $400k net of taxes. I’m 58. Do I need to keep working or are there investment options that allow me stop working? Note that I live in a HCOL area and monthly expenses are around $10k

I think I blew it

I was hoping to retire by 62, but I don’t think I can. My spendy ways are coming home to roost. I’m 57.

Monthly expenses, about $13K
HCOL area bordering on VHCOL
Two kids through college fully paid for (no loans)
About $250k of equity in my home.

But only:
401k $230k
Trad IRA $660k
Roth IRA $20k
Brokerage $25k
Cash $30k

SS ranges from $2800 (62) to $5200 (70)

I’m a high earner and there might even be an IPO in my future with some good payouts in 2-3 years. So no matter how I crunch the numbers I am still pulling the wagon until 65 if I want to maintain my VHCOL life. Do you agree?

EDIT: I guess I should add I have been divorced since 2008 and did much of everything on my own and as such retirement planning was not considered until recently. Bought this house in 2022 after renting for 12 years after having to short sale my marital home in 2013. So it’s been a journey and thus my attachment to this house.

Sunroom or 3 season porch?

As the title says, I am contemplating adding either a three season porch or a sunroom onto my house. It would be on the smaller side, probably 8 x 10. I live in the north east of Massachusetts. I really want the feeling of being able to sit outside for longer than I can with just my patio. Has anyone ever added a three season porch and wished it had been better insulated against the weather? I was thinking of adding a propane fireplace and radiant flooring. It would not be just screens regardless of the build. I would definitely need windows. I feel like that’s edging towards a sunroom at that point… Thoughts? please help me decide!

Interior glass pocket door

I am building a three season porch off of my dining room and want to use a door like this to separate the two rooms. Has anyone done this? Any regrets?

RHPS

I think we should ask The Cabot to play the Rocky Horror Picture Show this weekend. I’ll bring the cards (for sorrow)

RIP Tim Curry

Do they know how to walk?

My 2.5 yr old (m) seems to have only two speeds. Run and run faster. Even when he’s following me around the house, he runs from room to room often trying to anticipate where I’m going and running in that direction. He never seems to just … walk.

In this photo, he no doubt landed on the couch after a running start.

Outside cafe

Where on the north shore would you go to sit outside on a Sunday and read the paper with a good coffee (perhaps a cappuccino) and a nice pastry?

Neck lift now, later, never

57.5 yrs old. I use retinol almost very night, sofwave annually, multi copper peptides, growth factors, strivectin neck cream and probably some other stuff. I can’t seem to keep ahead of the growing laxity. My thought was a neck lift at 62 but should I do it sooner ?
