Map of a mine for upcoming session

This is an active clay mine that the party has been hired to clear out of monsters. Deep in the sub level is a partially-unearthed stone sarcophagus, a tunnel that ended in a steep rock face with a crack running down the middle, and a couple recently-skeletized remains of miners hint at what might be waiting for the party as they make their way through.

I wonder if Jim watches Kentucky Ballistics.

I just started reading Twelve Months after finishing my re-read of the series, and where >!Bear shows Dresden that she carries around a 4-bore rifle,!< it’s described as a single-shot, lever-operated falling block rifle. Well, that exact rifle has been a staple on the YouTube channel Kentucky Ballistics since April 2023. It hasn’t been featured anywhere else. Other YouTube channels have featured 4-bore rifles, but not the falling block one. Those are break-action, hammer fired ones.

Also, when Harry got the .500 S&W magnum in the previous books, that was also a huge staple on KB for a very long time. I’m basically convinced that Jim watches Kentucky Ballistics at this point.

If you wanted to see what Bear’s 4-bore looks like in action, this playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLa7R2iFDUEvh3lSxf49NesrnEbTML9\_jI&si=KO1QXmJoEwisNncD is a good place to do research.

[TOMT][D&D Adventure] from 3e or 3.5e, a beginner adventure that featured a goblin cave

I have been trying hard to remember the first time I DMd for my friend group in 2004-2005 or so. I ran a short, pre-published adventure, I am about 75% sure that it was not a stand-alone adventure but it was in the back of one a rulebook as a sample premade adventure. It had a goblin cave that had an outcropping above the entrance with a couple goblins keeping watch. You could get to the outcropping from inside the cave. There was a female goblin shaman with a little room with leather-bound books that used dried strips of meat as bookmarks. I think there was a town included in the adventure where you got the reason to go to the cave.

This is a long shot but I’ve come up dry and I need help.

Need advice for player backstory incorporation

Good morning DMs,
I am starting a new 5e game with several newbies and one player has a very interesting backstory that I like and would not ask him to change it but I’m struggling with coming up with an idea to involve his idea without making it integrated into the main story.

I told my players to come up with some reason to be travelling on a certain road to a certain city. My player, who chose the Kalashtar race and Artificer class, has a lost/abandoned child background with the Urchin origin. He was mistreated a lot as a child and was taken in by a craftsman from whom he learned his Artificer skills. He said his motivation for travelling to this town is that he heard some rumors of mistreatment of children there and wants to go investigate since that is something important to him. I don’t mind this, and other events will happen that will keep the players on their toes dealing with, but I have been trying to come up with an idea of how to frame this. I have come up with many garbage ideas and nothing is yet standing out so I am asking if any of you have anything. Ideally it would be something that can be resolved easily without much in the way of questing involved.

My best idea so far is that he heard from some urchins travelling away from that city that other urchins and beggar kids have gone missing and they don’t want to get snatched next so they skedaddled. But when he gets there he finds out that some kindly noble lady who is infertile has been adopting them and giving them education, and the scared kid was just misinformed. Not a great idea but if nothing else I can just roll with it.

Another big tech company using LotR names

General Atomics calls their laser experiment lab Galadriel. The “ General Atomics Laboratory for Developing Rep-rated Instrumentation and Experiments with Lasers”. This is ridiculous.

The spotter scope hunting knife from Germany

I recently acquired this unique hunting knife. I have never seen anything like it. The blade says “DECORA-SOLINGEN” and “D.B.G.M.”
The handle is plastic. In the base is a 2X magnifying scope.

Do not let 120 days go by without initiating a claim against the charge

After a long wait time I talked to a claims manager at my bank and they told me that Visa guidelines prevents them from even starting any claims that are older than 120 days. Visa will automatically deny it. Apparently all the banks follow these guidelines and Mastercard is the same way. I bet Stuart k owe this too and that’s why they string you along until the 120 days have passed then your order disappears from their tracking.

Learn from my loss. Don’t let 120 days go by.

I’m so mad right now.

Email is offline and order not found

I put an order in last September, the status changed to “paint is being made” within a few days and stayed there for several weeks. I messaged them asking for an update on it and got a weird response from someone called “Akanksha” saying they had taken over my order personally and it was now being prioritized with the studio team. Sounded like nonsense, but backlog whatever maybe it would come eventually. Well I heard nothing new for months. Status still said paint was being made.

I emailed them again in January but never got any response. I got busy with life and kind of set it aside for a while but I was curious today and tried to pull up the order status and it said “can not find order.” I double-checked the order number and my email and sure enough, they “can not find order.”

So I sent an email to hello@culturehustlesupport.com, the email listed on their website, and got a response saying that my message was undeliverable because the email could not be found.

This company is basically garbage from what I can tell. I called my bank to submit a fraud claim.
If they had legitimate supply issues or something and communicated with me about it I wouldn’t be so upset. I would be annoyed but shit happens and my hobby can wait for the paint.

In the meantime I bought some Musou Black off Amazon and it is very nice, utterly flat black. Now I need to find a highly reflective white alternative.

I got the new Oknife LK (LightKnife, presumably) and have been carrying it the last couple of days in place of my main knife and flashlight.

It’s… interesting. I do feel like Oknifelight missed the mark a bit with this one but they had a great idea. The knife blade is cool and sharp and very slicey, but not the easiest shape to sharpen when needed. Also, because a decent chunk of the handle is occupied by LED and accompanying bits, the blade is decently shorter than the grip, which is somewhat odd feeling.

The light itself is, well, strange. First, it charges from an unprotected usb-c port on the bottom, which will potentially sit in the bottom of your pocket. The basic white light has low and high modes changed by a long press, and a turbo mode activated by double-tapping when the light is on, and a flashing mode activated by triple-tapping when the light is on. That part isn’t so strange. The button can lock by holding it down when off until it blinks at you 3 times, and then unlocks again by holding it down until it turns on. When unlocked the light turns on and off with a single press.

The really useless part is the decorative RGB led, which encircles the main light led. It has a couple of modes. By triple-tapping the button it turns on in a cyclic RGB mode, like a gamer girl’s cat-ear headset LED. If you hold the button for a long press when on in this mode, it switches to a spinning and cycling RGB decoration. If you hold the button for a long press again, it will switch to a white light. Not the other white light, but the RGB led is now set to white. Holding the button a long press again returns it to the stationary cyclic RGB mode again. If you triple-tap it while the RGB is on, it switches to a blinking red mode. If you double-tap it while the RGB is on, it switches to just red. I may even be forgetting some things, as the instruction strip kept unfolding more sections until it was longer than a CVS receipt.

Other than the red, both flashing and static, the rgb led seems useless. And there are no magnets on the knife so you can’t stick it somewhere to act as an EDC twitch streamer setup.

Overall it feels like a great idea that had a flawed execution. The blade deploys a bit awkwardly with a very small nub where a proper flipper should be, the clip is in a tip-down orientation, and the light controls are not placed well for easy use. I don’t think this will be replacing my regular knife and light in the long run.
